Brad Pitt’s path to fame was challenging. At 23, he arrived at the Dream Factory of Los Angeles with only $325 in his pocket. Next, he once again shared the screen with Anthony Hopkins in the film Meet Joe Black, where he plays Death incarnated in the body of a young man. His gallery of unusual characters also includes a cheerful but not very bright fitness instructor in the Coen Brothers’ black comedy Burn After Reading and an ironic Nazi hunter in Quentin Tarantino’s postmodernist Western Inglourious Basterds. Tarantino wrote the role of Lieutenant Aldo Raine for Pitt in particular. 

Brad Pitt Breakthrough Films

All of the above films had good box office numbers but were not widely recognized by critics. The actor collaborated again with David Fincher and starred in Fight Club, portraying the charismatic soap salesman Tyler Durden. Fincher’s film eventually became a cult classic. 

In 2001, Brad Pitt’s career became even more significant, not only due to the number of released films but also thanks to his collaboration with Steven Soderbergh in Ocean’s Eleven. The film became one of the most successful in 2001 worldwide and remains a benchmark in the heist film genre. In Terrence Malick’s metaphysical drama The Tree of Life, the actor replaced the late Heath Ledger in the role of a despotic family father. The NASCAR Cup Series, CRAFTSMAN Truck Series and the ARCA Menards Series travel to Kansas Speedway this weekend. The Xfinity Series is off and returns to competition on May 11 at Darlington Raceway.

Richard Petty will be honored as the Grand Marshal and will give the command, “Drivers, start your engines,” to kick off Sunday’s AdventHealth 400 as NASCAR continues to celebrate the Petty family’s 75th year in NASCAR.

Ten current Cup Series drivers have been to victory lane at Kansas led by the defending race winner, Denny Hamlin. He also leads the series with four previous victories at the track (2012, 2019, 2020, 2023).

The CRAFTSMAN Truck Series is back after a two-week break for the eighth race of the season. Grant Enfinger is the defending race winner and Christian Eckes is the most recent winner at the 1.5-mile track.

Win at Southern National Motorsports Park Was First of Gilliand’s Career

 MOORESVILLE, N.C. (May 1, 2024) – Todd Gilliland is going back to his roots for the May 12th NASCAR Cup Series Throwback race at Darlington Raceway. Gilliand’s No. 38 gener8tor Ford Mustang Dark Horse, honors the car Gilliand won in the inaugural CARS Tour Late Model Stock Tour race at Southern National Motorsports Park in Kenly, North Carolina March 28, 2015.

“It’s really cool, definitely a lot of hard work and sweat had gone into this car,” Gilliland said. “I was just a 14-year-old kid trying to get experience with the dream to race in the Cup Series and taking it step-by-step. This car makes me think about all the memories made along the way and my journey to Cup and to even race at Darlington for throwback weekend.”

The then 14-year-old, drove the number 98G Core Power / Country Chevrolet Ford machine to victory, racing for his father, former Cup Series and Front Row Motorsports driver, David Gilliland and David Gilliland Racing. The Cup Series scheme will carry the iconic red “G” next to Gilliland’s No. 38.

“It’s incredible to see this scheme on Todd’s car going to Darlington for the throwback weekend,” David said. “It was a super special car back then when we raced and it was only a dream then for him to race in the Cup Series. Now to watch him race in the Cup Series with this scheme when we were just dreaming about him making it to this level is super special. I can’t wait to be there to take a picture next to it and watch it hit the track.”

Todd only led three laps in the 150-lap event, passing Deac McCaskill for his first ever CARS Tour win. Gilliand would go on to race seven more times in that 2015 season, garnering two more top-5s and three top-10s. Gilliand would then go on to compete in the ARCA Menards Series and K&N West championship.

Gilliand will be competing in the Goodyear 400 at Darlington Raceway, May 12. The race will be televised at 3:00 p.m. ET on FS1.

