Ford Performance NASCAR – Homestead-Miami Advance

HOMESTEAD-MIAMI

Friday, March 21 — NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, 8 p.m. ET (FS1)
Saturday, March 22 — NASCAR Xfinity Series, 4 p.m. ET (CW)
Sunday, March 23 — NASCAR Cup Series, 3 p.m. ET (FS1)

Another NASCAR tripleheader is on tap for this weekend as Homestead-Miami Speedway hosts all three national series for the only time in 2025. Ford is tied for the most Cup Series wins at the facility with eight, which includes a five-race winning streak from 2004-08. Overall, the manufacturer has won 22 races in all three series combined (8 NXS and 6 NCTS).

BERRY NETS FIRST CUP WIN

Josh Berry became the 20th driver to win a NASCAR Cup Series race with Wood Brothers Racing after taking the checkered flag first at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Berry led the final 16 laps in claiming his first series victory and became the ninth first-time winner in team history, joining founder Glen Wood, 1960; Tiny Lund, 1963; Kyle Petty, 1986; Dale Jarrett, 1991; Elliott Sadler, 2001; Trevor Bayne, 2011; Ryan Blaney, 2017; and Harrison Burton, 2024. In addition, Berry became the 90th different driver to win a Cup Series race with Ford Performance and the first since Burton’s Daytona win last year.

A WIN TO REMEMBER

Joey Logano has only one NASCAR Cup Series win at Homestead-Miami Speedway in 16 career starts, but it’s one he likely won’t ever forget. That’s because it resulted in him winning the first of his three championships when he captured the Ford Ecoboost 400 in 2018. Logano led a race-high 80 laps, then powered ahead of Martin Truex Jr. following a late restart with 14 laps remaining to pull away for the win.

ONE MORE SPOT

Ryan Blaney comes into this weekend’s race at Homestead-Miami Speedway looking to erase the sting of last year when Tyler Reddick came out of nowhere to nip him at the line in a photo finish. That represented the second straight time Blaney finished second at the 1.5-mile track and created a must-win scenario the following week at Martinsville Speedway, which he successfully executed and advanced to the Championship 4.

KESELOWSKI UP FRONT

One driver to keep an eye on when it comes to qualifying at Homestead-Miami Speedway is Brad Keselowski, who will be making his 18th career NASCAR Cup Series start at the South Florida track. The Michigan native has been automatic when it comes to starting in the top 10 at the 1.5-mile facility, posting 13 top-10 starts in the last 14 events. His 9.4 average starting position is the best at any track in which he has started at least 10 times.

RYAN BLANEY ON FINISHING SECOND THE LAST TWO CUP RACES AT HOMESTEAD-MIAMI SPEEDWAY: “Last year, that was driver error of not doing my job on the last lap and you just try to look back on those things as far as that scenario of what would I do different, but as far as our approach of the car and things like that, I think we’ve done a really good job the last two years. It’s just a matter of trying to keep putting yourself in position to win that race. I’d like to win there. That’s a tough place to win at and we’ve had a good shot the last two years. We just need to put it together.”

FIVE-YEAR WIN STREAK HIGHLIGHTS ROUSH HISTORY AT HMS

Car owner Jack Roush has had his share of success on intermediate speedways, but his streak of winning seven times in nine years at Homestead-Miami is arguably one of the best. Kurt Busch won the organization’s first Cup race at the track in 2002 before Greg Biffle won three straight from 2004-06. That was part of a five-year streak that saw Matt Kenseth and Carl Edwards go to victory lane in ’07 and ’08, respectively. Edwards eventually capped the run by winning for a second time in 2010. Since then, Roush has celebrated NASCAR Xfinity Series championships at the track, twice with Ricky Stenhouse Jr. in 2011 and 2012, and once with Chris Buescher in 2015.

