SpeedTour Returns to Watkins Glen, Celebrates Milestone Anniversary During Action-Packed Weekend

SVRA Celebrates the 10-Year Anniversary of Tony Parella at The Helm

SOUTHLAKE, Texas (September 8, 2022) – SpeedTour returns to Watkins Glen International for an action-packed weekend with the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA), the Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli and International GT. However, the excitement surrounding the weekend goes beyond the 400-plus cars that are expected to participate in the festivities, and extends to a special anniversary being celebrated by SVRA and the series’ CEO and President, Tony Parella.

Exactly 10 years ago today, on September 8, 2012, Parella signed the paperwork to purchase SVRA and begin his business venture in motorsports. Since then, Parella has taken sole ownership of the Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli, and added the exclusive financial rights for the U.S. market to Formula Regional Americas Championship Powered by Honda, Formula 4 United States Championship Powered by Honda and SCCA Pro Racing to his portfolio.

“I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished, but I feel like we’re just getting started,” said Parella.

A racer first and foremost, Parella’s passion for the sport is what drew him to become involved on a business level. After starting to race with SVRA in 2011, Parella was moved to act when he got to race on the same track where he attended his first racing event as a child—Watkins Glen International.

“Watkins Glen is where I attended my first race as a kid,” Parella continued. “I saw the Trans Am Series race here in 1969; I was 10 years old. The first time I got to race at The Glen was June 2011, and I found myself emotional being on the race track where my father took me so many years earlier. That experience made me realize the potential that SVRA had in racing at these tracks. I met with the owner at the time, Peter McLaughlin, and we worked out a deal.”

When Parella took ownership of SVRA in 2012, the series raced at three tracks—Watkins Glen International, Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and Sebring International Raceway.

In 2023, the series is slated to compete at 22 tracks across the country. Meanwhile, Parella Motorsports Holdings—SVRA’s parent company—will be involved in 25 events nationwide with its various race series.

“Ten years later, and I still feel like we’re just getting started—there’s endless potential and possibility. The best is yet to come,” Parella said with a smile.

SVRA joins the Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli and International GT for the Watkins Glen SpeedTour this weekend at Watkins Glen International. Spectator gates are open Thursday through Sunday, September 8-11, with tickets available at TheGlen.com. Several of Saturday and Sunday’s races will also be available for streaming on SpeedTour TV’s YouTube Channel (YouTube.com/SpeedTourTV).

About SpeedTour: SpeedTour hosts motorsports festivals encompassing America’s top road racing series at the most prestigious race tracks across the country. Competition ranges from the Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli (Trans Am), Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA), Formula Regional Americas powered by Honda (FR Americas), Formula 4 United States Championship powered by Honda (F4 U.S.), to International GT (IGT) and more. Trans Am, FR Americas and F4 U.S. are all sanctioned by SCCA Pro Racing, which is also related to the SpeedTour through a long-term agreement to the commercial rights to brand and operate SCCA Pro Racing. With 21 events on the 2022 schedule, SpeedTour will exceed 5,500 entries. Between racing, concerts and car shows, SpeedTour events often attract more than 25,000 spectators. Additional marketing and promotional opportunities for the SpeedTour are available through SpeedTour Quarterly, a quarterly magazine delivered in both print and digital formats and SpeedTour TV, a live streaming platform. Several marquee SpeedTour events will be live streamed at SpeedTour.TV.

Toyota Racing – Weekly Preview – 09.07.22

This Week in Motorsports: September 6-12, 2022

· NCS/NXS/NCWTS/ARCA: Kansas Speedway – September 9-11

PLANO, Texas (September 7, 2022) – It’s a big weekend at Kansas Speedway as four series compete at the track in three days.

NASCAR National Series – NCS | NXS | NCWTS

Hamlin plans to expand points cushion… Denny Hamlin moved up the Cup Series leaderboard with a runner-up finish in Darlington as the Virginia-native sits third overall. Hamlin has been consistently good at Kansas Speedway during his career, scoring Toyota’s first victory at the track and adding additional wins in 2019 and 2020.

