6 Fundamental Safety Tips For Cyclists To Avoid Accidents On The Road

Photo by Michael Ender on Unsplash

In the United States, more than 2% of fatalities in collisions involving motor vehicles are caused by bicycles. Getting hit by an automobile is one of the most frequent reasons for bicycle accidents. The damage incurred can be severe because a bicycle is much smaller than a car, and the rider is largely unprotected. According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, over 130,000 bicycle accident injuries and fatalities occur each year. Cyclists must adhere to safety precautions to prevent accidents.

This article outlines some safety tips to ensure your safety on the road.

#1. Ride The Right Size Bike:

Making sure you are riding the proper size bicycle is the first step in ensuring your safety on the road. Riding a bicycle that is too small or large will restrict your ability to manage and control the bike properly. When shopping for a new bike, consult the manufacturer’s sizing guide because your height typically determines bike sizes. Ensure you have the appropriate frame size for your height.

#2. Make Yourself Visible:

Communicating with others on the street may require more than hand signals. To signal a lane change or turn, you should look over your shoulder, stop your pedals, and slowly veer to the left or right.

Additionally, you can utilize a few practical strategies to increase your visibility. High-visibility apparel and accessories, as well as headlights and taillights, are great options for increasing visibility. The greater your chance of being seen by drivers, the lower the risk of an accident.

#3. Wear Proper Gear:

According to studies, riders who do not wear helmets are around 14 times more likely to sustain fatal head injuries than those who do. Wearing a helmet while riding your bike will significantly lower your risk of suffering life-altering injuries. In addition to helmets, consider investing in high quality gear like oakley prescription safety glasses, which can shield your eyes from debris, dust and harsh sunlight. Other protective gear such as gloves and bodysuits can also provide safety, especially for long distance rides. Having the right gear can make a huge difference in your safety and comfort during rides.

In the event of a bicycle accident that was caused by another’s negligence, it is crucial to hire a bicycle accident lawyer to protect your rights. Having an experienced advocate on your side will be the difference between winning the maximum compensation and a limited sum. Additionally, if you are riding for long distances, it is advisable to wear other protective gear like gloves and bodysuits.

#4. Stay Away From Car Doors:

Bicyclists that commute on the road face a significant risk from car doors. People in cars frequently open their doors directly into the passageway where your bike passes. The best strategy for avoiding smashing into an opening door is to avoid any areas where a door may be. Whenever you pass a parked car, make sure to leave a gap the size of an open car door. If you must fit through that door zone, proceed with caution.

#5. Watch Your Left Shoulder:

Riding against traffic flow is extremely risky and can result in crashes. Develop the habit of looking over your left shoulder while you ride on the right side of the road. You may prevent accidents that many bikers encounter by looking over your left shoulder.

You can cross the divide between through traffic and turn lanes if you merge early. When a car in front of you slows down to turn, you can pass them instead of getting stuck between the car and the corner.

#6. Double Check Your Brakes:

Make sure your brakes are in good working order before you get on the road. Ensure that your bicycle’s brake pads are in contact with the disc rotors on the wheels. It’s important to take the time to fix any problems before you leave. Before you hit the road, perform a quick test on your front and rear wheels.

Final Thoughts:

Although riding can be a relaxing activity, there are risks involved. Avoid using headphones to listen to music since they can impair your capacity to hear and respond to your environment. You might not be able to hear the horn or screeching tires of a car that is out of control if you have your headphones on. You should stay away from any such distractions to focus your attention on safety.

  • Michigan Momentum: Dillon enters the 24th race of the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season hungry for some solid runs like last weekend’s race at Michigan International Speedway. For the majority of the race, the driver of the No. 42 Chevy raced up inside the top-15 after starting back in 25th, ultimately coming home with a 14th-place result – his best finish since the Coca Cola 600 at Charlotte back in May.
  • From the Drivers Seat: What about returning to Richmond Raceway for the second time this season excites you?

“Richmond is a place I always look forward to coming to. I’ve got a lot of confidence there, have ran a lot of races, and have had some really good finishes. Earlier this year was one of our better races, our strategy didn’t really play out to our liking, but we had a pretty strong No. 42 Chevrolet. I’m excited to go back to this race track for the second time and build off of what we learned in our first race. After having a top-15 in Michigan, we’ve got some good momentum, so hopefully we can keep it rolling this weekend.”

Erik Jones, No. 43 FOCUSfactor Chevrolet Camaro ZL1

-Jones at Richmond Raceway: Making the second stop of the season at Richmond Raceway, Jones enters the weekend with two top-five finishes and eight top-10 finishes with 23 races complete in the 2022 season.

