Motorcraft/Quick Lane Team Optimistic Heading Into Atlanta

#21: Josh Berry, Wood Brothers Racing, Motorcraft / Quick Lane Ford Mustang

After being collected in an early crash in the season-opening Daytona 500 this past Sunday, Josh Berry and the No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane team will try to rebound this weekend in the Ambetter Health 400 at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

AMS, which measures 1.54 miles in length, is no longer the typical intermediate-length race track it once was. A reconfiguration in 2021 saw the banking in the turns increased from 24 to 28 degrees and the width of the corners decreased from 55 to 40 feet and the backstretch dropped from 55 feet wide to 42. Between the changes and the rules package used there, Atlanta now races much like the superspeedways at Daytona and Talladega with large packs of cars the norm.

Miles Stanley, crew chief on the No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane Mustang Dark Horse, said that while racing at AMS will resemble the action at Daytona and Talladega, there will be differences.

“The start of the season this year is unique with Atlanta immediately following Daytona – two superspeedway-style races back-to-back,” Stanley said. “Coming out of Daytona, we anticipate some similarities in the draft and strategy, but I also expect handling to play a bigger role this time around.”

Stanley said he sees lots of positives as he and the team prepare for this weekend’s 400-miler.

“While we didn’t get the finish we wanted at Daytona, the speed we showed throughout the week – combined with the strong performance of the Fords at Atlanta in recent years – gives us confidence heading into the weekend,” he said.

And, over the years, Atlanta has been a good track for Stanley’s car owners, who this year are celebrating 75 years in the sport. The Wood Brothers have run 115 races at Atlanta, with 12 wins, nine poles, 33 top-five and 47 top-10 finishes.

There will be no pre-race practice this weekend, and qualifying is set for Saturday at 11:30 a.m., with TV coverage on Amazon Prime. Sunday’s 260-lap, 400.4-mile race is scheduled to get the green flag just after 3 p.m. with Stage breaks planned for Laps 60 and 160. FOX will carry the TV broadcast on Sunday.

Madeline Stewart Returns to JDX Racing for 2025 Porsche Carrera Cup Season

Stewart Part of the Colorado-Based Team’s Porsche Single-Make Effort for the Third Consecutive Season

LOVELAND, Colorado (February 20, 2025) – Madeline Stewart returns to JDX Racing for a second season in Porsche Carrera Cup North America, with the New Zealand-born driver continuing her racing career in the United States.

Stewart has been a regular for JDX since moving to Indianapolis in 2023 to expand her career opportunities, starting with Porsche Sprint Challenge North America where she finished third in a 992-generation Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. She moved with JDX Racing to Porsche Carrera Cup North America as a rookie in 2024, where she finished 15th in a competitive championship.

She came to grips with the championship in the second half, finishing in the points in six of the final eight races and returns to a championship, including a series of tracks, that she’s now familiar with entering this season where she’ll remain a part of the Porsche Mobil 1 Female Driver Program.

“I’m really excited to be back with JDX Racing for another season and to continue building on the progress we made last year,” Stewart said. “Staying with the same team gives us great consistency, which is huge in a championship as competitive as this. Last season was all about learning—getting comfortable with the car, the tracks, and the level of competition. Now, with that foundation in place, we’re setting bigger goals and pushing to be even more competitive every weekend. Having now raced at every track on the calendar, I feel much more prepared, and that experience will be a big advantage. The team has been working hard in the off-season, and I know we have everything we need to take the next step.”

The season opens officially at Sebring International Raceway, March 12-14, with a doubleheader in support of the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, but actually begins with the official series test in early March at the same track.

“We’re thrilled to have Madeline back with us for a second season in Porsche Carrera Cup,” JDX Racing team principal Jeremy Dale said. “Carrera Cup is the most difficult and competitive GT development series in North America, and Madeline worked very hard last year to improve and was able to continuously learn from the start of the season. There were so many times we could see the huge potential she has, and that was proven in her results. We are planning for another leap forward straight from round one in 2025.”

The Porsche Carrera Cup season features 16 races across eight weekends, including three in support of the Formula One races at Miami, Montreal and Circuit of the Americas. Stewart’s season will include support from JDX Racing partners Byers Imports and Porsche Columbus.

“I’m incredibly grateful to Harrison Brix and Jeremy Dale for making this opportunity possible and for believing in me,” Stewart said. “A huge thank you as well to all of the sponsors who have come on board for the 2025 season. I can’t wait to get back on track and get to work.”

Stewart is the third of four drivers confirmed for the 2025 season, joining Sabré Cook and Paul Bocuse in the line-up.

JDX Racing has been a stalwart of Porsche Carrera Cup North America since its inception in 2021, and in the Porsche GT3 Cup championship prior to that. The team claimed the driver’s championship with Parker Thompson in 2022 and has been a multi-time winner in each season of the championship.

Each round of the Porsche Carrera Cup North America season is available live, through the subscription streaming service Peacock as well as IMSA.tv, and IMSA’s YouTube Channel.

Kyle Larson, driver of the No. 5 Chevrolet, on racing at Atlanta Motor Speedway: “I haven’t had much success on drafting-style tracks, but I really enjoy racing at (the recently reconfigured) Atlanta. It’s a lot different than racing at Daytona and Talladega, and I hope the No. 5 HENDRICKCARS.COM team can put together a complete race and grab a solid finish.”

