DJ MICHAELIS TO PLAY SPRING BREAK AFTER PARTY AT PHOENIX INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY THIS WEEKEND

Saturday Post-Race show adds to entertainment featuring Soul Asylum and Christopher Shayne

PHOENIX – Race weekend entertainment for the Good Sam 500 at Phoenix International Raceway will feature two new concerts as DJ Michaeliswill throw a ‘Spring Break After Party’ following the AXALTA Faster. Tougher. Brighter. 200 on Saturday, March 12, while Christopher Shayne will entertain fans post-qualifying for Gatorade Pole Day on Friday, March 11.

Famous for deconstructing popular music, PIR fans know DJ Michaelis for putting his own twist on the traditional driver introductions before the NASCAR Sprint Cup races. The West Coast DJ holds big room residencies in cities around the world including Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Chicago, Moscow and Bali, and has new Trap and Progressive House music being released later this month.

Arizona’s own Christopher Shayne will highlight Friday’s entertainment as he will be performing a concert at the Fan Midway immediately following NASCAR Sprint Cup Qualifying for Gatorade Pole Day on March 11. Nationally known for his hard rock band Whiskey Six, Shayne introduces a new line-up in concert at PIR. The band brings southern-tinged desert rock with Christopher on lead vocals and guitar, playing songs with infectious hooks inspired by American music greats ranging from ZZ Top to The Black Crowes to Johnny Cash.

Prior to the Good Sam 500 on Sunday, March 13, Grammy-nominated Soul Asylum will also be performing a free concert for any fan with a grandstand ticket. The multi-platinum rock group known for their 1994 hit “Runaway Train,” will entertain fans in the midway area at 10:30 a.m. MST.

Following the Spring Break After Party on the Fan Midway on Saturday, fans can make their way back to the new Busch Garage for a night concerts starting with Georgia Chrome from 7 – 9 p.m. The Arizona-based consists of bassist, guitarist, drummer, a male and female lead vocalist, one of which also plays a mean fiddle, and is well-known for their high-energy performances around the Valley. Making his PIR debut, the local Donny Grubb Band will close out Saturday evening with a concert from 9-11 p.m. at the Busch Garage.

Race weekend entertainment officially kicks off at the Busch Garage with Harry Luge, Jr. on Thursday, March 10 from 7 – 9 p.m. The Arizona-born singer/songwriter is a favorite on the country music scene throughout the Southwest and has become a regular on the Busch Garage stage during PIR’s NASCAR weekends since 2005. He will be returning to the Busch Garage stage on Friday, March 11 from 9 -11 p.m.

Hitting the Busch Garage on Thursday night, Chad Freeman & Redline will close out Thursday night entertainment from 9 – 11 p.m. Rocking stages from California to Nashville, the band is known as one of the most energetic and talented country bands in the southwest.

Also performing at the Busch Garage will be Arizona’s original and best hair band rock show, METALHEAD, who will entertain fans on Friday from 7 – 9 p.m. The group of four have been performing across the state since 2003 and will be returning to PIR for the third-straight year.