CUSTER ANOTHER HOMESTEAD WINNER

Homestead-Miami Speedway is sure to bring back good memories for Cole Custer, who earned his first NASCAR Xfinity Series victory at Homestead in 2017. Custer, who narrowly missed advancing to the Championship 4 one week earlier, dominated the finale as he led 182-of-200 laps. This will mark his fourth NASCAR Cup Series start at the track and he’s still looking for his first top 20 finish. Custer had four top-10 runs in six career NXS events and had an average finish of 6.2.

MAYER AND HOMESTEAD

Haas Factory Team driver Sam Mayer will be making his first start at Homestead-Miami Speedway with his new team, but he’s already produced a solid body of work at the facility. One of his seven career series wins came at HMS in 2023 and in three career starts, he has finished fifth, first and ninth. That works out to an average finish of 5.0. The 2025 season has gotten off to a good start for Mayer, who has four top-10 runs in the first five races and stands third in the overall point standings.

BURTON AND HOMESTEAD

Harrison Burton and his AM Racing team have registered three top-10 finishes in their first five events together, including an eighth-place run last week at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Burton, who has one of his four career series wins at Homestead-Miami Speedway (2020), comes into this weekend’s event 13th in points. He has four career NXS starts at the track and has finished 10th or better three times. This will mark his first series appearance since 2021.

MAJESKI AND CRAFTON CONSISTENT AT HOMESTEAD

Defending NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion and current points leader Ty Majeski has made four starts at Homestead-Miami Speedway and has four top-10 finishes, including a victory in 2022. Majeski, who has an average finishing position of 5.5 at the track, capitalized on fuel issues from some of his competitors last season to finish second. Three-time champion Matt Crafton has also had his share of success at HMS, posting a win and 14 top-10 finishes in 23 starts. He has finished ninth or better in nine of the last 10 events at the track and has a career finishing average of 10.1.

LEGACY MOTOR CLUB INTEGRATES NIX BIOSENSORS’ PERSONALIZED HYDRATION TECHNOLOGY FOR OPTIMIZED PERFORMANCE

In a sport where every second counts, the partnership will optimize performance for drivers and pit crew athletes, by providing real-time hydration monitoring

STATESVILLE, N.C. (March 18, 2025) – Nix Biosensors, the leading provider of cutting-edge hydration monitoring technology is proud to announce its partnership with LEGACY MOTOR CLUB as the Official Hydration Biosensor Supplier. This collaboration will provide both drivers and pit crew athletes with advanced hydration insights, optimizing endurance, reaction time, and overall performance in one of the most physically demanding sports.

LEGACY MOTOR CLUB, home to legendary NASCAR champions Jimmie Johnson and Richard Petty as well as rising stars like Erik Jones and John Hunter Nemechek, understands that success on race day is a team effort. While drivers battle heat and fatigue inside the car, pit crews execute precision work in just seconds, where every movement is critical. Dehydration can lead to slower reaction times, diminished strength, and impaired decision-making—factors that can make or break a race.

Through this partnership, Nix Biosensors will equip LEGACY MOTOR CLUB’s pit crew and drivers with its cutting-edge, non-invasive hydration biosensor. The wearable sensor analyzes sweat in real-time, offering instant feedback on hydration levels, allowing the team to proactively manage fluid intake and maintain peak performance.

“Pit crews are elite athletes,” said Meridith Cass, Founder & CEO of Nix Biosensors. “They train rigorously, execute under immense pressure and in extreme environmental conditions, and their ability to perform at the highest level directly impacts race results. Even a one-second delay in a pit stop can mean the difference between winning and losing. With our hydration biosensor, we’re giving the team the data they need to stay sharp, strong, fast, and safe.”

Pit crews endure extreme physical exertion—lifting heavy tires, operating impact wrenches, and rapidly executing split-second maneuvers—all while wearing fireproof suits in ambient temperatures that often exceed 90°F. Research has shown that an athlete at just 2% dehydration can lose up to 10% of their performance. Maintaining proper hydration can improve muscle function, reduce fatigue, and sharpen cognitive performance, all of which are vital for pit crews striving to shave even fractions of a second off a stop.