Chase Elliott, driver of the No. 9 Chevrolet, on racing at Atlanta Motor Speedway: “It is my home track. I always look forward to racing there. I’m really happy that we have two dates at Atlanta. I think that it’s a track that made a large investment to try and improve their product. And I think they have successfully created a lot of chatter, you know, down there around the racetrack and around the events. And I hear it and I see it firsthand, which I don’t typically see and feel that firsthand from other racetracks. But being from around the area, you run into people that went and they’re like, ‘man, that was awesome,’ you know, the finish at the race last year or whatever it was. So, I think that their investment has ultimately paid off. Selfishly, I think it’s great that they have two races because I don’t have to go as far to go to the track, which is great. But in all seriousness, I do think that it is a good thing (that they have two races), and it’s resulted in some great finishes for our sport. I hope that we can continue to put on the good racing that it has been over the last two or three trips or more now.”

William Byron, driver of the No. 24 Chevrolet, on heading to Atlanta Motor Speedway after a DAYTONA 500 win: “Yeah it’s a short week for our group, for a good reason, but I still think we’re ready for Atlanta. I think you’re going to see similar racing to what we saw this past weekend and probably another crazy finish. I really think Atlanta has become one of the best tracks we have.”

Alex Bowman, driver of the No. 48 Chevrolet, on returning to Atlanta Motor Speedway: “I’m excited to head to Atlanta this weekend. I feel like we have some good momentum coming off Daytona with a strong points day and good finish. Last year in the Atlanta spring race, it wasn’t our best showing but we really improved in the fall and have that notebook to build off of now. With no practice, we will see how we unload.”

Having partnered with Riggs in his rookie season in 2024, Northside Hospital will again serve as the primary partner of Riggs and the No. 34 Ford F-150 team. Northside Hospital leads the U.S. in newborn deliveries and is among the state’s top providers of cancer care, sports medicine, cardiovascular and surgical services. VICE Sports will televise 13 live events in prime time this year, kicking off with BYB 37 Denver Brawl IV this Saturday, February 22 at 9 PM ET. BYB will have the distinction of being VICE TV’s first live sports event series as the 40M plus subscriber cable television network continues its programming shift to a sports-first model. “BYB Bare Knuckle Boxing is excited to partner with Layne Riggs on his No. 34 Ford F-150 this weekend in Atlanta,” said Mike Vazquez, President, BYB Bare Knuckle Boxing. “Layne closed 2024 on a tear and started 2025 the same way, running in or near the top five all night in Daytona. He’s a great racer and fine young man, and we wish him the best as he sets out to knock out the competition at the Atlanta Motor Speedway.”

“I have a good feeling about this weekend,” said Riggs. “Chandler (Smith) and I showed a lot of speed in Daytona, and we worked well together as drafting partners. I think we can do the same thing again this weekend. We just need to execute and be there in the end when it matters. It’s cool to see Northside Hospital return, and it’s also cool to see BYB join in on the fun too. Hopefully, I can take them both to Victory Lane.”

“Atlanta is my home track, its where I learned to race and fell in love with the sport,” said Smith. “I have a lot of great memories there and it’s always nice having my family come to the track. Layne (Riggs) and I worked well together at Daytona, and I expect the same thing this weekend in Atlanta. Hopefully I can qualify upfront and have a clean race. Bonanza Cabernet and Haas Factory Team Partner for 2025 NASCAR Season

NAPA VALLEY, Calif. – February 20, 2025 – Iconic wine producer Caymus Vineyards proudly announces its 2025 NASCAR Cup Series partnership with Haas Factory Team. The family-owned and operated winery will feature Bonanza, its heralded California Cabernet Sauvignon, on the No. 41 Ford Mustang Dark Horse of Haas Factory Team driver Cole Custer.

The 2025 season marks Caymus Vineyards’ 12th year of NASCAR involvement and its third with the Haas Factory Team organization. In 2024, the Napa-based winery celebrated its 50th Anniversary with a special primary livery at the Sonoma Raceway event in June, while later adorning the No. 41 Ford Mustang with its eye-catching Bonanza Cabernet primary paint scheme at Las Vegas and Homestead in October.

Bonanza Cabernet was created by Chuck Wagner of Caymus Vineyards, with the wine’s name inspired by the “bonanza” of the great state of California, home to diverse vineyard land where delicious Cabernet can be produced.

“We’re proud to partner with Haas Factory Team, and we’re excited to have Bonanza Cabernet ride along with 2023 NASCAR Xfinity Series Champion Cole Custer as he makes his return to the Cup Series,” said Karen Perry, Executive Vice President of Caymus Vineyards. “Gene Haas has his own heralded track record, and his ongoing commitment to putting quality race teams on the track in both Formula One and NASCAR makes him a great partner for our winery. What excites us most is the pursuit of excellence – whether in winemaking or on the track. We look forward to continuing to engage racing’s most passionate fanbase with Bonanza Cabernet.”

Since initially connecting in 2023, Caymus Vineyards has expanded its role with the Haas Factory Team organization. In 2025, the winery will continue to have a prominent presence, featuring Bonanza Cabernet on the lower rear quarter panel of the No. 41 Ford Mustang and branding on the driver’s firesuit. Additionally, the Bonanza Cabernet primary livery will be featured at the EchoPark Automotive Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas on March 2nd and at the South Point 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on October 12th.

