NASCAR has penalized drivers Marcos Ambrose and Casey Mears for their involvement in a post-race altercation in the garage area following last Saturday night’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Richmond International Raceway.

Gordon led 173 of 400 laps at Richmond, but his quest for his first win of the season fell short. He finished second behind Joey Logano after a spirited four-car battle for the win during the final laps. Gordons leads the Sprint Cup points standings, five ahead of Matt Kenseth.

Richard Childress began his driving career at Talladega Superspeedway in 1969 and leads team owners for the most all-time victories at the storied Alabama track with 12 wins. Dale Earnhardt visited Victory Lane nine times, while Kevin Harvick and Clint Bowyer swept the 2010 events at the 2.66-mile superspeedway.

“I’m really looking forward to Talladega this weekend. Having a fast car, staying up front and having good pit stops is what it will take to be there at the end and to put yourself in contention for a win. Nobody ever knows what’s going to happen at Talladega, we’ll have to wait and see.”

“After finishing third there last fall, I am really looking forward to this weekend. I learned a lot and would love to have a redo so hopefully we can get our Zest Ford in the same position with one lap remaining. After the past couple of weeks, we need a strong finish this weekend.”