Bell is 100… Christopher Bell will make his 100th career NASCAR Cup Series start at a special track this weekend. Bell earned his first Xfinity Series win at Kansas Speedway in 2017. Bell, who comes into this race in fourth place in points, won the pole, led 37 laps (of 267) and came home with a top-five finish in the spring at Kansas.

Jones good at Kansas… Brandon Jones will always have fond memories at Kansas Speedway as the Georgia-native scored his first career win at the track in 2019, before scoring another win there in 2020.

Smith, Griffith return… Sammy Smith and Derek Griffith are both back behind the wheel of Toyota GR Supras this weekend in Kansas. It begins two straight races for Smith aboard the No. 18 Toyota GR Supra for Joe Gibbs Racing as he will also run in Bristol, while Griffith will make his fourth of five scheduled starts for Sam Hunt Racing in the No. 26, before returning to the team in Talladega next month.

Smith is secure… Chandler Smith is breathing easy coming into Kansas Speedway as he has clinched his spot in the round of 8 with a dominating performance at Richmond Raceway – the last time the Truck Series was on track. Smith had a strong top-five finish at Kansas in the spring.

Looking to clinch… Several Toyota Truck Series drivers are looking to clinch their round of 8 spot this weekend and join Smith in the next round. John Hunter Nemechek, Ty Majeski, Stewart Friesen and Ben Rhodes are all more than 20 points to the good, with multi-time champion Matt Crafton and Christian Eckes looking to secure the final spots.

Double for Heim… Rookie of the Year leader, Corey Heim, will run double duty this weekend as he competes in Friday night’s Truck Series event for Kyle Busch Motorsports and Saturday’s ARCA Menards Series race for Venturini Motorsports in his final scheduled ARCA race of the season. Heim scored his first ARCA win – and Toyota’s 100th – in October 2020.

NASCAR Regional Series – ARCA

Smith closes in on two titles… With another top-five finish over the weekend, Sammy Smith is closing in on two ARCA titles, but his focus is back on the national ARCA tour this weekend. Smith has made 12 starts on the national ARCA tour this season – 11 of them ending in top-five finishes.

Flatbed Trucking: How it Works, Rates, Pros & Cons

Photo by Wolfgang Hasselmann on Unsplash

Flatbed trucks are designed to haul large, heavy equipment such as tractors, construction equipment, and farm machinery. These vehicles are also referred to as combination trucks or simply a flatbed. The term “flat” refers to the vehicle’s appearance rather than the actual weight of its load.

Flatbed trucking is a niche but growing segment of the trucking industry that provides opportunities for those who have an aptitude for heavy lifting and driving.

Flatbed drivers generally earn a higher hourly wage, have less job security, and face more physical hardship than other drivers, but they also enjoy better benefits, including health insurance coverage and 401(k) retirement plans.

Flatbed drivers may feel isolated from others in their profession because of the differences between the trucking industry and other industries that require frequent interaction with customers.

What is Flatbed Trucking And How Does it Work?

The vehicles can often be recognized by their large, flat beds that allow the cargo to be loaded from either side. The biggest difference between a standard trucker’s job and a flatbed driver’s job is the type of loads that are delivered.

Because these trucks carry heavier loads, the driver usually doesn’t deliver goods on a regular basis. In order to avoid excess wear and tear on the engine, most flatbed drivers follow routes with little or no traffic so they don’t need to stop as often.

This saves fuel consumption as well as money spent on gas. Flatbed drivers work primarily in dry freight (trucking materials without liquid cargo).

Because of this and the heavier loads to carry, it’s obviously important to hire a trusted flatbed trucking service like Nationwide United Auto Transport for your auto transportation needs.

Flatbed trucking requires a unique skill set that includes securing loads properly to ensure safety during transit. One area of interest within this field is non CDL hotshot trucking, which involves transporting smaller, time-sensitive loads without the need for a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Despite the lower barrier to entry, non CDL hotshot drivers must still adhere to strict safety and regulatory standards to avoid fines and ensure reliable delivery of their cargo.