“Caymus Vineyards and the Wagner family have a long history in NASCAR, and we have a shared passion for excellence, making them the ideal partner for our team,” Custer said. “Caymus makes exceptional wines under a range of labels, and Haas Factory Team is dedicated to building competitive racecars. I’m excited to have them on board, and I look forward to driving the No. 41 Bonanza Cabernet Ford Mustang at Circuit of the Americas in March and at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in October.”

About Caymus Vineyards

The Wagner family has a long history in Napa Valley dating back to the 1850’s. Through the years, they have embraced a hands-on work ethic and are constantly trying out new ideas in pursuit of making exceptional wines. Whether it’s venturing to different regions to find diverse sources of top-quality grapes or experimenting with new farming techniques, the result is a pairing of tradition with innovation, a respect for the old with the promise of the new. In celebration of their dedication to agriculture, The Wagners proudly released their 50th vintage of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon in June 2024.

Chuck Wagner and his late parents, Lorna and Charlie Sr., started Caymus Vineyards in 1972. They were a family of farmers who worked together for decades to create a signature style of Cabernet Sauvignon. Today, the family’s Napa Valley Cabernet and Special Selection are among the region’s most celebrated wines. Chuck now works alongside two of his children, Charlie and Jenny, and the family produces diverse wines from Napa Valley, other parts of California and beyond. Continually pursuing new ideas, they feel extremely fortunate to spend their days farming grapes and making wine. Chase Briscoe hit with major penalty

Photo by Patrick Sue-Chan for SpeedwayMedia.com

A new season brings the return of penalties.

NASCAR announced, Wednesday, that it handed Chase Briscoe and his No. 19 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota team an L2 penalty for modifying the spoiler. In violation of rule 14.5.8.A: Spoiler (modification of a single source supplied part).

As a result, Briscoe and his team lost both 100 driver and owner points and 10 playoff points. Furthermore, the No. 19 team owes NASCAR $100,000. This penalty drops Briscoe from 10th to 39th in points at -67, and 89 behind 16th in points. Moreover, NASCAR suspended crew chief James Small for the next four points-paying Cup Series races. Barring an appeal, he’ll be out until the Straight Talk Wireless 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

At press time, Joe Gibbs Racing hasn’t announced if it will appeal the penalty.

Briscoe’s car, along with Austin Cindric’s No. 2 Team Penske Ford, was taken by NASCAR to the R&D Center in Concord, North Carolina.

In addition to Briscoe’s team, NASCAR issued safety-level penalties to Todd Gilliland’s No. 34 Front Row Motorsports Ford and Cody Ware’s No. 51 Rick Ware Racing Chevrolet for improperly secured ballast. Which amounts to a 10-point penalty driver and owner points.

Xfinity Renews Partnership with 23XI Racing

Partnership Extends to Naming Rights With Debut of the Xfinity Speed Center

Huntersville, N.C. (Feb. 19, 2025) – 23XI Racing announced today a renewal of its partnership with Xfinity and unveiled the newly-named Xfinity Speed Center. Located at Airspeed, 23XI Racing’s state-of-the-art NASCAR facility, the Xfinity Speed Center serves as a communications hub where team personnel can connect in real time with crew members at the track during race weekends. The Xfinity Speed Center helps 23XI perform with speed and reliability while maximizing input from team members, whether at the track or at Airspeed.

While there is no substitute for having certain members of the competition team at the track, the Xfinity Speed Center offers a valuable resource for those who don’t travel with the team each weekend. Through shared radio channels, messaging tools, and real-time data, the team in the Xfinity Speed Center can reliably communicate with the at-track team as decisions are made related to adjustments, strategy, or repairs. The Xfinity Speed Center also offers the benefit of a controlled environment where the team can evaluate data and collaborate on solutions away from the many outside stimuli at the track. Between races, the Xfinity Speed Center remains essential to team development, providing the pit crews with a space to review film as they prepare for each event.

“Each member of our competition group at 23XI plays an important role in our race preparation and execution,” said Dave Rogers, Senior Director, Competition. “The ability for key personnel to digest data and provide insight throughout race weekends regardless of their location is vital to our success. We’re fortunate to have great partners like Xfinity who share a passion for racing and understand how important fast and reliable connectivity is for our team.”

Additionally, with the partnership renewal, Xfinity will continue to be featured at select races this season on the No. 23 and No. 45 Toyota Camry race cars driven by Bubba Wallace and Tyler Reddick, respectively. 23XI and Xfinity will again work in tandem on content creation and continue offering unique fan experiences through Xfinity Rewards, including 23XI Pit Box VIP access and driver meet-and-greets. Xfinity will also serve as a presenting sponsor of one Intersect event, a consumer and community engagement event targeted to reach multicultural and underrepresented audiences within the sport of racing.

“Since our partnership with 23XI Racing began, we’ve worked closely to drive innovation and excellence for the team both on and off track,” said Jess Muir, Senior Director, Brand Partnerships and Amplification at Comcast. “This extension underscores our commitment to supporting 23XI Racing’s growth, engaging our fans in new and meaningful ways, and providing Bubba Wallace and Tyler Reddick with the resources they need to excel on race day.”

