NASCAR Cup Series

After three nights of battling in the bullring that is Bristol Motor Speedway last weekend, the Sprint Cup Series and Nationwide Series head to Atlanta Motor Speedway for Labor Day weekend and more racing under the lights on the fast 1.5 mile speedway. With a track surface that is old and worn, having not been repaved since its reconfiguration in 1997, the track has gotten rave reviews from drivers who enjoy slipping and sliding around on the worn out asphalt.

These two drivers have been in close proximity at the front of the field on numerous occasions this season. At the conclusion of three races so far in 2013; Matt Kenseth and Kasey Kahne have been involved in very exciting battles for the win.

The smoke cleared after the weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway, and there were surprises upon surprises. After an exciting NASCAR Camping World truck race in which Kyle Busch just edged out Timothy Peters on the last lap, it was followed up with Busch dominating the Nationwide Series race. What happened on Sunday was different, if not pleasing.

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Bobby Labonte is currently being treated at a local hospital near his home in Trinity, North Carolina after being involved in an accident while riding his bicycle near his home on the morning of Wednesday, August 28.

Sunday night’s AdvoCare 500 Sprint Cup Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway will be similar to Game 6 in a best-of-seven series for Kurt Busch.

After Camry driver Kyle Busch claimed victories in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) and NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) races last week at Bristol Motor Speedway, his Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) teammate Matt Kenseth captured the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) checkered flag for a Toyota sweep in Tennessee. Busch utilized a late-race pass on the half-mile oval to win Wednesday's Truck Series event and went on to dominate Friday's NNS event, where he led 228 laps (of 250). Kenseth led a race -high 149 laps (of 500), and held off a fast- closing Kasey Kahne over the final laps to register his fifth NSCS win of 2013 -- the most in the series.

Biffle has 18 Sprint Cup Series starts at Atlanta, earning three top-five and nine top-10 finishes. He has an average starting position of 12.5 and finishing position of 16 at Atlanta.

While Ryan Truex’s Sprint Cup Series debut might not have turned out exactly as he had hoped, the 21 year old development driver for Richard Petty Motorsports and past K&N Series Champion left Bristol feeling ‘fortunate and lucky’ to be where he is at currently in the sport today.

Kenseth led the final 125 laps and held off Kasey Kahne to win the Irwin Tools Night Race at Bristol, his series-best fifth win of the year. If the Chase For The Cup started this week, Kenseth would be the top seed.

Earlier today, Stewart-Haas Racing held a press conference to officially announce the signing of Kurt Busch. The 2004 NASCAR Sprint Cup champion will pilot the Haas Automation Chevrolet as the 4th car in the 2014 Stewart-Haas Racing fleet.