How Flatbed Trucks are Different From Other Types of Trucks

Flatbed trucks are designed for hauling large and heavy loads. They have a different design from other types of trucks, so they tend to be more expensive.

Flatbed trucking is an industry that bridges the gap between small and large trucking companies.

It offers opportunities for those who want to work in a niche with limited competition and pay better wages than other truckers, but it also offers less security, fewer benefits and a higher risk of injury or death.

Flatbed Trucking Advantages for Auto Transport

1) Flatbed truckers have a high hourly wage.

2) They have less job security and face more physical hardship than other drivers.

3) They enjoy better benefits, including health insurance coverage and 401(k) retirement plans.

4) They are less isolated from others in their profession because of the differences between the trucking industry and other industries that require frequent interaction with customers.

Flatbed Trucking Disadvantages for Auto Transport

The high rate of success for flatbed drivers has led to a lot of demand for these types of vehicles. There are fewer available flatbed truck driving positions than there are applicants.

In order to meet the demand, trucking companies will pay higher rates for flatbed operators which can be very expensive in terms of fuel costs, maintenance, and labor needs.

This makes it difficult for smaller companies to compete with larger ones who have the resources needed to fund these types of operations. Companies may have to compromise on their product quality or service levels when they cannot afford flatbed trucks because they are too expensive.

Taking Care Of Your Car During The Colder Winter Months

Photo by Matt Collamer on Unsplash

Keeping your vehicle in the best condition possible is essential if you want to get the most years of use out of it as possible and avoid any mishaps on the road. While any car can malfunction and suffer a breakdown, you increase your risk of this happening to yours when you don’t take good care of it. During the winter, this can be even more difficult as there will be even more checks to make on your vehicle, and there are a few more risk factors when driving. Here are some important steps to take when looking after your car during the winter.

Keep Your Car Clean
Many people think about washing their car during the warm months when the roads aren’t muddy, and you can appreciate your car’s appearance much more with the sun beaming down on it. However, the reason you should clean your car isn’t purely for aesthetic reasons. You might want to avoid throwing water all over your car in the cold, partly because you’re worried it will just make it frosty, and being outside in the cold will be unpleasant for you. But it’s important to take care of your car this way, as it will help prevent rust and excessive ice build-up if done properly. This includes a full wash of your car to remove dirt and grime and to finish up with waxing your car. This is a hydrophobic substance that will help to repel water, ice, and dirt for longer.

Regularly Check Your Oil
There are a few different types of oil that you can choose for your car, but it’s important to consult your car’s manual before making this decision. Certain engines will struggle to perform properly with certain types of oil, which the weather can also impact. Cold weather will naturally cause oils to become thicker and more viscous. The thicker the oil, the more chance you have of your engine simply not starting. The thinner the oil, which depends on the type of oil and if the weather is warm, the more chance you have of your engine not being properly lubricated, resulting in the materials inside the engine wearing down faster over time. It’s important then to check your oil often during the cold months to ensure that it is consistently and regularly topped up when needed to keep your engine in good condition.

Optimize Windshield Wipers
Visibility can be hampered much more quickly during the winter months compared to the summertime. While you can still experience things like fog and rain during the summer, the winter brings the constant threat of snow flurries, hail, and frost. Combine that with the longer hours of darkness we experience, and it’s fair to say that visibility should be a top concern when driving at this time of the year. This is why it’s crucial to ensure that your windshield wipers are in good condition and that you’re also using the right solution of wiper fluid for your environment. Certain fluids just won’t cut through the ice and snow like a quality de-icer winter fluid, so make sure you research to find the right thing for your car.

Get Your Car Serviced
Unless you’re experienced in maintaining and fixing cars, you’ll want to strongly consider taking your car in for a service at an auto repair shop like Paul Campanella’s Auto & Tire Center. An auto repair shop will be able to assess your vehicle, preferably before the extreme weather rolls in, to decide whether or not your car is up to scratch to handle the colder months. They can check everything, including your engine, tires, brakes, transmission, and wheel alignment, and even do an oil change for you. While a full service like this will be able to identify any potential issues you can have remedied, it’ll also provide you with some peace of mind when driving out and about in bad weather.