EIGHT-CAR FIELD SET FOR THRILLING GETTRX NHRA PRO STOCK ALL-STAR CALLOUT IN CHICAGO

CHICAGO (May 1, 2024) – The field of eight standouts is set for the GETTRX NHRA Pro Stock All-Star Callout, as the star-studded field will compete in the marquee specialty event on Saturday, May 18 as part of the 24th annual Gerber Collision & Glass Route 66 NHRA Nationals presented by PEAK Performance at Route 66 Raceway.

The unique specialty race debuted in the Pro Stock category last year in the NHRA’s return to Chicago and pits eight top drivers against each other with big money and bragging rights on the line. Drivers competed for a spot in the field based on qualifying points since last year’s event in Chicago, with a stellar list set to compete this season.

Reigning world champ Erica Enders rolled to the No. 1 spot, with the rest of the car field including, in order, Greg Anderson, Dallas Glenn, Troy Coughlin Jr., Aaron Stanfield, Matt Hartford, Cristian Cuadra and Deric Kramer.

Enders will get the first selection to call out her opening round opponent and if she doesn’t call out Anderson, he gets the next selection, going down the line until the first-round matchups are set. After a can’t-miss opening round, the driver who makes the quickest winning run will select their semifinal opponent, locking in the other matchup.

The first-round callout selections takes place at 12:30 p.m. CT on Friday, May 17 at the Nitro Alley Stage. The first round of the GETTRX NHRA Pro Stock All-Star Callout begins at 11:30 a.m. CT on Saturday, May 18 with the semifinals to follow at 1:45 p.m. and the finals at 2:55 p.m. A special Callout broadcast is slated for 7 p.m. ET on FS1.

With plenty of natural rivalries in the class, along win the callout dynamic, there is plenty of excitement brewing around the specialty event in Chicago. A year ago, Camrie Caruso won the first-ever Pro Stock Callout and another first-time winner will be crowned in the GETTRX Pro Stock All-Star Callout in 2024. It’s a loaded field, led by Enders, motorsports’ winningest female and a six-time world champion, as well as current points leader and five-time world champ Greg Anderson, who has two wins in 2024 and 105 in his career. Glenn, Stanfield, Coughlin and Cuadra are among the sport’s top young talents, while Hartford is the defending U.S. Nationals winner and Kramer is a five-time winner in the category.

After the successful return to Route 66 Raceway last season, the NHRA is thrilled to head back to Chicago on a weekend filled with four rounds of qualifying, a host of special events on Saturday and Sunday eliminations. Clay Millican (Top Fuel), Tim Wilkerson (Funny Car), Glenn (Pro Stock), and Gaige Herrera (Pro Stock Motorcycle) took home race wins last year, while Justin Ashley, Ron Capps and Herrera secured Mission #2Fast2Tasty Challenge titles. The Mission #2Fast2Tasty NHRA Challenge returns in Chicago as well in 2024 in Top Fuel, Funny Car and Pro Stock Motorcycle.

Also slated for the Chicago race will be the special Drag and Drive exhibition event. With star drivers like Alex Taylor and Tom Bailey on hand, this exhibition offers something unique. The standout street cars set to be featured run in the 6-second range and at more than 200 mph, offering a thrilling spectacle for all race fans. The Chicago race will also feature competition in the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series as well as the specialty Congruity NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by LearnEV+, the Flexjet Factory Stock Showdown division, the new Holley EFI Factory X category, as well as the return of the Top Fuel Motorcycle class.

NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series qualifying features two rounds at 2:30 and 5 p.m. CT on Friday, May 17, and the final two rounds of qualifying on Saturday, May 18 at 11:40 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. CT. Eliminations begin at 11 a.m. CT on Sunday, May 19.

With a difficult season opener behind him, Mark Kvamme hopes to put the familiar purple and yellow Alzheimer’s colors back in Victory Lane

LOS ANGELES (1 May 2023) – With a tough start to the 2024 Porsche Carrera Cup North America season behind them, Mark Kvamme and the Racing to End Alzheimer’s/MDK Motorsports team looks to start fresh in this weekend’s doubleheader – part of the Formula One Crypto.com Miami Grand Prix.

