It’s time for me to get back to covering NASCAR as I have for the past 10 years. As an editor at www.speedwaymedia.com I spend a lot of time behind the scene trying to bring everyone quality coverage on all sorts of motorsports.

More is not enough when it comes to the safety of drivers. The thought is there, the effort is there, but it is just not enough.

Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) announces today that David Ragan will fill in for Kyle Busch behind the wheel of the No. 18 M&Ms Crispy Toyota in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series beginning with this weekend’s race at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Last weekend at Daytona International Speedway, Chevrolet’s Jeff Gordon piloted his Chevy SS to the pole position and led the field to the green flag. This week at Atlanta Motor Speedway (AMS) another Chevrolet SS will lead the field - a white Chevrolet SS pace car.

“Beginning with our two superspeedway motorsports entertainment facilities, Daytona International Speedway and Talladega Superspeedway, ISC is developing a significant plan for the installation of additional impact-absorbing technologies including but not limited to SAFER barriers (Steel and Foam Energy Reduction). We will utilize all available tools to ensure the safety of the drivers and our fans. It will remain our top priority.

Fresh off an historic sweep of Speedweeks at Daytona International Speedway, Ford heads to Atlanta Motor Speedway for this weekend’s Folds of Honor QuickTrip 500. Here is a look at how the Blue Oval has done at the 1.5-mile facility.

Joey Logano followed up his career-year of 2014 with a stirring win in the Daytona 500, becoming the second youngest driver to win the Great American Race at 24 years old.

Gordon’s 85th career Cup victory occurred at the Georgia track on Sept. 6, 2011. That win moved the No. 24 Chevrolet SS driver into sole possession of third all-time in career Sprint Cup victories.

“Well we need to keep the momentum from Daytona going, first of all. I like Atlanta. We nearly had the thing won a few years ago and were in decent shape there last year.

“This is the first time I will be racing a Cup car in the spring at Atlanta. I had the opportunity to race there once before with the Wood Brothers back in 2012, and we were able to run pretty well.