Use Winter Tires In Heavy Snow
One such part of your vehicle that can struggle with the cold is your tires. When driving in the cold, it’s not uncommon for ice to form on the roads, whether it’s frozen rainwater or compacted ice underneath the snow. Many drivers will have specialized tires to deal with this in areas where this is a common occurrence. These tires will be much thicker, harder, and heavier, with deeper treads than normal road tires. Some can even be inlaid with metal studs to improve grip. You can also add things like tire chains, which fit over the surface of your wheels and act as a temporary improvement to your grips as the hard metal chains dig into the ice, assisted by the weight of the vehicle itself.

Charge Your Battery
Another thing to consider is to keep an eye on your battery. The cold air can sap the life out of a car battery, and you might only find this out when it’s too late. Attempting to start your car when you’re leaving for work in the morning, only to find that nothing happens when you turn the ignition, is very frustrating. A battery can die in any type of weather, but when temperatures fall to around 32°F, the capacity of your car battery can drop by around 20%. Always ensure that your batteries are charged, and consider keeping a spare or two with you at all times, as well as a heated battery blanket to revitalize those that may have succumbed to the grip of winter.

Pack An Emergency Kit
Our final suggestion is less related to taking care of your car and more about taking care of yourself and your passengers during the winter. As we said before, even the best-maintained car can run into problems, especially in the cold. Break downs occur whether you’re driving a brand new Ford Ranger or an old Volkswagen Golf. It’s absolutely essential then to pack an emergency winter car survival kit and a repair kit, especially if you’re going to be driving around far away from civilization. This kit should include everything you might need to stay safe and comfortable while waiting for assistance, including warm clothing, blankets, first aid, bottled water, and even road flares. You’ll also want some tools that could help you repair your car yourself or things like a snow shovel to dig your way out of a snow drift you may have gotten stuck in.

How To Find The Best Site For Your Motor Racing Bets In Kansas

Finding the right site, one that suits all your needs, can be tricky. With so many sportsbooks vying for a piece of the market, their primary goal is to entice new customers by offering super-exciting welcome bonuses and promotions. We’ll be taking a look at what makes some sites a better option than their competitors.

How to Choose the Best Site

The launch of legalized sports betting within the state may not be effective until September 1, however, there are still plenty of online sportsbooks available for motor racing fans in Kansas. This guide will help you find the ideal site to suit your individual needs by looking at the key attributes on offer.

Betting Apps

In this modern-day society, many of us conduct our banking, shopping, and entertainment transactions online. Open up your smartphone or tablet and you’ll see just how many apps you use without even thinking about it. We need convenience, ease of use, and lightning transactions whilst being on the move.

Kansas betting apps offer you all of this and more. Rather than waiting in line to place a bet, you can get it all done, in seconds, online. The top betting apps will offer easy navigation, multiple betting options, secure payouts, live streaming, and countless sports to choose from.

Kansas betting apps are available from Google Play or the Apple Store and they download in seconds. You can register and verify your account through the mobile app, just follow the on-screen instructions.

Is Kansas Sports Betting Legal?

Before you launch into our guide, there’ll be a burning question on your lips, “Is Kansas sports betting legal?” Well, ponder no more, the simple answer to your question is, yes! Finally, after years of legal wrangling (plus a whirlwind few months!), the Sunflower State is the latest to legalize sports betting.

The Kansas sports betting bill was introduced in 2021, however, it required several amendments. In March 2022, Kansas House voted 88−36 in favor of passing SB 84. It returned to Senate and, on April 29, the bill was approved by a 21−13 vote.

Governor Laura Kelly signed the bill on May 12 and it became effective as of July 1. The official launch has been set for September 1, 2022, which gives ample time for operators to complete the regulatory paperwork and obtain the necessary licenses.