Kvamme and the No. 43 Racing to End Alzheimer’s Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car had a rough ride in the doubleheader season opener at Sebring International Raceway in March, caught up in multiple incidents that left the two-time Masters class champion ninth in points – though with his MDK Motorsports squad leading the team championship.

Having scored victories in both races at Miami last year, Kvamme knows this is a good place to jumpstart his title defense.

“Miami treated us well last year and we’re hoping for more of the same this year,” said Kvamme. “We scored the race one pole and took both wins, in very hot and humid conditions, and there’s certainly no reason to expect this year’s conditions to be any different. As we saw at Sebring, this is going to be another highly competitive season, and I’m ready to get back into the mix – and to help highlight our Alzheimer’s program by putting the purple and yellow colors back out front.”

But for the Racing to End Alzheimer’s team, the on-track action is only half the story. The team’s mission is to increase awareness of this terrible disease while giving families a way to honor their loved ones in a very tangible way – and raising funds for research and treatment. PLANO, Texas (May 1, 2024) – NASCAR’s Cup and Trucks Series head to America’s heartland and Kansas Speedway, where the sport makes its first of two trips this season. They’ll be joined by the ARCA Menards Series, holding their fifth race of 2024.

NASCAR National Series – NCS | NCTS

Points standings beginning to tighten … The Cup Series points standings once again altered following Sunday’s race in Dover. With his third top-five of the season, Martin Truex Jr. remains the lead Toyota Camry XSE, currently second in the standings and only 15 points behind first. Claiming his third win of the season, Denny Hamlin jumped two spots in the standings to fourth, also holding the most Playoff points of any driver with 17. The two are joined by Tyler Reddick (fifth) and Ty Gibbs (eighth) inside the top 10 of the point standings.

Toyota aims to continue Kansas dominance … Kansas Speedway has been a haven of success for Toyota over the last few seasons, where Camrys have been victorious in the last four Kansas races and five of the last six. Hamlin and Reddick provided a Kansas sweep for Toyota in 2023. The nine Camry XSE drivers set to start on Sunday aim to extend the win streak to five.

Second consecutive race for Johnson … Making the fourth start of his part-time campaign in 2024, Jimmie Johnson will once again pilot the No. 84 Toyota Camry XSE for the second consecutive weekend. Sunday will be his 30th start at Kansas Speedway, where Johnson has three wins (2008, 2011, 2015), nine top-fives and 19 top-10s.

Three Toyota Tundras Inside Truck Series Top 10 … After a week off, the Truck Series is back in action at Kansas with three Toyota Tundra TRD Pros inside the top 10 of the series points standings. Corey Heim leads the Toyota contingent in second position, two points out of the top spot. His TRICON Garage teammates, Taylor Gray and Tanner Gray, sit fifth and ninth in the standings with nine races remaining in the regular season.

Moffitt makes 2024 Trucks debut … Longtime NASCAR veteran, Brett Moffitt, makes his season debut in the Truck Series in the No. 1 Tundra TRD Pro with TRICON Garage. Moffitt returns to Team Toyota after capturing the 2018 Truck Series championship and is making his first Trucks start since winning at Talladega last September.

Heim seeks another Kansas top-10 … Coming back to Kansas Speedway, Heim will be looking for his fourth consecutive top-10 finish at the mile-and-a-half, including coming off a fourth-place finish last year. Another top-10 would also make it eight-for-eight for Heim inside the top-10 so far this season.

NASCAR Regional Series – ARCA Menards Series

Quest for four in a row at Kansas … Once the green flag drops for the ARCA Menards Series race on Saturday, Toyota will be seeking its fourth consecutive win at Kansas Speedway and eighth in the last 11 races. Another victory would also mark Toyota’s 21st win in the last 23 ARCA Menards Series events.

