Saturday, July 23, 2016

Ford Qualifying Results:
5th – Brad Keselowski
14th – Joey Logano
16th – Ricky Stenhouse Jr.
17th – Ryan Blaney
20th – Trevor Bayne
22nd – Chris Buescher
29th – Aric Almirola
32nd – Brian Scott
33rd – Landon Cassill
40th – Patrick Carpentier

BRAD KESELOWSKI – No. 2 Miller Lite Ford Fusion – “A top five on a hot day like today isn’t too shabby, but of course we want the pole and we want to win the race. That’s the most important part is winning the race, so we can win the race from fifth.” YOUR THOUGHTS ON HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT THE RACE TOMORROW? “It’s gonna be hot, but it will be the same for everybody. I’m glad it’s a late afternoon race. That will be nice, but it’s Indy and it’s summer, so it’s hot and that’s racing.” WERE YOU GUYS LOOKING UP TO THE SKY A LOT TRACKING THE SUN AND THE CLOUDS? “Yeah, I think everybody was because a big track like this is really affected a lot by the clouds, so it’s just natural.”

TREVOR BAYNE – No. 6 AdvoCare Ford Fusion – “We were just way too tight, honestly. We had too tight of a balance and it got tighter the second run and we weren’t able to get the speed out of it that we needed to continue on. We’ll just lick our wounds here in 20th and hopefully do some good stuff with fuel mileage and get some track position and see what we can do.”

JOEY LOGANO – No. 22 Shell/Pennzoil Ford Fusion – “We were loose on the first run and forced us to run a second time to get through the first round, and then to see us finish 14th in the second round is a decent improvement considering where we were the first round and having an extra run on our tires. That really killed us having to make that extra run in the first round.”

RICKY STENHOUSE JR. – No. 17 Sunny D Ford Fusion – “Our Sunny D Ford was really fast in the first round. I felt really good all three corners up until the last one in the second round, and we didn’t miss that third round by a lot. Going back, I wish I would have waited an extra car length before I got back to the gas so that I could have got off of turn four better, and I think we would have made it to the next round no problem. This is a big difference from where we were last year, we qualified 30th, so we’re ahead of the game as far as that goes. It was a big pickup from yesterday. Things we were looking at the for the race tomorrow we changed for qualifying and it seemed like it was the right direction, so we’ve got some positive thoughts going into tomorrow.”

RYAN BLANEY – No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Fusion – “We’re better than where we were last year (30th). I don’t think we made the right adjustments for the second round. We worked on what was wrong in the first round and missed it a little bit. It’s something to learn and gives us good input for tomorrow. We should be fine. That’s not a bad place to start. I thought our race stuff was pretty good and hopefully we’ll hit it right, sit down and make some changes tonight and see where that puts us.”