Kansas Lottery owns four retail casinos within the state, which are all regulated by the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission. On their individual licenses, each casino can host three online sports betting skins, which could mean up to twelve Kansas betting apps in total.

It’s worth mentioning that Kansas Speedway plays host to a variety of events, including the NASCAR Cup Series and Xfinity Series. As a result, motor racing is a big hit in the Sunflower State, so it’s extremely likely that it will be a popular choice for online sports bettors.

Deposits & Withdrawals

Top sports betting sites will offer multiple payment options for deposits and withdrawals. Popular methods include Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Play+, PayPal, and Skrill. It’s advisable to check what options are available before signing up. Deposits should be free and withdrawals speedy.

Safety & Security

For a safe and fair gambling experience, the online sportsbook that you choose should be licensed and regulated by a recognized gaming authority such as the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission. Secure sites will utilize top-spec SSL encryption technology to safeguard all of your data and financial transactions.

Variety of Sports

Even though your top priority may be to find the best site for betting on motor racing events, it’s still great to have alternative options if you fancy a change. Many of the top-ranked online sportsbooks will offer a decent variety of sports, including basketball, soccer, tennis, horse racing, and golf.

Bonuses & Promotions

In such a competitive market, new player bonuses and promotions can be a real game-changer. Most sites will offer an enticing welcome bonus to kickstart your journey and promotional perks to keep you coming back for more. These may include deposit matches, free bets, cashback, enhanced odds, and loyalty bonuses.

Betting Options

Some sites will allow you to continue placing bets after an event has started (live betting), and most will offer a variety of betting options and odds. For motorsports betting, you’ll be looking for options like win bet, place bet, and podium finish, but for other sports, you’ll want a variety of options and decent odds can be a deal-breaker.

Customer Support

For those rare times that things go awry, one thing you’ll need is decent customer service. Check on player forums for feedback on the customer support team. You’ll want it to be readily available through various channels, for example, email or Live Chat 24/7, and for it to be responsive and knowledgeable.

Weekend schedule for Kansas-2

Photo by Ron Olds for SpeedwayMedia.com.

NASCAR travels to Kansas Speedway this Sunday for the second race of the Cup Series Playoffs. The Xfinity and Camping World Truck Series will join them for a full weekend of racing.

The Cup Series win by Erik Jones last week at Darlington means that none of the playoff drivers are locked into the next round, leaving only two more opportunities to win and automatically advance to the Round of 12. Several of the drivers fell victim to the Track Too Tough To Tame so the stakes will be high at Kansas.

The Xfinity Series has two more races in its regular season at Kansas Speedway and Bristol Motor Speedway but only seven drivers (Allgaier, Allmendinger, Berry, Gibbs, Gragson, Hill and Jones) have secured a place in the 12-driver playoff field. With five open spots and only two races left in the regular season, points will be almost as important as wins.

The Truck Series heads to Kansas for the final race in its Playoffs Round of 10. Grant Enfinger and Chandler Smith are the only two drivers locked into the upcoming Round of 8 and eight drivers will be racing for those final six spots.

All times are Eastern.