“Hydration plays a massive role in keeping our team at peak performance,” said Chris Hall, Director of Pit Crew Operations. “Whether it’s Jimmie Johnson behind the wheel or our pit crew jumping over the wall, we need everyone operating at their absolute best. By working with Nix Biosensors, we can take a scientific approach to hydration, helping our entire team push the limits and gain a competitive edge.”

This partnership underscores LEGACY MOTOR CLUB’s commitment to innovation and athletic performance across the entire team—on the track and on pit road.

Two New M1 Racecars Entries Join TA2 Field

Guthrie’s Garage Outfits No. 2 Camaro for Veteran Title Contender Mike Skeen; Troy Benner Autosport To Run No. 00 Camaro for Pro-Am Driver Jared Odrick

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (March 17, 2025) – A pair of new M1 Racecars entries have joined the Cube 3 Architecture TA2 Series field for the remainder of the 2025 season beginning with this weekend’s Mission Foods Road Atlanta SpeedTour at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta.

Veteran road racer and 2020 TA2 Series champion Mike Skeen, who drove to a runner-up finish from his record-setting pole qualifying position in the No. 48 Chevrolet Camaro for TeamSLR during last month’s season-opening weekend at Sebring (Fla.) International Raceway, will continue his quest for a second series title in the No. 2 Guthrie’s Garage Chevrolet Camaro for team owner Jim Guthrie.

Meanwhile, Jared Odrick, whose first full season of TA2 competition in 2024 resulted in a fourth-place finish in the final Pro-Am Challenge-class standings, moves to M1 Racecars equipment for the remainder of the season in the No. 00 Black Underwear Chevrolet Camaro campaigned by Troy Benner Autosport. Odrick opened this season with a third-place Pro-Am Challenge finish in the Feb. 22 race at Sebring.

“Obviously, I hate to see Jim (Guthrie) injuring his shoulder to where he can’t run himself – that’s kind of a bummer – but it’s neat to partner together and try to go win a championship with Mike Skeen driving. That’ll be fun, and our guys are excited about it,” said Scott Lagasse Jr., co-owner of TeamSLR and chassis manufacturer M1 Racecars. “And Jared, he’s such a likable, good person, and you can’t help but appreciate that elite level of a professional athlete and the work ethic that goes along with it. He’s going to be a lot of fun to work with over the coming years.”

Skeen, the 38-year-old from Durham, North Carolina, drove for TeamSLR for just the second time at last month’s Sebring event but is thoroughly familiar with M1 Racecars equipment. He competed in the chassis during his tour of duty with Peterson Racing in 2022 and 2023, making 12 starts driving a part-time TA2 schedule. He scored back-to-back victories for Peterson in the 2022 races at Road Atlanta and WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California, among his five podium finishes in 2022 and 2023. He’s an 11-time TA2 winner in 36 career starts dating back to 2011.

“I am really appreciative of Jim Guthrie stepping up to put me in his car for this year,” said Skeen, who swept the 2020 season-ending weekend doubleheader at Road Atlanta for his fifth and sixth victories of that championship campaign. “Being able to put this program together in partnership with TeamSLR will make it really productive for everyone. I can’t wait to get to Road Atlanta, where I’ve had a really good record of success in the past. I’d love to reward Guthrie’s Garage with a win right off the bat.”

Odrick, the 37-year-old from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, who played seven seasons with the NFL’s Miami Dolphins and Jacksonville Jaguars from 2010 through 2016, took delivery of his M1 Racecars equipment after the Sebring season opener and put it right to work during the March 8-9 SCCA Hoosier Super Tour weekend doubleheader at Road Atlanta, scoring GT2-class victories from the pole in both races.

“From a purely car standpoint, one of the things that has stood out to me about the M1 is its ability to put the power down in a balanced manner,” Odrick said. “From an overall standpoint, it’ll be nice to work with TeamSLR in gaining information that will be pertinent to my development and the development of the car. It’s part of what you’re offered when you purchase one of their cars, and I’m looking forward to developing as a driver. As I’ve gotten to know Scotty, what I really appreciate is that he’s not here to purely stroke your ego but to challenge you, so that’s what I’m looking forward to probably the most.”