“When we announced our partnership with Xfinity in 2023, we wanted to collaborate on initiatives to drive progress and innovation, and the Xfinity Speed Center is a great example of that,” said 23XI Team President Steve Lauletta. “With the expansion of our partnership, we can continue working on innovative ideas, compelling content, and creative programs to enhance our race team and enhance the fan experience.”

About 23XI Racing

23XI Racing – pronounced twenty-three eleven – was founded by NBA legend Michael Jordan and three-time Daytona 500 winner Denny Hamlin in 2020. With rising NASCAR star Bubba Wallace selected to drive the No. 23 Toyota Camry, the team made its NASCAR Cup Series debut in the 2021 Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway. Wallace made history on October 4, 2021, when he captured his first career Cup Series win, becoming just the second African American to win in the Cup Series, and earning 23XI its first-ever victory. 23XI expanded to a two-car organization in 2022 with Cup Series Champion Kurt Busch driving the No. 45 Toyota Camry. With a win at Kansas Speedway in May of 2022, Busch earned 23XI the team’s first-ever playoff berth. In 2024, Tyler Reddick won the Regular Season Championship and raced to a spot in the Championship 4, a first for both the team and Reddick. 23XI currently features the lineup of Bubba Wallace in the No. 23 Toyota Camry, Tyler Reddick in the No. 45 Toyota Camry and Riley Herbst in the No. 35 Toyota Camry. The team operates out of Airspeed, a state-of-the-art facility in Huntersville, N.C. that opened in January 2024.

TEAM CHEVY NASCAR RACE ADVANCE: Atlanta Motor Speedway

TEAM CHEVY ADVANCE
Atlanta Motor Speedway
February 22-23, 2025

With the 2025 NASCAR season officially in full swing, there is no rest for the drivers and teams in the sports’ national divisions as all three series will gear up for a trip to Atlanta Motor Speedway for back-to-back weekends of superspeedway racing.

Coming off a strong showing at the “World Center of Racing”, Chevrolet carries the momentum to yet another drafting-style circuit that has fared well for the Bowtie brigade in recent years. In three years of competition on Atlanta’s reconfigured surface, Chevrolet continues to be the only manufacturer to have found victory lane in all three national divisions – entering the weekend with four Cup Series wins, four Xfinity Series wins and two Truck Series wins.

CHEVROLET AT ATLANTA MOTOR SPEEDWAY:

Chevrolet is the winningest manufacturer at Atlanta Motor Speedway across all three NASCAR national series with 45 all-time Cup Series wins, 21 Xfinity Series wins and 11 Truck Series wins.

In NASCAR’s top division, Kurt Busch drove the No. 1 Chip Ganassi Racing Chevrolet to the victory in the series’ final race on the track’s old configuration (July 2021). Undergoing a massive reprofiling shortly thereafter, the Bowtie brigade picked up right where they left off with Hendrick Motorsports teammates, William Byron and Chase Elliott, sweeping the wins at the 1.54-mile Georgia venue during the 2022 season. In six races since the reconfiguration, Chevrolet has earned four checkered flags – most recently one year ago with Trackhouse Racing’s Daniel Suarez, who took the triumph in a history-making three-wide photo finish with Ryan Blaney and Kyle Busch.

In the Xfinity Series, Chevrolet has amassed four wins in six races on the reconfigured circuit – all of which have been earned with Richard Childress Racing’s Austin Hill. The 30-year-old Winston, Georgia, native is always an automatic favorite when it comes to superspeedway-style races, and his recent success at his home track of Atlanta Motor Speedway proves just that. Hill has finished no worse that second in five of his six starts since the track’s reprofiling.

In the Truck Series, the Bowtie brand will look to go three-straight at Atlanta Motor Speedway this weekend. The manufacturer’s most recent Truck Series triumph at the track came in Feb. 2024 with two-time Cup Series champion, Kyle Busch, behind the wheel of a Spire Motorsports-prepared Chevrolet. The victory marked Chevrolet’s 11th Truck Series win at the Georgia oval – moving the manufacturer to the top of the all-time wins leaderboard at the track. The 39-year-old Las Vegas, Nevada, native will have the opportunity to defend his race winning title this weekend, with the Team Chevy driver jumping back into the Spire Motorsports entry for his first of five Truck Series starts of the season.

 RELIVING HISTORY

The 2024 season delivered some of the closest, and even record-breaking, finishes in NASCAR history across all three national divisions. On that list includes the NASCAR Cup Series’ first of two appearances at the 1.54-mile Georgia venue last season. Daniel Suarez’s first-career oval victory in NASCAR’s premier series did not come without a fight. Taking the white flag, fellow Chevrolet driver, Kyle Busch, maneuvered his No. 8 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet to the middle lane between Suarez and Ryan Blaney. Exiting the final corner gridlocked side-by-side, it was Suarez who was able to edge his Chevrolet across the line first by a margin of 0.003 seconds over runner-up Blaney and 0.007 seconds over third-place Busch – setting the record for the closest three-wide finish in NASCAR history.