In the series’ most recent visit to an intermediate track, the 1.5-mile Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth on April 14, Preece had an impressive performance during which he ran inside the top-10 for a majority of the race en route to a solid 12th-place finish. It was his best career finish at Texas in eight Cup Series starts.

● Sunday’s 267-lap race marks Preece’s ninth Cup Series start at Kansas and his third for Stewart-Haas Racing. He hits the Heartland of America having scored three top-15 finishes in the past four races. Last Sunday at Dover (Del.) Motor Speedway, the driver of the No. 41 Ford Mustang Dark Horse was forced to retire 66 laps into the 400-lap race due to a highly unusual issue with his racecar. A part failure led to smoke engulfing the cockpit, and his 37th-place result marked his first DNF (Did Not Finish) since last August at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway.

● Preece has three starts outside of the Cup Series at Kansas, two in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and one in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. His most recent Xfinity Series outing at Kansas came in October 2018 behind the wheel of the No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing entry. It started well, with Preece advancing from his seventh starting position and moving into the top-five before finished third in the opening stage. But a multicar accident on lap 91 of the 200-lap race took him out of contention, leaving him with a 21st-place finish. In his lone Truck Series start at Kansas with David Gilliland Racing in September 2022, Preece started seventh and earned an impressive third-place finish, collecting 13 stage points along the way.

You had a strong performance at Texas, the most recent mile-and-a-half track on the schedule. Could we see the same type of performance at Kansas?

“I look back at Texas as being our first real mile-and-a-half race of the season. Vegas didn’t give us a lot. Not being able to turn many laps in practice and switching to a back-up car for the race there didn’t give us an opportunity to see what we had for the mile-and-a-half racetracks this season. So, looking back at Texas, I felt pretty good about our race there. We had good speed during the race. Our emphasis for Kansas is qualifying better. If we don’t do that, it makes for a long day, especially when track position is important like it will be on Sunday.”

You’re 11 races into the season and you’ve put together a string of solid runs over the past several races. What changed from the beginning of the season, when things didn’t seem to be going in your favor?

“The potential has always been there for us. If you look at the beginning of the season, there were two superspeedway races with a lot of unknowns, the wreck in practice at Vegas, and the strategy that didn’t work out at Phoenix. Those things didn’t work in our favor, but we’ve certainly had a few strong runs in the past several races, which is what we wanted to do heading into April. Obviously, things didn’t work out as we had hoped at Dover, but I feel like we would’ve had another good car if not for the issue there. We just really need to work on qualifying better to give us a good shot when it comes time to race.”

How is the race craft different at each of the mile-and-a-half tracks?

“Kansas is totally different from the others, just because the outside is the dominant lane. You need to be able to move around and go where they can’t to have a good run there.”

How does the first Kansas race prepare you for that track when the series returns in September?

“It’s a very different mile-and-a-half racetrack. Conditions can definitely be different from the first to the second time we go there. Depending on how cool or warm it is during the race on Sunday, we can take what we learn and apply it the next time we race there in the fall, when conditions are most likely to be on the warmer side. It’s all about what the racetrack gives us on Sunday, and how close those conditions are to what the racetrack gives us in the fall.”

JACKSONVILLE, FL, May 1, 2024 – Racing Prodigy™, a groundbreaking sports, entertainment, and media property making motorsports more accessible, today announced its official plans for Prodigy Week, scheduled to take place at Atlanta Motorsports Park (AMP) May 13-15, 2024. The conclusion of Season 1 Prodigy Racing League™ (PRL™) esports competitions marks the transition for 20 aspiring racers from 10 countries – ages 15 to 45 including two female drivers – who will receive all-expense-paid trips to pursue their dreams of racing real cars professionally. They will compete to be drafted, receiving paid contracts to compete in the PRL real-world racing series beginning this fall.

The racers earned their golden tickets to Prodigy Week either by winning an esports competition on iRacing, RaceRoom or Street Kart Racing, or by being selected by Prodigy Search Committees.