The two entries bring to five the total number of M1 Racecars that will be part of the 36-car TA2 field at Road Atlanta. TeamSLR’s Tristan McKee, Barry Boes and Rob Clifton will be behind the wheel of the Nos. 28, 27 and 8 Chevrolet Camaros, respectively. Taking the weekend off in their 2025 part-time TA2 schedule in M1 Racecars equipment are Peterson Racing’s Austin Green, who opened the season with a third-place finish at Sebring, and team owner Doug Peterson.

“Overall, we’re pretty proud of who we have in the M1 cars right now, a lot of guys at a lot of different levels and a lot of different places on the learning curve,” Lagasse said. “It’s a lot of fun for us because it’s a really solid, meshed group. I see a lot of good competitive rivalry, but a lot of friendships there to help each other in that process.”

This weekend’s Mission Foods Road Atlanta SpeedTour kicks off with a pair of TA2 test sessions Friday, followed by practice and qualifying Saturday, and Sunday’s 40-lap, 75-minute race set for 1:45 p.m. EDT with live video streaming coverage provided by new series broadcast partner Speed Sport 1, as well as the Trans Am channel on YouTube.

About TeamSLR:

TeamSLR (Scott Lagasse Racing) competes fulltime in the Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli’s newly renamed Cube 3 Architecture TA2 Series in a multifaceted effort that includes dedicated entries in the TA2 division, customer programs, driver coaching and car construction. Its history dates back to 1985 and covers a wide spectrum of motorsports, including NASCAR, IMSA, SCCA, ARCA and ASA. TeamSLR is a family-owned organization run by Scott Lagasse Sr., and Scott Lagasse Jr., The father-and-son duo have combined to win more than 120 races and seven championships across a variety of series and styles of racecars, from paved ovals to road courses to dirt tracks. TOP FUEL’S SHAWN LANGDON LOOKS TO STAY RED-HOT IN THE DESERT AT NHRA ARIZONA NATIONALS

PHOENIX (March 17, 2025) – Fresh off another great start to open the 2025 NHRA Mission Drag Racing Series season, Shawn Langdon is going to a track that has served him well in recent years.

The former Top Fuel world champion heads to this weekend’s 40th annual NHRA Arizona Nationals at Firebird Motorsports Park as the reigning event winner in the loaded category. But he’s also advanced to back-to-back finals at a facility celebrating four decades of incredible racing this weekend, giving Langdon a great opportunity to keep rolling in Phoenix and continue a standout start to 2025.

Langdon advanced to the final round in Gainesville in his 11,000-horsepower Kalitta Air Careers dragster, falling in a thrilling race to reigning champ Antron Brown. But after an impressive turnaround last season, Langdon kept that momentum rolling, which should bode well for his chances at this weekend’s “Duel in the Desert.”

“We’re looking forward to getting back to Phoenix,” Langdon said. “We had a great weekend in Gainesville; the Kalitta Air Careers car is running really well. We’ve had success in Phoenix the last couple years so obviously you’re looking to keep the trend going. It just seems like we get good results at some tracks, and fortunately, Phoenix has been one of those tracks lately so we’re just going to keep trying to make good runs, and then hopefully we can get another win there.”

Langdon (Top Fuel), Austin Prock (Funny Car) and Greg Anderson (Pro Stock) all claimed wins at the NHRA Arizona Nationals in 2024, with Prock and Anderson both finishing the year as world champions. This year’s race will again be broadcast on FS1, including eliminations coverage at 6:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, March 23.

Langdon just missed his second world title as the Top Fuel championship chase went down to the wire. He appears to be in the mix again in 2025 in a class filled with stout contenders and Langdon will get a chance to double-up in Phoenix with the Mission #2Fast2Tasty Challenge on Saturday and eliminations on Sunday.

His semifinal rematch on Saturday has him taking on Jasmine Salinas, while the other matchup features Brown and racing legend Tony Stewart. The two winners will meet up to close out qualifying with important championship points and a bonus purse on the line.