 NEXT GEN NUMBERS

Heading into the Atlanta race weekend, Chevrolet owns a winning percentage of 63 percent in superspeedway-style racing in the Next Gen era. Hendrick Motorsports’ William Byron is the most recent driver to add a tally to the manufacturer’s win count after becoming just the fifth driver in history to become a back-to-back DAYTONA 500 champion. The crown jewel triumph marked Chevrolet’s 12th win in 19 superspeedway races in the Next Gen era. Byron is one of seven drivers from four different Chevrolet organizations that have earned a trip to victory lane in the Next Gen Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. The reigning DAYTONA 500 champion leads the series with four superspeedway wins in the Next Gen car, two of which have come at Atlanta Motor Speedway (July 2023; Feb. 2024).

RCR DUO PROVING SUPERSPEEDWAY POWER

Richard Childress Racing continues to be an automatic frontrunner when NASCAR hits a drafting-style track. At Daytona International Speedway last weekend, an unfortunate mechanical issue ended Austin Hill’s streak at three-straight in the Xfinity Series’ season-opener race. But Hill’s teammate, Jesse Love, was able to keep Richard Childress Racing on top by earning the victory and the series’ first playoff berth. The win marked Love’s second career Xfinity Series victory, with his first also coming at a superspeedway in his rookie season (Talladega Superspeedway – Oct. 2024). The 20-year-old Menlo Park, California, native has already tallied five Xfinity Series pole wins in his young career, including both of the series’ events at Atlanta Motor Speedway last season. Hill is a 10-time Xfinity Series winner, with seven coming at a drafting-style track. The Winston, Georgia, native has finished no worse than second in five of his six Xfinity Series starts at the newly reconfigured Atlanta Motor Speedway, including four trips to victory lane.

 REIGNING ROWDY

Kyle Busch will return to the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series for five starts again this season, with the first coming up this weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway. The series’ winningest driver will return to the seat of the No. 7 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet in hopes of going back-to-back at the 1.54-mile Georgia venue. His first of two Truck Series wins last season came at Atlanta Motor Speedway (Feb. 2024) – a victory that earned Chevrolet its now series-leading 11th win at the track. Throughout his storied career, Busch has found success across the NASCAR national ranks at Atlanta Motor Speedway with multiple wins in each division. Busch is one of just four active full-time drivers that is a two-time Atlanta winner in NASCAR’s premier series, while also earning seven Truck Series wins and three Xfinity Series wins at the track.

 BOWTIE BULLETS:

  • Active Chevrolet drivers with a NASCAR Cup Series win at Atlanta Motor Speedway:

William Byron – two wins (July 2023; March 2022)
Kyle Busch – two wins (Sept. 2013, March 2008)
Daniel Suarez – one win (Feb. 2024)
Chase Elliott – one win (July 2022)

  • In 121 NASCAR Cup Series races held at Atlanta Motor Speedway, Chevrolet has recorded a series-leading 45 victories – most recently one year ago with Trackhouse Racing’s Daniel Suarez.
  • Since the reconfiguration of Atlanta Motor Speedway prior to the start of the 2022 season, Chevrolet has been the only manufacturer to reach victory lane in all three of NASCAR’s national divisions – leading the way with four Cup Series wins, four Xfinity Series wins and two Truck Series wins.
  • Since the debut of the Next Gen car in the NASCAR Cup Series in 2022, Chevrolet has won 12 of the 19 superspeedway-style races – recorded by seven drivers from four different Chevrolet organizations.
  • In 109 points-paying races in the Next Gen era, Chevrolet leads all manufacturers with 53 victories – a winning percentage of 48.6%.
  • With its 43 NASCAR Cup Series Manufacturer Championships, 33 NASCAR Cup Series Driver Championships, and 867 all-time NASCAR Cup Series wins, Chevrolet continues to hold the title as the winningest brand in NASCAR Cup Series history.

 QUOTABLE QUOTES:

Ross Chastain, No. 1 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet

Tell us about the evolution of racing at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

“It’s amazing how much Atlanta has changed from the repave, and then to the new version of the car and how much we’ve had to adapt to the new style of racing at Atlanta. It’s kind of wild to think how Atlanta is now a drafting a track but it has created some exciting finishes. You look back at last year’s race with my teammate Daniel’s (Suárez) win and how close that finish was. It’s cool to see the fan’s excited for the racing at Atlanta and I hope to be the guy in victory lane this weekend with the Moose Fraternity Chevrolet.”

Justin Haley, No. 7 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet

“I enjoy Atlanta. The track is really starting to wear, I feel like there’s three grooves now. You really have to put an emphasis on making sure your handling is good. After getting our first race out of the way, we can only get better. I like where the 7 team is at and we are ready to get back out on the track.”

Kyle Busch, No. 8 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet

“Atlanta is kind of a crapshoot race in general with it now being a superspeedway race. It takes a lot of speed, but also a car that handles well to be successful there. You have to pick the right line at the right time to get yourself to get yourself where you can log some laps, especially in the middle stage of the race, and not get caught up in a crash when cars start to handle differently and mistakes are made. The superspeedway style of racing, there’s so many things that can change just in a given lap, let alone that whole race. Races at Atlanta have become ones to remember.”