In his 10 previous Cup Series starts at the Virginia short track, Jones has earned one top-10 finish and four top-15 finishes. His best finish in the Cup series is a sixth-place finish during his rookie season in 2017. With four starts in the Xfinity Series, Jones has three top-five finishes and one pole starting position. His best finish in the Xfinity Series is a second-place finish in 2016.

-Media Availability: Erik Jones will be available to the media on Saturday, August 13, 2022, following Cup Series qualifying at the media bullpen located in the Richmond Raceway media center.

  • Focused on Winning: FOCUSfactor will serve as the primary partner on Jones’s Chevrolet Camaro for Sunday’s race at Michigan International Speedway.
  • About FOCUSfactor: FOCUSfactor is sold at America’s leading retailers such as Costco, Wal-Mart, Walgreens, CVS, The Vitamin Shoppe and Amazon.com. FOCUSfactor, America’s leading brain health supplement, is a nutritional supplement that includes a proprietary blend of brain supporting vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and other nutrients. In December 2012, the United States Patent and Trademark Office issued US Patent 8,329,227 covering FOCUSfactor’s proprietary formulation “for enhanced mental function”. The issuance of the patent marked one of the few times a patent has been issued for a nationally branded nutritional supplement. FOCUSfactor is clinically tested with results demonstrating improvements in focus, concentration and memory in healthy adults.
  • From the Driver’s Seat:

“Richmond has been a track where I’ve run well in the past, but with varying strategies through the race, don’t always get the finish I think we deserve. Earlier this season, we qualified top five and lost the handling a little during the race and made some mistakes early. As the race played out with teams on various strategies, things just didn’t work out for us and we finished outside the top 20. Short tracks and road courses have definitely been the tracks where we’ve struggled this year to figure out the best set up and what we need out of the new car. We’ve been working hard to get better on those tracks and I think we’ll be good this weekend. After our strong last week in Michigan, I’m excited to get to the track and continuing to put ourselves in position for strong runs and a chance at the win.”

23XI Racing Renews Agreement with Bubba Wallace

23XI’s Inaugural Driver Signs Multi-Year Deal

Mooresville, N.C. (Aug. 12, 2022) — 23XI Racing announced today that Bubba Wallace has signed a multi-year extension to remain with the team. Wallace joined 23XI in September of 2020 as the team’s inaugural driver, earning 23XI its first NASCAR Cup Series win at Talladega Superspeedway in 2021 and first pole award at Michigan International Speedway in 2022. Wallace, driver of the No. 23 Toyota Camry TRD, has played an integral role in the team’s growth and will continue to do so going forward.

In addition to his on-track accomplishments, Wallace has also been involved in various diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) efforts to expand the NASCAR industry and fan base. Wallace has worked on initiatives such as the Dr Pepper 23XI Speed Institute Tuition Program, Embrace Home Loans’ Wider Path Home/23XI Racing Down Payment Assistance Grant and Bubba’s Block Party, which aims to bring the excitement of NASCAR to a younger, more diverse audience. Through his Live to be Different Foundation, Wallace also gives back to the community through back-to-school backpack drives in the Charlotte area and discussions with Knowledge is Power Program (KIPP) students at racetracks across the country. Additionally, Wallace’s clothing design collaborations with both McDonald’s and Columbia Sportswear Company have brought NASCAR to a new audience.

“Bubba was a key part of the early stages of 23XI, and I am thrilled that he will continue with the team,” said 23XI Racing Co-Owner Denny Hamlin. “When we announced Bubba as our first driver the goal was to help him take his career to a higher level, and we have done just that. Bubba and the No. 23 team earned the organization our first win and first pole award, and with a career-best four consecutive top-10 finishes heading into Richmond this weekend, Bubba is continuing to get more competitive each week. We’re excited to see his growth as he and the team work toward achieving our goals.”

“It feels great to get this renewal done and to know I have a home at 23XI Racing,” said Wallace. “Thanks to M.J. and Denny for continuing to believe in me. We’ve come a long way together in less than two years and we’ve checked off some major goals along the way – including the team’s first win and first pole. We know we still have work to do, both on and off the race track, but I feel good about our team and the direction we’re heading.”

