Racing at Texas is Special for David Starr

David Starr has spent the last fourteen seasons racing in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Over those years the Lone Star native has dreamed of visiting victory lane at the Texas Motor Speedway, a place he calls home. David has accumulated 274 career starts including 25 at Texas where his dream still eludes him.

Living a short distance from the track, Starr boasts a huge fan base in his home state. He has a very engaged Texas-based sponsor in Zachry and this weekend another Texas organization; The Boot Campaign will join the SS Green Light Racing team bringing added enthusiasm to the popular veteran driver when he takes the green flag on Friday night in the Winstar World Casino 400k.

“Coming back to Texas is always fun, its my home-track. The facilities are awesome and it’s just a great place to race,” the enthusiastic Starr said. “The fans are great here in Texas, I think some of the biggest crowds we’ve ever had in the Truck Series have come at Texas.”

“I’m always excited to race in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series each week, but after just a so-so race last week at Kansas we are certainly looking forward to redeem ourselves as a team and perform better,” Starr continued. “I’m glad to be back home because it’s going to be an exciting race for the fans. If we can have it our way, we’re going to have the Zachry Toyota up front. I’m excited about it.”

“It’s real cool to have the Boot Campaign come on board with us for their first race. It’s exciting to have a military presence on the Zachry truck. I’m going to be wearing my boots across the stage before the race to support the Boot Campaign and our military forces. I think Brendan Gaughan who is a good friend and a great competitor is going to wear a pair of boots along with me across the stage. We are thrilled to be part of an organization that makes such a commitment to our returning solders.”

“With every pair of boots sold a portion goes to help a wounded warrior. It’s just a great charity; it’s an honor to be part of it along with everyone at SS Green Light Racing. It’s pretty cool and a big honor for all of us.”

“I used to live five minutes from the race track, I could see the grandstands from my deck but we moved a little while back and now I’m about a half an hour away,” he continued. “I’m proud to say that Texas is my home track. My family has run a driving school there since day one and Eddie Gossage and Ken Nelson have been great friends. A lot of my family, people that I have driven for in the past and people who have given me opportunities will be in the stands. It’s a special place to come race.”

“If we can ever get back to victory lane, there would be no better place to do it than the Texas Motor Speedway.”

David has 25 starts at the Texas Motor Speedway, the most of any track over his 14-year NCWTS career. David has seven top-fives and eleven top-tens including a fifteenth place finish last year in the SS Green Light Racing #81. He has with an average start of 13.4 and an average finish of 13.1.
