SMITHLEY RETURNS TO RICHMOND

RICHMOND, Va. – With only two races left in the Xfinity Series regular season, Garrett Smithley will be shooting for a top-15 run in Friday night’s Virginia529 College Savings 250 at Richmond International Raceway.

Smithley finished 20th in the season’s earlier visit to RIR.

“Richmond has probably been my favorite short track we have been to all year,” Smithley said. “We had our best short-track finish of 20th in the spring, so naturally I’m pretty excited about going back. We have made improvements to this car and setup all year, so I’m looking to improve our 20th-place finish this weekend.”

Smithley is 18th in driver points entering the race, the 25th of the season. The regular season will end the following week at Chicagoland Speedway, then the series moves into its first Chase playoff.

Practice is scheduled at 8 a.m. (ET) Friday. Qualifying is set for 4:15 p.m., with the race to follow at 7:30.
