NASCAR Cup Series

The Southern 500 at Darlington is tradition. Sometimes it is good, such as during the latter portions of the event, and sometimes it is not. Sometimes there are no cautions, sometimes that leaves very few on the lead lap, and sometimes NASCAR has to throw a caution for debris, or too many mosquitos, or whatever they can think of.

2007: The 2007 Nextel All-Star Challenge featured some fireworks along with a first time All-Star Race Winner in Kevin Harvick. Kenny Wallace won the fan vote spot in the race and Martin Truex Jr. and Johnny Sauter raced their way into the Nextel All-Star Challenge from the Nextel Open.

Few weeks in the 10-month NASCAR Sprint Cup season put as great of a spotlight on pit crew members as the next two weeks at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Fifth Third Bancorp (Nasdaq: FITB) today announced a multi-year marketing partnership with Roush Fenway Racing, beginning this season with four races as the primary sponsor of Matt Kenseth’s No. 17 Ford Fusion in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. A similar number of races for the following years will be announced at a later date.

Tommy Baldwin Racing (TBR) looked to have a solid finish in the Bojangles Southern 500 on Saturday night. Dave Blaney drove to the 34th-place starting spot in Friday’s qualifying.

After weeks of giving away top 10 finishes with great cars, Marcos Ambrose took a bad one and went about earning a good finish at Darlington the hard way.

With the NASCAR moms getting the race started with the command, here is what was surprising and not surprising from the 63rd annual Bojangles’ Southern 500.

Considering the two have won the last seven NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championships, it was only fitting that it came down to the two of them to settle who would take home another one of NASCAR’s prestigious trophies on Saturday night.