To get a win on Sunday, Langdon will also have to deal with the likes of Brittany Force, Clay Millican, Shawn Reed, Clay Millican and Kalitta Motorsports teammate Doug Kalitta. Langdon, though, loves the continued improvement from his team. Second-year crew chief Brian Husen has impressed since taking over tuning duties to open 2024, though it didn’t come as a surprise to Langdon.

“We have a great race car right now, so all is good,” Langdon said. “We’re all super excited with the Kalitta Air Careers team after we had a great season last year. Brian obviously exceeded a lot of people’s expectations in his first season as crew chief, but internally, we knew what his talent level was so it didn’t come as a shock to us.”

Prock’s Phoenix triumph marked his first career Funny Car win. The defending champ struggled in Gainesville, but he’ll look to get on track in Phoenix against John Force Racing teammate Jack Beckman, Hagan and Capps, Green, Todd and Bob Tasca III.

Anderson earned his sixth world title at the NHRA Finals in a winner-take-all final over Glenn. Last year’s race featured that same matchup, with Anderson earning the win. Other Pro Stock stars include Aaron Stanfield and Erica Enders.

The NHRA Arizona Nationals also features thrilling competition in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, the Congruity NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series and the Legends Nitro Series. Fans can also expect exciting performances from Team “Muy Caliente” and Curt White “Iceman” in their Jet Cars.

Fans will also be invited to the Nitro Alley Stage, which is the main entertainment hub in the pits. The stage hosts Nitro School, meet and greets, autograph sessions, music and much more. Race fans at Firebird Motorsports Park can enjoy the special pre-race ceremonies that introduce each driver and includes the fan favorite SealMaster Track Walk. The final thrilling experience of any NHRA event is the winner’s circle celebration on Sunday, where fans are invited to congratulate the event winners.

As always, fans get a pit pass to the most powerful and sensory-filled motorsports attraction on the planet. Fans can see their favorite teams in action and servicing their cars, get autographs from their favorite drivers and more.

NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series qualifying features two rounds at 2 and 4:30 p.m. PT on Friday, March 21, and the final two rounds on Saturday, March 22 at 11:30 a.m. and 2:15 p.m. The finals of the Mission #2Fast2Tasty Challenge take place at the end of final qualifying in each category. Final eliminations are scheduled for 11 a.m. PT on Sunday, March 23. Television coverage includes qualifying action on FS1 at 8 p.m. ET. on Friday and 12 p.m. on Sunday, leading into eliminations at 6:30 p.m. ET.

How to Check by VIN Number: The Ultimate Guide to Verifying Vehicle History

When buying a used car, understanding its history is critical to avoid potential issues and ensure a safe investment. Conducting a check by VIN number is one of the most reliable ways to uncover important details about a vehicle’s past, including accident records, ownership changes, and maintenance history. This guide will walk you through the process and highlight the key benefits of performing a VIN number lookup.

What is a VIN Number?

A VIN, or Vehicle Identification Number, is a unique 17-character code assigned to every vehicle. It serves as the car’s fingerprint, containing essential information such as its manufacturer, model, year of production, and more. This code is crucial for accessing detailed records about the car’s history through specialized databases.

Why Checking by VIN Number is Important

A VIN check offers invaluable insights that help you make informed decisions. Here’s why it’s a must-have step in the car-buying process:

  • Accident History: Learn whether the vehicle was involved in any accidents and assess the extent of the damage.
  • Odometer Verification: Ensure the mileage on the car matches its records, avoiding odometer fraud.
  • Ownership Records: Verify the number of previous owners and the nature of their use (personal, commercial, rental, etc.).
  • Title Status: Confirm the vehicle has a clean title, free from liens, theft reports, or salvage status.
  • Maintenance History: Access service records to ensure the car has been well-maintained.

How to Locate the VIN Number

Finding the VIN is simple. Here are the common places to look:

  • On the dashboard, visible through the windshield on the driver’s side.
  • Inside the driver’s side door frame, near the latch.
  • On official documents such as the car’s registration, insurance policy, or title.

