No. 33 Rheem Chevrolet News and Notes

First time at Homestead… Cale Gale will make his first start at Homestead-Miami (Fla.) Speedway on Friday, Nov. 16. The rookie contender has attended races at the mile-and-a-half oval in Homestead, Fla., but has never competed at the speedway.

Racing with Rheem’s traditional red & black… The No. 33 Rheem Chevrolet driven by Cale Gale will sport its traditional red and black paint scheme for this weekend’s 201-mile race at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Top-10 finish in Phoenix… Cale Gale and the No. 33 Rheem Chevrolet team came home in the seventh position at Phoenix International Raceway last Friday night. In Gale’s first start at the one-mile speedway, the rookie contender qualified fourth and maintained his position inside the top five throughout the first half of the race. Racing hard for position, Gale spun off turn four on lap 73, but recovered from the mishap to secure his seventh top-10 finish of the 2012 season. As the highest finishing rookie in the 150-lap event, Gale was named the Sunoco Rookie of the Race.

Gearing up for the off-season… While many drivers enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday with their families, Cale Gale will already be back at a race track. The week following the NCWTS season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Gale will be at Concord (N.C.) Motorsports Park with Eddie Sharp Racing (ESR) development driver Brandon Jones. Gale worked closely with 15-year-old Jones as the driver began his career, and will once again call the shots as Jones’ crew chief in the Pro All Star Series’ (PASS) Thanksgiving Classic / Mason-Dixon Meltdown on Saturday, Nov. 24.

Battling for points… With the 2012 season coming to an end, Cale Gale continues to be ranked inside the top 15 in both the championship driver and owner point standings. Gale, who has scored seven top-10 finishes this season, is ranked 12th in driver points and 14th in owner points. With just one event remaining, Gale continues to be ranked second in the Sunoco Rookie of the Year standings.

From the Driver’s Seat

Cale Gale Quotes… On getting ready for Homestead-Miami Speedway: “I’m not really sure what to expect this weekend with our No. 33 Rheem Chevrolet. I’ve never raced at Homestead-Miami Speedway, so it will be a whole new experience for me. I’ve talked to a couple guys to get their feedback and learn what I can. There’s only one two-hour practice and it’s a one-day show, so I need to learn quickly. There’s progressive banking, which means that we’ll be able to run all over the race track and there should be a lot of side-by-side racing. We’re taking the same truck that we ran at Texas Motor Speedway. It’s a really good truck for us; it’s been fast everywhere we’ve taken it, and I’m looking forward to racing it again this weekend.”

Looking back on his rookie campaign: “Racing the full NCWTS schedule this year in the No. 33 Rheem Chevrolet for Eddie Sharp Racing has been a dream come true. I want to thank my sponsor, Rheem, for all their support this year; I never would have had this opportunity without their backing. My ESR team has worked hard all season and has given me great trucks week after week, so I would like to thank them for their hard work. I’ve had a lot of fun over the last 21 races and I’m looking forward to getting to Homestead-Miami Speedway this weekend to finish out the season strong with our No. 33 Rheem Chevrolet.”

From the Pit Box

Jerry Baxter Quotes… On racing at Homestead-Miami Speedway: “We’re excited to get to Homestead-Miami Speedway with the No. 33 Rheem Chevrolet. The track surface there is very hard on tires, so we will need to focus on tire management throughout the day on Friday. Your first lap of the day is almost always your fastest lap of the day at tracks that wear out the tires. With Cale, who has never raced at this track before, we need to be careful not to chase the leaderboard. Cale needs to get comfortable on the track and learn his line, and once he does that we’ll put new tires on the truck and see what we run. Homestead-Miami Speedway is a really wide track with a lot of room for racing. There are a lot of lines that a driver can use to get around it; we just need to figure out which line Cale likes best for the No. 33 Rheem Chevrolet.”
