Harvick ranks ninth in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver championship point standings, trailing point leader Greg Biffle by 72 points with two races remaining until the Chase for the Sprint Cup. Menard ranks 15th, 59 markers outside of the final Chase position, while Burton ranks 20th, 160 points out.

There were a bunch of happy campers in the Wood Brothers pit area after Trevor Bayne drove the No. 21 Good Sam/Camping World Ford Fusion to a 16th-place finish in Sunday’s AdvoCare 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Team Chevy driver Jeff Gordon gave it all he had for the victory in Sunday night's Advocare 500, but second-guessed a last lap move that possibly could have given him and the No. 24 DuPont race team a second win in the NASCAR Sprint Cup series in 2012. The win would have put him in great position to make the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, which begins in two weeks. Gordon had to settle for the runner-up spot, but still has one more shot to make the Chase with a win next week at Richmond International Raceway.

Denny Hamlin held off a charging Jeff Gordon on the final corner to win the AdvoCare 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race Sunday at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Camry driver Denny Hamlin earned his fourth victory of the season in Sunday night's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) race at the 1.54-mile Atlanta Motor Speedway and clinched his position in the 'Chase for the Sprint Cup,' which will begin at Chicagoland Speedway in two weeks.

One year ago today Carl Edwards had firm control of his Sprint Cup Series title hopes. He was the favorite heading into the Chase, having led the point standings for much of the year and performing at a level of consistency that hadn’t been matched.

Should Jeff Gordon fail to make the Chase after next weekend’s race at Richmond he might look back to one lap during the 2012 season. Not the many bad weeks he had to start the year, not the hard fought yet mediocre finishes, but one lap in Atlanta.

Denny Hamlin held off Jeff Gordon on Sunday and won the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series AdvoCare 500 Atlanta Motor Speedway. This was Hamlin’s fourth win of the season, the most of any driver thus far and places himself in position to top the standings when the 12-driver Chase starts after next weekend's race at Richmond.

Didn’t qualify very well and after practicing didn’t think we were going be well but once again the 2 crew stepped up and gave me a great racecar and drove ‘er up towards about fifth and that was kind of where we leveled off and that restart was able to get up third. But just a solid night here at Atlanta and proud of the effort. Got some good consistency and some great cars and it feels good to be locked into the Chase, too.”