How to Check by VIN Number

Performing a VIN number lookup is straightforward. Here’s a step-by-step guide:

  1. Step 1: Locate the VIN on the vehicle or its documentation.
  2. Step 2: Visit a trusted platform like CarfaxDoc, which specializes in providing detailed vehicle history reports.
  3. Step 3: Enter the VIN in the search field and initiate the lookup.
  4. Step 4: Review the comprehensive report, which includes accident history, ownership records, mileage verification, and more.

Benefits of Checking by VIN Number

Performing a VIN check before buying a used car has several advantages:

  • Transparency: Gain a clear understanding of the vehicle’s condition and history.
  • Risk Mitigation: Avoid cars with hidden issues such as flood damage or salvage titles.
  • Smart Spending: Ensure the car’s price aligns with its actual value based on its history.
  • Peace of Mind: Enter the purchase process with confidence, knowing the car’s background has been thoroughly vetted.

Red Flags to Watch For in a VIN Report

A VIN report can reveal potential red flags that may influence your decision:

  • Multiple Ownership Changes: Frequent changes in ownership could signal recurring problems.
  • Accident Records: Significant collision history may indicate underlying structural or mechanical issues.
  • Unresolved Recalls: Open recalls can compromise the vehicle’s safety and performance.
  • Odometer Discrepancies: Inconsistent mileage readings may point to odometer fraud.

Why Choose CarfaxDoc for VIN Checks?

CarfaxDoc is a trusted platform for performing VIN checks. With its extensive database and user-friendly interface, it provides accurate and detailed reports that help you make informed decisions. Whether you’re buying from a dealership or a private seller, CarfaxDoc ensures you have all the information you need to proceed confidently.

Conclusion: Make Smarter Car-Buying Decisions

Performing a check by VIN number is a vital step in the car-buying process. It provides transparency, ensures peace of mind, and helps you avoid costly mistakes. By using reliable services like CarfaxDoc, you can access comprehensive vehicle history reports and make smarter, safer decisions. Don’t leave your next car purchase to chance—conduct a thorough VIN check and drive away with confidence.

The track will also get access to NHRA’s extensive support programs, insurance benefits and national marketing platforms. Along with a great racing environment and a loaded event schedule, Thunder Valley Dragways is well-known in the area for its campground-like pit area setting, which includes more than 100 pit spaces with electricity.

JOSH BERRY WINS FIRST CUP SERIES RACE AT LAS VEGAS

LAS VEGAS, NV – March 17, 2025 – Wood Brothers Racing’s Josh Berry won Sunday’s Pennzoil 400, earning his first NASCAR Cup Series victory. The triumph marked Ford’s 742nd all-time NASCAR Cup Series victory and the 101st Cup Series win for the iconic Wood Brothers Racing team — all achieved with Ford Motor Company.

“Congratulations to Leonard, Len, Eddie, Jon, Kim, Miles, Josh, and everyone at Wood Brothers Racing on the race win at Las Vegas” said Doug Yates, President and CEO of Roush Yates Engines. “For Josh to capture his first Cup win in the iconic Wood Brothers Racing No. 21 Ford Performance Dark Horse Mustang during their 75th anniversary is incredibly special. Our team at Roush Yates Engines works hard to deliver the power and reliability needed to win at this level, and today it all came together. We couldn’t be more excited.”

“I’m just really proud of everybody on this team. This is a great group. They build great race cars and it’s just been a privilege to drive for them. I’m just so really thankful to be here. There are so many people I could thank for this moment, but to be a Cup Series winner is really special,” commented Berry.