About 23XI Racing

23XI Racing – pronounced twenty-three eleven – was founded by NBA legend Michael Jordan and three-time Daytona 500 winner Denny Hamlin in 2020. With rising NASCAR star Bubba Wallace selected to drive the No. 23 Toyota Camry TRD, the team made its NASCAR Cup Series debut in the 2021 Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway. Wallace made history on October 4, 2021, when he captured his first career Cup Series win, becoming just the second African American to win in the Cup Series, and earning 23XI Racing its first-ever victory. 23XI Racing expanded to a two-car organization in 2022 with Cup Series Champion Kurt Busch driving the No. 45 Toyota Camry TRD.

Banner Day for Borchetta on Streets of Nashville

Scott Borchetta Drives M1 Racecars-Built TA2 Machine to Podium Finish on Home Turf in Big Machine Music City Grand Prix

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (Aug. 12, 2022) – In his 28th race since joining the Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli in 2020, Scott Borchetta earned his first podium finish. His third-place run couldn’t have come at a better time or place – last Saturday’s TA2-class race that was part of the second annual Big Machine Music City Grand Prix weekend on the streets of downtown Nashville, Tennessee, headlined by the NTT IndyCar Series main event on Sunday.

Borchetta, a Southern California native who has called the Nashville area home since he was a teenager, outdueled all but two drivers in the 40-car field in his M1 Racecars-built No. 48 Big Machine Vodka SPIKED Coolers entry. Earlier in the day, he posted his best qualifying effort to roll off third for the 75-minute race on the 2.17-mile, 11-turn street course.

The TA2 race, presented by Big Machine Vodka SPIKED Coolers and Race for RP (Relapsing Polychondritis), will air on the CBS Sports Network at 7:30 p.m. EDT on Saturday, Aug. 13 with an encore broadcast at 1 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 14.

Borchetta, founder of the Big Machine Label Group and owner of Big Machine Distilleries, has been a key component in making the Music City Grand Prix a reality. His racing career began in earnest at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway in the 1990s and he gradually rose to the ranks of the NASCAR SuperTruck Weekly Series, where he won three consecutive championships from 2003 to 2005. After the 2005 season, Borchetta didn’t expect to race again as his every waking moment was being put toward building Big Machine Records.

Enter NASCAR Hall of Famer Ray Evernham. In 2018, Evernham convinced Borchetta to go racing in the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA) and it reignited Borchetta’s love for racing. Now, Borchetta is the reigning SVRA national champion and Group 6 title winner. He has won the season-ending Group 6 championship race at Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin four years running, which led to Borchetta competing in TA2.

“It’s taken a minute, but we finally made it to the TA2 podium,” said Borchetta, whose third-place finish in Nashville eclipsed his previous best effort of fourth, earned in July 2021 at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. “This is such a great event and I couldn’t be happier about getting my first podium here and now.

“We’ve got three races left this season and all of our team’s combined focus will be going toward trying to get that first win. We’ve shown consistency this season and I have to credit my amazing Scott Borchetta Racing Team and, of course, the Lagasses (Scott and Scott Jr.) at TeamSLR with their great M1 Racecars. Everybody has been working so hard and the results are really starting to show.

“It’s really an accomplishment to reach the podium in this series, which is loaded with some of the best sports-car drivers and teams in racing. You have teenagers winning races who will go on to be the future stars of our sport racing alongside seasoned champions. I have to say it’s an honor for me, the elder statesman, to be up here racing competitively with these young racers.”

TeamSLR is the exclusive representative of M1 Racecars, an official TA2 constructor. It builds rolling chassis and complete Chevrolet Camaros, Ford Mustangs and Dodge Challengers for Trans Am competition.

They allow you to protect your motorcycle from the elements and from vandalism, but they also enhance the overall look of your bike, which makes them great at protecting your bike from thieves as well! But how do you choose the right cover? This article will explain everything you need to know about waterproof motorcycle covers.

What are the main features of these motorcycle covers?

A waterproof motorcycle cover is a great way to keep your bike protected from the elements. These covers are made from a variety of materials, including PVC, polyester, and nylon. They typically have a UV-resistant coating to protect your bike from the sun’s harmful rays. Waterproof motorcycle covers are available in a variety of sizes to fit most bikes. Some features to look for in a cover include grommets for tying down the cover, reflective stripes for safety, and vents to prevent condensation.

Does your bike need an ultra-waterproof motorcycle cover?

A motorcycle cover is an important accessory for any bike, but especially so if you live in an area with a lot of rainfall. The cover will protect your bike from the elements and keep it looking new for years to come. There are many different types of covers on the market, but if you’re looking for the best protection possible, you’ll want an ultra-waterproof cover. Here’s what you need to know about this type of cover.

How do you select the right motorcycle cover for your bike?

When it comes to selecting a motorcycle cover, there are a few things you’ll want to keep in mind.

