RCR NXS Post Race Report – U.S. Cellular 250

Sam Hornish Jr. Captures Sixth-Place Result at Iowa Speedway in Richard Childress Racing Debut

“If this was only a 225-lap race, we would have had ourselves a top-three finish tonight. The right-front tire started to come apart on us in the last 15 laps of the race and dropped us from third back to sixth-place. We didn’t have quite the speed that we needed. I feel like the way it rained yesterday, we didn’t get enough runs during practice to figure out what we needed to. I’m really impressed with this Rheem team, and I’m honored to be given this opportunity with Richard Childress Racing. I have a couple more races this year with these guys, and we’ll keep our heads up and keep digging. We just weren’t where we needed to be tonight.” – Sam Hornish Jr.

Dillon Contends for the Win, Finishes Second in US Cellular 250 at Iowa Speedway

“Man, this one stings. We gave it everything we could there at the end, but just didn’t have enough to hold on. I’m grateful for this opportunity to race, I’m grateful for all the hard work that was put into this car, but, man, I really wanted to win this thing. I thought our Bass Pro Shops Chevy was fast enough, and it handled pretty well throughout the race. If you look at our stats at the end of the year, two second-place finishes at Iowa Speedway looks pretty good, but it definitely stings when you know you had a car good enough to win. Our pit stops were awesome – we gained the lead on our last pit stop – and our restarts were great. We’re close to winning one. I think it will happen soon.” – Ty Dillon

Brandon Jones Finishes 16th at Iowa Speedway, Looking Forward to Watkins Glen

“It was just a rough day all around for the M-D Building Products/Menards team. We fought a lot of different things during the race. We started out pretty tight and then went to the other side of the spectrum and were too free there at the end of the race. Crew chief Mike Hillman Jr. and the entire M-D Building Products/Menards team kept working on it all night long. We had great pit stops all night, too. We just couldn’t get the track position we needed. At the end of the race we were running top-five and top-10 lap times, we just never got that track position. I am ready to go road course racing next weekend at Watkins Glen and hopefully we can come away with a solid day.”

The U.S. Cellular Team Battles to 11th-Place Finish at Iowa Speedway

“This U.S. Cellular team is the definition of perseverance. We don’t quit. We had a great performance on pit road, the boys worked really hard. Shane Wilson (crew chief) made great calls to improve our U.S. Cellular Chevrolet. We were really good on restarts, and that saved us when we got the lucky dog. We caught back-to-back cautions which allowed Shane to adjust on our car. Compile that with the effort on restarts, and we were able to drive the Chevy inside the top 10. I have always worked hard on my restarts throughout my career and tonight it paid off. It got us back to a good finish for U.S. Cellular, and almost a top-10. We will continue to work hard and move onto road course racing next week.” – Brendan Gaughan
