Pocono is such a unique track, especially with that treacherous tunnel turn — so I’ve got to make the most of every lap, from the start of practice through Stage 3, to learn as much as I can and put us in position for a solid finish.”

On Racing Pocono Raceway Like a Road Course: “From watching past race footage, it definitely looks like my road course experience will come in handy, especially in the high-speed, high-commitment corners. The fundamentals of technique are very similar, but taking a truck right to the limit is incredibly nuanced, and nothing truly prepares you for that except seat time in the real thing.

“It’s wild to see how Pocono has road course-style corners yet still races like a traditional NASCAR oval because of the bump-drafting and the battles between the high and low lines.

“I’d even say it looks like classic oval racing on starts and restarts, but once things get single-file and stretched out, it starts to resemble road racing again. Very interesting dynamic!”

On Pocono Raceway Goals: “I’d love to get some of our recent momentum back and leave Pocono Raceway with a lead-lap, top-15 finish. Even if we fall a bit short of that, a solid top-20 would still give us something to build on.

“The goal is to keep pushing forward and keep the Young’s Motorsports team in the spotlight as we head into the heart of the summer stretch.

What has been the biggest challenge for you at Pocono Raceway?

“Pocono Raceway is a challenging track from the standpoint of trying to get all three corners tied together with the racecar. It’s tough on the drivers, and tough on the crew chiefs. You’re never going to be completely comfortable with Pocono Raceway because you’ve got to be able to deal with an issue in one of the three corners. Our No. 3 Bass Pro Shops/Winchester team will do a very good job of trying to get a happy medium between all three, but I think the Tunnel Turn is probably the most important.”

Now that we’re this far into the season, is there still room for points racing, or is winning races the primary goal?

“Victory is the main goal every weekend, but you also want to consistently move forward in the point standings, and earning stage points is a good way to try and do that. A win locks you into one of those coveted top 16 spots. We’re going to do what we can to bring more speed to the racetrack, and try to create opportunities, both to earn stage points, and to find Victory Lane.”

“I was pleasantly surprised to see such a good crowd at Pocono Raceway the last couple of years. I do believe it has to do with us only going there once a year. When we go to some of these tracks twice a year, fans will decide which one they want to go to Instead of just knowing that they only have one chance to go so they better get their tickets as soon as they can.”

There’s a lot of shifting at Pocono Raceway. Would you be in favor of NASCAR making a rules change to limit that or is that something that you enjoy?

“Since Pocono Raceway is so big and with the three corners being as different as they are, it needs shifting. I think shifting at Pocono is an okay thing.”

Jesse Love and the No. 2 Whelen Chevrolet at Pocono Raceway… Jesse Love has made one career NASCAR Xfinity Series start at Pocono Raceway, coming last season behind the wheel of the No. 2 Whelen Chevrolet. The 20-year-old has also competed in two ARCA Menards Series races at the “Tricky Triangle”, crossing the finish line first in 2023. During that race, Love started from the second position, led 40 of 60 laps, and captured the victory.

Points Check… Through 15 races, Love continues to hold the fourth position in the Xfinity Series driver championship point standings – 28 points behind third-place Sam Mayer.

What makes Pocono Raceway tricky?

“You go really fast at Pocono Raceway. It’s the fastest place we go. It’s so hard to pass there. You are already on the edge, but when you enter the corner side-by-side with someone, especially in the tunnel turn, it gets really sketchy without being put in a bad aero position. You have to have a lot of commitment to do well there, and your car needs to be just right to have confidence in it. It is one of my favorite race tracks. I’ve had success there in the past and got to bring home an eagle trophy one time. It’s the only trophy on display in my house. Hopefully, our Whelen Chevrolet will be dialed in, and we can go get another eagle to have a buddy for my other one.”

With Pocono Raceway having three different corners, which is your favorite?

“Pocono has three different corners, with none of them being the same. Turn 1 is probably my favorite. Turn 3 is my least favorite, and I love Turn 2 for what it is. It’s a cool place to go to and compete at. It’s one of the most challenging tracks in the sense that you have to be committed. You have to have confidence when you make a lap by yourself, so when you do it with cars all around you, it’s almost impossible. Give and take will be necessary to have a shot at the win.”

Austin Hill and the No. 21 Global Industrial Chevrolet at Pocono Raceway… Austin Hill has made four career NASCAR Xfinity Series starts at Pocono Raceway, claiming his first victory at the 2.5-mile speedway in dramatic fashion while piloting the No. 21 Global Industrial Chevrolet in 2023. The Winston, Georgia native also has eight NASCAR Truck Series races on his resume at the Long Pond, Pennsylvania track, earning one pole, two top-five, and three top-10 finishes.

What’s the biggest challenge with racing at Pocono Raceway?