Ty Dillon, No. 10 Kaulig Racing Chevrolet

“Atlanta Motor Speedway, it’s been quite a different race the past few years since the repave. I feel like every time I’ve gone back there, I’ve gained more and more confidence on how to approach it. It’s not a total superspeedway feeling, but it’s not really a mile and a half race. It’s got its own unique approach to it. You have to be aggressive, but you also have to have a strong car to be able to make the moves you need to make. We came out of Daytona with a strong run and we’re really hoping for the same thing at Atlanta to really catapult our season in the right direction. The first two races are very important for starting on the right foot. So, I look forward to Atlanta. My luck hasn’t been that good, but it’s about time for it to turn around at the racetrack.”

AJ Allmendinger, No. 16 Kaulig Racing Chevrolet

“Coming off Daytona where our race cars were really fast, I’m looking forward to getting to Atlanta as it’s obviously a superspeedway type racetrack. We’ve had success in the past at Atlanta but there’s a lot of unknowns throughout the race. Hopefully, we can go there and have speed like we did in the (Daytona) 500 and have a solid race to rebound from the deficit that we are in now after Daytona. We’ll do all that we can to have a good qualifying effort and try to run up front and have a good finish.”

Ricky Stenhouse Jr., No. 47 Hyak Motorsports Chevrolet

With the track repave prior to the 2022 NASCAR season, Atlanta is now more akin to a superspeedway versus a typical intermediate track. As someone that the sport has labeled a superspeedway ace, would you say this change helped you on a track where you once struggled in the Cup series?

“Yeah, I think so. I mean we won in the Xfinity Series there, and I always felt like that was one of my favorite racetracks. Then, we struggled in the NASCAR Cup Series a little bit. We had some good runs. I mean I really loved the racetrack even prior to the repave. It was one of my favorites that we went to. The repave definitely gives us a better opportunity to win though. We had two really good runs there last year. That was the first time since the repave that I really felt like we got the handling characteristics of our cars back to where they needed to be. I feel like this team has a good handle on the superspeedways and providing a car that is handling well and can hold the throttle down for a longer period of time. That’s where our benefit is. I’m looking forward to getting to Atlanta though. We finished sixth last February, and in the summer race we were really strong and ran up in the top five a lot, so I’m looking forward to it. It’s a fun racetrack for us.”

Shane van Gisbergen, No. 88 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet

Atlanta Motor Speedway is another drafting track like Daytona. How have you been able to learn drafting and what is it like to you?

“You can’t practice that in the simulator (laughs). It’s odd, you do qualifying one lap by yourself and it’s boring, you’re driving around with one hand blocking the air and all that, but when you’re in a pack, you’re doing four or five seconds a lap quicker. It’s unbelievable! Last year in my (Cup) races on drafting tracks, I had two yellow stripes on the back of my bumper, so people were ignoring me, so glad I don’t have that on my Chevrolet this year. But it’s (drafting) cool, once you learn and build a little bit of trust, people get confident around you. It’s a different way of racing.”

Your NASCAR career has accelerated really quickly over the last two years from winning the inaugural Chicago Street Race to now racing full-time in the Cup Series. Were you ready for all of this?

“It was always the plan. I am really glad I didn’t jump straight into Cup last year. It was a great transition year, learning Xfinity and then coming to Cup. I think I would have got eaten alive if I had jumped straight in (to Cup). I feel ready for it this year! The cars are very, very different so it will be a learning year again. Halfway through the year, I want to be pushing forward, especially on the ovals, and try to be towards the front.”

Daniel Suarez, No. 99 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet

Was it fun to rewatch the Atlanta finish for “So Damn Close: Atlanta ’24” Documentary that aired last week?

“It was a lot of fun, even more fun for me, right, because I was the one that won the race. Probably wouldn’t have been that much fun if I finished second or third. In general it was a lot of fun because it was the first time we got to sit down and actually see it together and talk about it, talk about what was on Blaney’s mind, what was in Busch’s mind, in my mind. Obviously everyone had a different mindset of what to do, what not to do.”

Take us through the final laps of your win in Atlanta. Kyle Busch and Ryan Blaney were second-guessing what they should have done. What gave you the confidence to do what you did?

“Honestly, I didn’t have many options because Austin Cindric was the driver that was behind me. He was lifting a lot, just trying not to help me. Obviously his teammate was leading the race at that time. My options were very limited when it came to the second lane, trying to create a run. The No. 47 of Ricky (Stenhouse), he was being very aggressive on the rear bumper of the No. 2. Even with that, I can see it, I can feel it. I was able to see it on Monday after the race on SMT. He was doing everything possible not to help me, which is okay, right? That’s part of the game. I knew the run was not going to come from me, it was going to come from the inside. My job at that point was to try to slow down the 8 (Busch) as much as possible for the No. 23 (Bubba Wallace) to get to him. It’s a chess match a chess game to get to him and build the run. Hopefully I was going to be right there to take advantage of that run. Luckily it worked out like that. Any of us could have won that race. It was a matter of inches. It was just a matter of timing and fortunately the timing worked out good for me.”

Connor Zilisch, No. 88 JR Motorsports Chevrolet

How challenging do you think the racing will be at Atlanta?

“I’ve never been to Atlanta before so it’s going to be tough to get up to speed but I’ve watched races there in the past and seen how it races. It looks like a fun racetrack and I’m excited to get there and really feel it out for the first time. I learned a lot at Daytona and I’m looking forward to this weekend.”

