Race with Insulin: The No.1 team will sport a different paint scheme this weekend with a predominately orange Chevrolet SS with touches of blue in support of “Race with Insulin”. In addition to this special paint scheme on McMurray`s car, teammate Juan Pablo Montoya and his No.42 Target Chevrolet SS will sport blue rims to help with the launch of the Race with Insulin™ Unites campaign. The blue rims are representation of the blue circle, which is the International Diabetes Federation’s (IDF) global symbol for diabetes.  According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately 26 million people are currently living with diabetes in the United States.

The Numbers at Martinsville Speedway: From 2008-2012, a typical Martinsville Speedway race had 21.1 lead changes, 13.2 cautions for 77.7 laps, and an average green-flag run of 29.9 laps.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW FOR MARTINSVILLE SPEEDWAY

Jamie McMurray and No. 1 Race With Insulin Team

Auto Club Recap: From the drop of the green flag he No. 1 team quickly moved up into the top-10 from the 17th starting spot.  As the track temperature continued to rise, the car experienced a loose-handling condition for much of the second half of the race.  Following a caution with just 14 laps remaining, the team chose not to pit for new tires and looked to gain track-position to make a final run to the finish.  The No. 1 would cross the finish line in the 19th-position.

McMurray at Martinsville Speedway: McMurray will make his 21st start this weekend at Martinsville Speedway.  McMurray has accumulated one pole, 10-top-10 finishes and one top-five.  He has an average starting position of 15.3 and an average finishing position of 17.  McMurray’s best finish at the track came in the fall race of 2004, when he came to the checkered in second.

Short Track Stats: McMurray has 61 career NSCS starts on short tracks.  He has accumulated one pole, four top-five and 22 top-10 finishes leading 157 laps. He has an average starting position of 18.6 and average finish of 18.9

Diabetes care:  Novo Nordisk, who is one of the world’s leading companies in diabetes care, manufactures and markets pharmaceutical products and services, will be the primary sponsor this week for the No.1 team. Novo Nordisk made Fortune magazines “top 100 best companies to work for” in 2013.

Juan Pablo Montoya and No. 42 Target Team

Auto Club Rewind:  The fifth race of the 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) season took place at Auto Club Speedway in California over the weekend. Team Target started the 200-lap race from the 12th position and was working on getting the handling under control when the crew received news that there was a transmission issue. Juan Pablo Montoya was eventually forced to take the Target Chevy SS back to the garage for repairs and finish out the day in the 38th position.

Montoya at Martinsville: Montoya will make his 12th at Martinsville Speedway this weekend.  In his NSCS career Montoya has earned two top-five finishes, three top-10 finishes and has led 46 laps at the track.  Montoya has zero DNF’s (did not finish) and has completed 5,918  of 6,034 laps (98.1%).  Montoya’s highest starting position is fifth in the 2010 fall race and his highest finish is third in the 2009 fall race.

Pass With Flying Colors: Over the course of the last 11 races at Martinsville, Montoya has made 873 green-flag passes. This ranks him second only to Dale Earnhardt Jr. out of all active drivers.

Short Track Stats: In his NSCS career, Montoya has competed in 37 short-track races.  In those events, he has accumulated one pole, two top-five finishes, nine top-10 finishes and has led 103 laps.  Montoya has completed 98% of all laps run on short-tracks.  He has an average starting position of 19.2 and an average finishing position of 18.4.
