NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Race 7 of 25 – Charlotte Motor Speedway
CELEBRATING 100: When 30 year-old Timothy Peters straps behind the wheel of the No. 17 Red Horse Racing Toyota Tundra at NASCAR’s home track Charlotte Motor Speedway, he will be doing so for the 100th time. Peters is slated to make is 100th Truck Series start this weekend marking a career-mile stone for the Danville, Virginia native.
Peters racing career goes back as far as he can remember. 2009 proved to be Peters’ breakout year in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series as he earned his first pole win at Nashville (Tenn.) Superspeedway and his first career Truck Series win at his home track Martinsville (Va.) Speedway.
“Making my 100th Truck Series start at Charlotte Motor Speedway is a huge career milestone for me,” said Peters. “I’m really thankful to have been able to make 100 starts most drivers never get to make one. This is a testament to all of the hard work put in by my family and friends many who will be at the race this weekend. I have to thank Tom DeLoach for believing in me and giving me a home for the past three years. We are very excited this season to have Butch Hylton and a great group of guys working on the No. 17 Toyota Tundra. I can’t think of a better place to make my 100th start.”
SUPPORT STAFF: This weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway proud Red Horse Racing sponsor partner, APEX Tool Group will host 200 guests in a hospitality chalet outside the race track. APEX Tool Group whose brands include GearWrench, Crescent, Armstrong, Lufkin, Wiss and many more will host distributors, buyers and guests from around the North and South Carolina region. Their support will be evident on and off the track as Peters carries the Crescent tools logo on the rocker panel of the No. 17 truck to the roar of over 200 cheering APEX Tool Group support team members who will be routing him on.
CHASSIS HISTORY: The No. 17 team will utilize chassis No. 001 this weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Chassis No. 001 is a brand-new truck that has yet to see any on-track activity.
PREVIOUS RACE RECAP: Last weekend at Dover International Speedway Peters and the No. 17 team had a top-10 run going until the final lap when another competitor made it three-wide going into turn one. The move took the air off the No. 17 truck which resulted in a spin. Peters took a hard hit to the inside wall and was unable to drive the truck back to cross the start finish line. The crash resulted in a 17th-place finish for the Red Horse Racing team.
VISIT PIT: Red Horse Racing owners Tom DeLoach and Jeff Hammond also have a secondary company attached to the Truck Series team. PIT (Performance Instruction and Training) school is a state of the art pit stop training facility that is used by many of NASCAR’s premier teams including the Red Horse Racing pit crew. What would it mean to you to win at Charlotte Motor Speedway?
“It would mean everything to me. I really would like to get a win at a 1.5-mile track. That is the only style track I really have on my racing resume to conquer. I know it would be a very important win for Red Horse Racing to not only get a win at home, but to prove how well rounded of a team we have and how strong of competitors we are.”
What are the challenges faced at Charlotte?
“This is the most temperamental track that we go to throughout the entire year. Since we practice during the day and race at night it is very difficult to get a good read on your truck and what kind of adjustments you need to make, there is a lot of anticipatory changes you have to build in. The track was repaved a few years back and it has allowed the drivers to be able to run the high or the low groove if they have a good enough truck. It’s a very exciting race and one of my favorites all year. We always draw a great crowd since it is all-star weekend. It really doesn’t get any better than that.”