  • Chassis History/Info: Enfinger and the No. 23 team will compete with chassis no. 345 for the second race in a row on Friday night. This weekend will mark the first time that the chassis has raced at Kansas Speedway. The chassis made its official race debut in the most recent event at Richmond Raceway, where Grant contended for the win and finished in 4th position.
  • Trackside Appearances: Fans attending Friday night’s Kansas Lottery 200 will have the opportunity to meet Grant Enfinger at the Team Chevy stage in the Kansas Speedway fan zone from 5:00 PM – 5:15 PM local time, where he along with GMS Racing teammate Jack Wood will be participating in a Q&A session prior to the race.
  • Cancer Heroes: At Kansas Speedway, Grant Enfinger will be partnering with the Martin Truex, Jr. Foundation in their “Honor a Cancer Hero” initiative. Above the door of Grant’s No. 23 Chevrolet will feature the names of Anastasia Vessell and Kären Gavaletz, who were both nominated as part of the program. Mrs. Vessell is a breast cancer survivor who used to live in Enfinger’s hometown of Fairhope, Alabama, who just recently completed her final chemo and radiation treatments earlier this year. Mrs. Gavaletz was a strong advocate for fighting cancer, supporting the MTJF for many years. Unfortunately, she lost her fight with vulvar cancer on May 24th, 2022, and was a close family friend of Enfinger’s. GMS Racing is proud to honor both of these heroes on Grant’s truck this weekend.
  • FearTheFinger Playoffs Profile: Grant Enfinger is one of only two drivers that is locked into the Round of 8 in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series playoffs by virtue of his win at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park. Kansas Speedway will mark the end of the Round of 10, so Grant’s main objective throughout the race will be gaining valuable playoff points – by either winning one of the stages or by winning the overall race. - GE Quote: “It will be nice to be able to return to Kansas for a second time this season with our No. 23 team. I feel like we learned some stuff that helped us gain speed towards the end of the race in the spring, and also as a whole, we have really improved on our intermediate program, so I feel like we are bringing a better truck this time around. I want to say thank you to Allegiant for coming onboard this week, and I’m hoping that we give everyone a good run to be proud of on Friday night.”

Whether pushing a race car to the limit, hitting a fastball, or building the person you want to become, Sevwins strengthens the mind and character to excel. Daily challenges lead athletes to small commitments, intentional actions and big wins. Coaches see the mindset of the individual and team so they can create meaningful conversations.
  • Going for Gold: Since Sevwins made their initial partnership with Jack Wood and GMS Racing earlier in the season, Wood has been an active user on the platform, incorporating the challenges into his workout routine with his personal trainer, Josh Wise. Wood believes that the skills he has been able to learn by using Sevwins have helped him become a better athlete on and off the racetrack, and the team is glad to welcome them back this weekend.
  • Chassis History/Info: Wood and the No. 24 team will compete with GMS Racing chassis no. 327 at Kansas Speedway. This chassis has raced twice this season, and most recently at Texas Motor Speedway in June, where Wood finished 16th. One year ago, Sheldon Creed drove this chassis to victory lane from the pole at Darlington Raceway. At Kansas, this chassis has raced one time prior to this weekend, finishing in 26th with Creed in 2020.
  • Trackside Appearances: Fans attending Friday night’s Kansas Lottery 200 will have the opportunity to meet Jack Wood at the Team Chevy stage in the Kansas Speedway fan zone from 5:00 PM – 5:15 PM local time, where he along with GMS Racing teammate Grant Enfinger will be participating in a Q&A session prior to the race.
  • Cancer Heroes: As part of the Martin Truex, Jr. Foundation’s “Honor a Cancer Hero” campaign, Jack Wood will have the names of Henrietta Stamper and Debbi Fiore riding along on his No. 24 Silverado RST. Mrs. Stamper was a stage four ovarian cancer fighter, who unfortunately passed away after a five-year-long fight on October 30th, 2010. Mrs. Fiore is a cancer survivor who is an avid NASCAR fan, noting that she “loves all of the drivers”. Members of the Stamper family will be in attendance on Friday night, joining the team on pit road prior to the start of the race.
  • JW Quote: “Kansas is the only track on our schedule that we’re going to visit twice this year, so I think there’s definitely some expectations set by both of us driver, crew members, and everyone in the organization to head back to the track stronger than how we unloaded earlier in the year. I definitely have high hopes for this race, and we have implemented some different parts on our setup that we are excited to try out, so hopefully we will have a better showing this time around. I’m looking forward to having Sevwins back on my Chevy, it’s always great to bring some cool partners like them back to the racetrack. More importantly, I’m looking forward to getting back in our truck. I’ve been very blessed to have this opportunity to be a part of this team, and we have five more races this year to make the most of it. All of our guys on the No. 24 team have our heads down and will continue to be fighting hard in these races!”