  1. Consider the climate you live in and the weather conditions you typically ride in. If you live in an area with a lot of precipitation, you’ll want a cover that can stand up to rain and snow.
  1. Think about the size and style of your bike. You’ll want a cover that’s large enough to fit over your entire motorcycle, including any attached accessories. And finally, consider your budget. There are a variety of covers available at different price points, so select the one that fits your needs and budget best.

Why would you recommend a 420D waterproof motorcycle cover?

You already know that your motorcycle needs to be covered when it’s parked outside, but you may not know why. Here are five reasons why you need the best motorcycle cover for your bike to protect it from the elements, keep it shiny and clean, and prolong its lifespan.

1) It keeps you safe

No matter how careful you are, accidents can happen. And when they do, you want to make sure you’re protected. That’s where motorcycle insurance comes in. It can help pay for repairs or replacements if your bike is damaged or stolen. Plus, it can give you peace of mind knowing that you’re covered in case of an accident.

2) Protects your investment

Your motorcycle is a big investment, and you want to do everything you can to protect it. A good motorcycle cover can help protect your bike from the elements, keeping it looking its best, so be sure to protect your pride and joy with a motorcycle cover. A cover can also help deter thieves, as it makes it more difficult for them to access your bike. Plus, a cover can help keep your bike clean, meaning you won’t have to wash it as often. In short, a motorcycle cover is a worthwhile investment that can help you keep your bike in great condition.

3) Keeps dirt and dust off your bike

One of the most important things a motorcycle cover can do is keep your bike clean. It does this by preventing dirt and dust from settling on your bike in the first place. This is especially important if you live in an area with a lot of dust or pollen. Not only will a cover help keep your bike clean, but it will also help prolong its life by preventing wear and tear.

4) Prevents damage from extreme temperatures

Your motorcycle is an investment, and you want to protect that investment from as many risks as possible. One way to do that is by using a cover designed specifically for motorcycles. A good motorcycle cover will protect your bike from damage caused by extreme temperatures, whether it’s hot or cold outside.

5) Protects from theft

If you have a motorcycle, you need to get a cover for it. Here are five reasons why:

1. A cover protects your bike from theft. If you park your motorcycle on the street, it is vulnerable to being stolen. A good cover will deter thieves and make it more difficult for them to steal your bike.

2. A cover protects your bike from the elements. Rain, snow, sleet, and hail can damage your motorcycle. A cover will keep your bike dry and protected from the elements.

3. A cover protects your paint job. The sun can fade your paint job over time. A cover will keep your paint job looking new for longer.

4. A cover protects your saddlebags and other accessories.

Or when bad weather hits and you need to take shelter? That’s where a waterproof motorcycle cover comes in handy. Here are the top five reasons why you need one

5 Biggest Mistakes You Can Make When Choosing a Bike Cover

Choosing the right bike cover can be overwhelming, with so many brands and models to choose from that it can be hard to know where to start. But don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Here are five big mistakes you can make when choosing a bike cover and how to avoid them so that you get exactly what you need!

1) Not using a cover

If you don’t use a cover, your bike is vulnerable to the elements. Water can rust and damage your bike, while sun and heat can cause the plastic and rubber components to degrade. Dust and dirt can also accumulate, making it harder to clean and maintain your bike. Plus, if you live in an area with high crime rates, not using a cover leaves your bike at risk of being stolen.

2) Not getting full coverage

You might be tempted to get a bike cover that doesn’t fully cover your bike. After all, it’s just going to be sitting in your garage, so what’s the harm? Well, the reality is that any little bit of exposed metal can start to rust and wear down over time. A full bike cover will give you peace of mind knowing that your bike is fully protected from the elements.

3) Failing to clean it

Your bike cover will be constantly exposed to the elements, so it’s important to choose one that can withstand wear and tear. But even the most durable cover won’t last long if you don’t take care of it. Be sure to clean your cover regularly with soap and water.

4) Buying cheap covers without features you need

If you’re looking to save a few bucks, you might be tempted to buy the cheapest bike cover you can find. However, this could be a mistake if the cover doesn’t have the features you need. For example, if you live in an area with lots of rain or snow, you’ll want a cover that’s waterproof and breathable. Otherwise, your bike could rust or mildew. Similarly, if you live in a hot climate, you’ll want a cover that protects against UV rays. Otherwise, your bike could fade or even become damaged from the sun’s heat.

5) Not caring for it once you have it

You finally have the bike cover of your dreams. But, just like any other item you own, it needs to be cared for if you want it to last.