“All three corners. Pocono Raceway is unlike any other track we go to during the season. It’s three different turns that have no similarities. We have the longest straightaway that we go to all year, which leads to Turn 1 that has a big compression and a lot of banking. You can get back to the throttle early, but you will slip and slide at times. After the next straightaway, you go into the tunnel turn, which is a short, flat corner. The surface is rough and bumpy. Then you go into Turn 3, which is long and flat. It’s a long left-hander that feels like it takes minutes to get through. With all three corners being different, it’s a hard task for the crew chiefs and engineers to get the balance right. No matter how good your car is at Pocono, it’s never going to be perfect in all three corners. There is going to be something that you have to give up in order to gain in the others. It’s not called ‘The Tricky Triangle’ for no reason.”

Todd Gilliland and the No. 34 team travel north to Long Pond, Pennsylvania, for the “Tricky Triangle” — Pocono Raceway. While this will only be Gilliland’s fourth NASCAR Cup Series start at the 2.5-mile track, the 25-year-old driver has four previous starts there in the CRAFTSMAN Truck Series, where he earned four top-10 finishes, including one top-five.

● Critical Summer Stretch: Pocono Raceway continues a pivotal nine-week stretch that will help shape the NASCAR Xfinity Series Playoff picture ahead of the postseason opener at Bristol Motor Speedway in September.

The series will visit a wide variety of tracks over the coming weeks, offering a mix of challenges and styles. The stretch includes the 2.5-mile Pocono Raceway this weekend, a return trip to the hybrid superspeedway of EchoPark Speedway, the Chicago Street Course and another road course at Sonoma Raceway in Northern California.

● Harrison Burton NASCAR Xfinity Series Pocono Raceway Stats: Saturday afternoon’s Explore the Pocono Mountains 250 will mark Harrison Burton’s third NASCAR Xfinity Series start at the unique triangular track nestled in the Pocono Mountains.

Burton returns to Xfinity Series competition in Long Pond for the first time since 2021, looking to shift his fortunes and make the most of his opportunity.

He earned a track-best of 32nd after starting 10th in the 2021 edition of the Pocono Green 225, driving for Joe Gibbs Racing.

He returned to the track a month after his initial start, winning the pole but finishing 37th following a crash on Lap 36 of 90.

Additionally, Burton carries an average Xfinity track finish of 34.5.

Also, the Huntersville, N.C. native has three NASCAR Cup Series starts at Pocono Raceway, with a track-best of eighth after starting 26th in the 2023 edition of the HighPoint.com 400, while driving for Wood Brothers Racing.

● Harrison Burton NASCAR Xfinity Series Career Stats: Entering Pocono, Burton has 90 career NASCAR Xfinity Series starts to his credit with four wins, 27 top-five and 55 top-10 finishes, and a championship-best result of eighth, twice in 2020 and 2021, respectively.

Burton’s four wins in the NASCAR Xfinity Series occurred during the 2020 season. Sporting the AirBox colors for the first time in 2025, Harrison Burton showed promise early with a solid 17th-place effort in practice. However, he settled for the 22nd-fastest lap in time trials.

From the drop of the green flag, Burton faced an uphill battle with track position and an early race spin. Still, crew chief Danny Efland orchestrated a strong strategy that vaulted the team into the top five during Stage 3.

Berry, eero Team Seek Right Combination for the ‘Tricky Triangle’

Pocono Raceway’s unique 2.5-mile layout has earned its nickname — “Tricky Triangle” — thanks to its three distinctly different turns that challenge even the most experienced drivers and teams.

For Josh Berry and the No. 21 eero Ford Mustang Dark Horse team, the focus this weekend is on dialing in a setup that finds the right balance across all three corners to be a contender in Sunday’s Great American Getaway 400.

“Each corner at Pocono is so different,” Berry said. “Turn Three is probably the most difficult since it leads onto the long straightaway, and getting off there strong can make a big difference – getting your car turned well enough to have good drive off and carry speed down the straight is important. But you can’t give up too much in the other corners either.”

Staying up front throughout the race is probably more important at Pocono than at most other tracks on the Cup Series circuit.

“Track position is key,” Berry said. “Being up front and staying up front really matters, not just for clean air, but to avoid trouble. It’s a place where strategy and execution both have to be spot on.”

The Wood Brothers have a strong history at Pocono, having earned three Cup Series victories at the Pennsylvania track — David Pearson in 1975, Neil Bonnett in 1980 and Ryan Blaney in 2017.

On-track action for the Great American Getaway 400 begins Saturday with practice at 12:35 p.m. ET, followed by qualifying at 1:45 p.m. ET. The 160-lap, 400-mile main event will go green shortly after 2 p.m. ET on Sunday, with Stage breaks scheduled for Laps 30 and 95. Coverage will air all weekend on Prime Video.