There is no practice time scheduled for Atlanta. What are the challenges with just qualifying and going straight into the race?

“There’s no practice so I’m going straight into qualifying and straight into the race which is different from what I’m used to. It’s going to be the same for everybody. I don’t think it will be too big of a struggle.”

Since you have never raced at Atlanta, how important is it to lean on your teammates (especially Justin Allgaier) for advice?

“All season long it’s going to be important to lean on Justin (Allgaier) and all my teammates who have experience for advice and help. Justin is a veteran in the series. There’s a lot of questions that I’ll have that he will be able to answer throughout the year, especially going to Atlanta for the first time.” especially at Atlanta going there for my first time.”

The Curtain Rises for TeamSLR at Sebring

Five-Car M1 Racecars Lineup Features Defending Pro-Am Champ Barry Boes, Veteran Mike Skeen, and Prodigies Tristan McKee, Corey Day and Carson Brown

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (Feb. 19, 2025) – A power-packed TeamSLR entry of five M1Racecars takes to iconic Sebring (Fla.) International Raceway this weekend to open the 2025 Cube 3 Architecture TA2 Series campaign. Leading the way are returning TeamSLR drivers Barry Boes, the defending TA2 Pro-Am Challenge-class champion, 14-year-old Tristan McKee and veteran road-course racer Mike Skeen, who will be joined by TA2 newcomers Carson Brown and Corey Day.

Saturday’s 27-lap, 75-minute race around the 3.74-mile, 17-turn Central Florida circuit is the traditional first of 12 events on the Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli schedule, and it’s one where Boes hopes to build upon his best season-long effort since joining the TA2 ranks in 2019. The driver of the No. 27 Accio Data/SLR-M1 Racecars Chevrolet Camaro from Ooltewah, Tennessee, drove to seven class victories in last year’s 12 events, starting with the Sebring opener and including a top overall finish of sixth in June at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington. This weekend marks his sixth career TA2 outing at Sebring with a previous-best overall finish of 11th in 2020 en route to eighth place in the overall TA2 championship. He finished 13th overall at Sebring a year ago this weekend. In addition to last year’s Pro-Am title, Boes scored his first career Cube 3 Architecture TA2 Series Western Championship overall victory in July at Portland (Ore.) International Raceway in M1 Racecars equipment. He also scored a fourth-place finish in his No. 27 TeamSLR entry with co-driver Greg Biffle in the non-points SpeedTour All-Star Race July 20 at Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Connecticut.

The young McKee, driver of the No. 28 Spire Gainbridge/SLR-M1 Racecars Chevrolet Camaro, will be making his third official TA2 outing after closing out 2024 competing in back-to-back events at Virginia International Raceway (VIR) in Alton, and the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin, Texas. A Chevrolet development driver, McKee got his first taste of TA2 competition at the age of 13 when he co-drove a TeamSLR M1 Racecars entry with his Team Chevrolet mentor Scott Speed in July’s exhibition All-Star Race at Lime Rock. After turning 14 on Aug. 3, McKee became eligible to compete in officially sanctioned TA2 events and promptly turned in a solid performance at VIR, where he qualified sixth and held position among the leaders en route to a fourth-place finish, just .7 of a second behind the final podium position. At the COTA season finale, McKee was racing for another top-five finish when a cut tire dropped him to the back of the field. He rallied from 37th to finish 15th over the closing laps. The Kannapolis, North Carolina driver recently signed a development agreement with Spire Motorsports and will also contest a part-time CARS Tour schedule in the Late Model Stock class for Matt Piercy Racing. He became the CARS Tour’s youngest winner in the Pro Late Model division as a 12-year-old in 2023.

Brown, a 16-year-old from New London, North Carolina, who’ll take the reins of the No. 8 PayCafe/Ebb Logistics/SLR-M1 Racecars Chevrolet Camaro this weekend, has shown his versatility over his almost five-year racing career, which started in Legend cars and has included Microsprints, off-road trucks, and most recently World of Outlaws and Lucas Oil Late Models. He was last year’s pavement Pro Late Model champion at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida, and earlier this month scored a pair of victories at New Smyrna (Fla.) Speedway in his first week ever competing in Super Late Models.

The 19-year-old Day will make his TA2 debut behind the wheel of the No. 17 Hendrickcars.com/SLR-M1 Racecars Chevrolet Camaro after first making his mark at the highest levels of sprint car competition, then moving through the Late Model ranks to NASCAR and the ARCA Menards Series. He, too, is a Chevrolet development driver and in December signed a multiyear agreement with Hendrick Motorsports. As a 15-year-old in 2021, the native of Clovis, California, became the youngest winner in the USAC National Midget Series, and last year was a five-time winner in the High Limit Racing series. He also was tabbed to drive a Late Model for JR Motorsports last year and promptly scored a dominating victory in just his second start for the team at Hickory (N.C.) Motor Speedway. He competed in four NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series races in 2024 with a best finish of 16th in October at Homestead-Miami Speedway, and added three ARCA Menards Series races with a best finish of fourth in the September race at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City.

