NASCAR Cup Series

Jimmy Johnson spun out early in the race. His chances to win the race seemed distant at best. But just after midnight in the two-hour rain delayed SpongeBob SquarePants 400, Jimmy Johnson took the checkered flag for his third victory of the year and his third victory at Kansas Speedway.

NASCAR provides the show with its headliners, the heroes on the fast horses, that ride in with the stone cold determined stare which steals our hearts and kindles our imaginations. They perform their death defying feats taking our breath away and solidifying their place in our families and our lives.

Today during a NASCAR media availability at Kansas Speedway, AJ Allmendinger revealed to media members that he has signed an extension to his driver agreement with JTG Daugherty Racing that will make him the driver of the No. 47 Chevrolet SS for at least through the 2020 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race season.

"Definitely cool to get another pole," Logano said. "Last year it took us pretty much the whole year to get one pole," he said. "We won a lot of first and second sessions, but we'd fall on our face in the third session. So it's pretty special to be able to figure out these third sessions and still have a lot of speed in our car when we get to those rounds.

Kasey Kahne came very close to capturing his first pole position of 2015, but will start on the front row in his No. 5 Great Clips Chevrolet SS after posting the second-fastest time in qualifying for Saturday night’s SpongeBob SquarePants 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) race at Kansas Speedway.

"It is cool to get another pole. Last year it too us pretty much the whole year to get one pole and we won a lot of first and second sessions and would fall on our face in the third session. It is good to figure out the third session and have speed in our car when we get there. You don’t get anything for winning the first and second round. That is what I figured out last year.”

Erik Jones - Starting Position: 12th- Were you pleased to make it to the final round of your first Sprint Cup qualifying effort? “It was a little disappointing because we’d run better laps in our first two rounds, but we just tried to make an adjustment there to take a stab at trying to go faster. It just didn’t work out.

"Our last one was our best one, but it wasn’t enough. It was a really good lap and my best lap of the day so I feel good about that and what we are bringing tomorrow night. We had some good practices today and Keith Rodden (crew chief) and the guys are doing a really nice job and hopefully we can bring that again tomorrow night.”

Greg Biffle, No. 16 Cheez-It Patrick Star Ford Fusion – “We just got a little better speed in our car and this racetrack has been pretty good for us. We barely made the first round and barely made the second and then I just drove it – over drove it. I just said I was going to go for it. I didn’t care what happened.