Four Ford Performance drivers started Sunday’s race in the top 10: Team Penske’s Joey Logano in P2, Team Penske’s Austin Cindric in P3, Wood Brothers Racing’s Josh Berry in P7, and Front Row Motorsports’ Zane Smith in P9. Team Penske’s Joey Logano quickly took the lead after battling with Michael McDowell in the opening laps. After an early caution, teammate Austin Cindric surged to the front, leading over 40 laps and winning the first stage of the race. Multiple cautions in the second stage created various pit strategies, shuffling the drivers at the end of the stage. Ryan Blaney finished the stage in P6 and Josh Berry finished in P8. The action-packed race featured 13 different race leaders, a record 32 lead changes and nine cautions for 53 laps. During the ninth and final caution of the race, Josh Berry pitted and took four fresh tires. When the race restarted with 18 laps remaining, Berry battled Daniel Suárez side-by-side for 3 laps until Berry took the lead on lap 252. After clearing Suárez, Berry widened the gap in clean air and crossed the finish line 1.358 seconds ahead of the runner-up.

A total of three Ford Performance drivers finished in the top-10: Wood Brothers Racing’s Josh Berry in P1, RFK Racing’s Ryan Preece in P3, and Team Penske’s Austin Cindric in P6.

The Xfinity Series also raced at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Saturday, where four Ford Performance drivers finished in the top 10. Haas Factory Team’s Sam Mayer finished in P5, RSS Racing’s Ryan Sieg finished in P7, AM Racing’s Harrison Burton finished in P8, and Haas Factory Team’s Sheldon Creed finished in P10.

Both the NASCAR Cup and Xfinity Series head to Homestead, Florida this week and race at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Berry Wins At Las Vegas

In just his fifth Cup Series race in the iconic No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane Mustang Dark Horse, Josh Berry earned his first career Cup Series victory in Sunday’s Pennzoil 400 Presented by Jiffy Lube at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. It was the 101st win for his Wood Brothers team, and Berry becomes the 20th driver to win a Cup race in the No. 21. The victory also was the first for crew chief Miles Stanley.

“Man, I just can’t believe it,” Berry said. “I’m just so proud of everybody on this team. The car was really solid all day. We just executed. We had a mishap on pit road and were able to rebound again, and I’m just super proud of these guys. I’m just really trying to soak this all in, honestly. I’m trying to take my time with everything and really enjoy this moment.”

Berry ran among the leaders all day. He overcame an extra stop to tighten a loose lug nut, then emerging from a late-race duel with Daniel Suarez to take the lead with 16 laps to go and pull away to a 1.358-second victory.

The victory should have come as no real surprise given the performances by Berry and the No. 21 team in recent races and in Sunday’s 400-miler. He qualified third at Atlanta and led 56 laps before being collected in a late-race wreck. Then last week at Phoenix he qualified fourth, ran strong all day and finished fourth.

At Las Vegas, he qualified seventh and raced in the top-five and top-10 throughout the first Stage. He ended that 80-lap segment in eighth place, earning three Stage points. In Stage Two it was more of the same as he raced in the top five and top 10 before finishing the Stage in eighth place and earning three more Stage points. The team did have one hiccup in the final segment of the race. Berry had to return to pit road after a stop during the Stage break to tighten a loose lug nut.

“It was obviously disappointing, but thankfully the wheel stayed on and we were able to make it to pit road before Miles was going to get a vacation,” Berry said. “It just broke up the race. There was a lot of strategy going on and we were able to capitalize on it. We had a great battle with Joey [Logano] and was hoping it would go green, but we got the caution and this pit crew rebounded and they dug deep at the end and had a great stop and we fought for the win.”

He restarted 19th after getting his wheel tightened and steered through a multi-car crash on the restart to rejoin the top 10. From there he steadily moved forward, moving into the top five with 45 laps remaining and into the top two with 34 to go. From that point on it was a two-driver race between Berry and Suarez, with the 34-year-old Berry pushing the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Mustang to the front to take the lead and the win in his 53rd career Cup start.

“I’m just really proud of everybody on this team,” Berry said. “This is a great group. They build great race cars, and it’s just been a privilege to drive for them. I’m just so really thankful to be here. There are so many people I could thank for this moment, but to be a Cup Series winner is really special.”

Next up for Berry and the Wood Brothers team is next Sunday’s Straight Talk Wireless 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
