The NASCAR Cup Series playoffs kick off this weekend at Darlington Raceway with five Ford drivers eligible to compete for this year’s championship.

Michael McDowell is set to head back to the Darlington (S.C.) Raceway this weekend for the NASCAR Cup Series final visit to the track this season.

History at Darlington: In 14 starts at the 1.33-mile egg-shaped oval, Almirola has earned two top-10 finishes, which came in back-to-back starts in 2020. Almirola finished 11th at Darlington earlier this year after running in and around the top-10 for the majority of the race.

On its own, the 1.366 mile egg-shaped oval at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway is a daunting challenge for NASCAR Cup Series competitors. But add in the fact that Sunday’s Cook Out Southern 500 is the first of the 10-race Cup Series playoffs and it’s a recipe for a long, grueling night this Labor Day weekend.

Entering the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series regular season finale at Daytona International Speedway under the playoff cutline; Austin Dillon scored his first win of 2022 in the rain delayed Coke Zero Sugar 400.

The Las Vegas native opted to hang at the back of the pack to avoid being collected in one of the inevitable multicar accidents that typically happen at Daytona, running just outside the top-30 in his No. 62 Beard Oil Distributing Chevrolet Camaro.

Erik Jones Post-Race Thoughts: “We had a really fast FOCUSfactor Chevy today and were able to run up front, lead laps and thought we had a really good shot at winning."

In what was definitely a wild afternoon at Daytona, Brad Keselowski and the Castrol team were denied a playoff berth after being the victim of an early crash.
