Martinsville Speedway: “It is a place where you can do everything right and on the last restart get crashed,” Allmendinger said. “It’s a tough place to get around for 500 laps. Even if you do everything right, it’s a challenging track to have everything go right.”

Same theory: “I love that place and I look forward to going there with our No. 47 Kroger/Clorox Chevrolet SS,” Allmendinger said. “It’s not a road course, but it’s kind of the same theory. You use the brakes how you want. You can lift early. You can drive it in the corner harder. You can do different things. It’s a fun place. It’s a cool little racetrack to watch a race. I remember the first time I rolled into Martinsville when I started driving in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, I was like ‘What is this place?”

Braking: “You use a lot of braking there and you use a lot of techniques to get the car through the corner,” Allmendinger said. “It’s just a place I get around pretty good. The No. 47 guys give me good cars there every time.”

Race circled: “I finished second there earlier this year,” Allmendinger said. “I feel like if we can go there and do the same things, we will have a good chance to have a great run and maybe win the race.”

Grandfather clock: “I had to laugh because my first year with the team I was living just in a two-bedroom apartment on a third floor and we were leading the race,” Allmendinger said. “And I was like, ‘Yep that’s about right. I’m going to win this race and a Grandfather clock. How am I going to this thing up my stairs?’ I’m like three stories up in an apartment. Of course, I would have taken it. I’d like to win one this weekend.”

Keep streak alive: “We have two top-10s in a row and we’ve got our sights set on Martinsville where we finished second earlier this year with the same car,” crew chief Randall Burnett said. “We have some new ideas for that. Martinsville is historically one of AJ’s good tracks. He does a really great job and manages his brakes well. At road course racing, he’s really good with his brakes and obviously that’s critical at Martinsville too.”

Pumped up about this race: “We like going there because we enjoy the short track races,” Burnett said. “I think everybody here is pumped up about going to that race. We’re also excited about how our program has been the last few weeks. Going forward, we are trying to finish out the season strong. We’re racing for the best place we can get in the points.”

Activation: “Leading up to racing the No. 47 Kroger/Clorox Chevy, we’re doing a big activation with the BUSH’S Beans Chili Cook-off,” Allmendinger said. “Stop by to see me in the midway at the competition on Sunday morning with our five finalist. They are facing off for a grand prize trip to Homestead-Miami.”
