Tracy Hines Tackles a Holiday Weekend Tripleheader

NEW CASTLE, Ind.—July 2, 2014—  The Fourth of July Weekend is comprised of three days and Tracy Hines will spend all three at the racetrack. That’s the way the veteran driver likes it. He’ll compete with the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series in Indiana, and the Honda USAC National Midget Series in Wisconsin.

Hines kicks off the three-race stretch on Friday, July 4, at Lincoln Park Speedway in Putnamville, Indiana, with the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series, aboard The Carolina Nut Company DRC. He then heads north to Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, for the 33rd Pepsi Nationals, which is co-sanctioned by the Honda USAC National Midget Series, Lucas Oil POWRi National Midget Series and Zimbrick Chevrolet of Sun Prairie/Mid-State Equipment Badger Midget Series.

The veteran driver has made one start at the five-sixteenths-mile Lincoln Park Speedway in 2014, with that coming during Indiana Midget Week last month. Hines crossed the line second, after also qualifying second-fastest of the 44 entries. Last season, Hines raced twice at Lincoln Park Speedway with the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series. He finished eighth on the Fourth of July and was 15th during Indiana Sprintweek. In his career at the oval located in South Central Indiana, Hines has two career wins, both with the Honda USAC National Midget Series, in 1997 and 2001.

“After the rainout last weekend, we’re itching to get back to the track,” said Hines. “Racing at Putnamville (Lincoln Park Speedway) this week helps us gear up for the Sprintweek show later in the month. We were strong there last month during the Midget Week show and have always gotten around there pretty good.”

Hines has won the Pepsi Nationals at Angell Park Speedway three times in his career. He has made one start at the track thus far this season. Hines came home eighth with the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series on June 22. The native of New Castle, Indiana, raced twice at the third-mile last season with the Honda USAC National Midget Series, finishing second and third. Hines has also won at Angell Park Speedway in the Fireman Nationals.

“Angell Park (Speedway) was challenging when we raced the sprint car there a few weeks ago,” Hines said, who pilots the Parker Machinery/Powered by Toyota Spike. “That is a midget track first and foremost, and usually there is plenty of room to race in those cars. I’ve run good at both the summer event (Pepsi Nationals) and the Fireman’s Nationals in the fall in the past. We had a strong overall (Indiana) Midget Week and look to pick up where we left off and see if we can make up some points on the leader in the season standings.”

Last weekend, Hines was scheduled to compete with the Traxxas USAC Silver Crown Series at Memphis International Raceway, but that event was rained out. Track and series officials are looking at the possibility of rescheduling later this season.

Heading into competition this week, Hines is second in points with the Honda USAC National Midget Series Dirt Championship and sixth with the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series.