Skeen, the 38-year-old former TA2 champion from Durham, North Carolina, will be behind the wheel of the No. 48 Cube 3 Architecture/Guthrie’s Garage/Franklin Road Apparel/SLR-M1 Racecars Chevrolet Camaro for his 36th career TA2 race and second with TeamSLR. His first with the team came last June at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, where he qualified third and was running with the leaders before an electrical gremlin ended his bid late in the race. While this weekend marks just his second race with the team, he’s quite familiar with M1 Racecars equipment. He competed in the chassis during his tour of duty with Peterson Racing, with whom he made 12 starts driving a part-time TA2 schedule in 2022 and 2023. He scored back-to-back victories for Peterson in the 2022 races at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta and WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California, among his five podium finishes in 2022 and 2023. Skeen is also no stranger to the top step of the TA2 podium at Sebring, having kicked off his 2020 series championship run with a Sebring victory. It was his first of six wins and eight podium finishes in nine races during that abbreviated season, all for Stevens-Miller Racing. Skeen is an 11-time TA2 winner, dating back to 2011.

This weekend’s Sebring SpeedTour kicks off with a pair of TA2 test sessions at 11:45 and 4:20 p.m. EST Thursday. Official practice is set for 11:20 a.m. Friday, followed by qualifying at 4:40 p.m. Race time is 12:15 p.m. Sunday with live streaming video coverage provided by new series broadcast partner Speed Sport 1 and via the Trans Am channel on YouTube.

Another pair of M1 Racecars entries fielded by Peterson Racing return to the grid this weekend. Austin Green, the 2023 TA2 Series Rookie of the Year, returns to the cockpit of the No. 89 Peterson entry that he drove to a runner-up finish at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International last August, qualified on the pole at Mid-Ohio in June, and drove to a fifth-place finish at Sebring. Team owner and Masters-class competitor Doug Peterson is back behind the wheel of the No. 87 entry.

In addition to Green’s runner-up finish at Watkins Glen, M1 Racecars was represented on the TA2 podium last year at the traditional Memorial Day weekend race at Lime Rock, where Evan Slater qualified second and finished second for TeamSLR, and at the June race at the Pittsburgh International Race Complex, where TeamSLR driver Carson Kvapil finished third.

Riding along with TeamSLR drivers and their M1 Racecars once again this season is Nashville, Tennessee-based Franklin Road Apparel Company, which has been a longtime team supporter and serves as associate partner on all TeamSLR entries. Also continuing its support of the overall TeamSLR effort is Cube 3 Architecture.

Barry Boes, Driver, No. 27 Accio Data/SLR-M1 Racecars Chevrolet Camaro:

You’re kicking off your second season with TeamSLR wearing the title of defending Pro-Am Challenge champion. Safe to say you feel that has a nice ring to it?

“Oh, it sure does. It’s also a little scary because I know there’s a big old target on my back (laughs). Seriously, it’s definitely the biggest accomplishment of my racing career and, yeah, I never thought I’d be sitting here having accomplished something like this, and now having the opportunity to show that it wasn’t a fluke. I’m definitely a better driver now than I was at this time last year. I’m a better driver now, I think, than I was three races before the end of last year. Everything we’re doing just keeps adding up. That doesn’t mean I don’t have a lot of growth still in front of me, but I’m definitely a better driver than I was coming into this race last year.”

What would you say made last year such a turning point in your career?

“It’s being surrounded by good people, and that’s a big deal, right? This is a group of people working together so that we can all win, and this type of thing has only ever happened to me under the Lagasse tent. We get the NASCAR kids who come in here who are 10 times as good as me, or the guys who are up and coming and have way more raw talent but just need the experience, and we all work together and we’re all learning how to help each other.”

Looking ahead to this coming season, what would need to happen in order for you to consider it a success?

“More finishes in the top-10 overall, and a couple of finishes in the top-five. There are so many good people that I think an overall podium finish would probably take a lot of things going my way, like it did for me at Detroit a couple of years ago, but getting in the top-five is something that I ought to be able to do.”

Tristan Mckee, Driver, No. 28 Spire Gainbridge/SLR-M1 Racecars Chevrolet Camaro:

You had your first taste of TA2 competition at last year’s final two regular-season races, plus a solid outing in the All-Star Race at Lime Rock last May. How do you feel about kicking off the new season at Sebring?

“I’m excited. I feel like Sebring is one of my favorite road courses, for sure. I’ve driven quite a lot of laps around there in TA2 cars, so I’m looking forward to it. We were fast there during the (January) test, and now we’re going back to kick off the 12-race season just trying to get as many wins and experience as possible, and chase after a championship.”

How much do you feel those races at VIR and COTA last fall prepared you for the 2025 season?

“I think the two races I did at the end of last year prepared me a lot, my first in the TA2 Series with all these really good road racers, and it was really cool. We had a good finish at VIR, and we were running good at COTA until we had a tire go down, but I think those prepared me really well, so I know what to expect going into all the races this year, especially Sebring. It’s a big track, so I’m really looking forward to it. TeamSLR has prepared me well, and so has Scott Speed back at the (Chevrolet) Tech Center. They prepare me for every race and they do a really good job.”

You mentioned Sebring is your favorite road course thus far. What do you like about it?

“Well, I’ve heard it hasn’t been repaved or touched up since 1990 or so, which makes it super rough – it was an old airport. The backstretch is rough. Turn 17, the last corner, is rough. But I really love it. It’s all concrete, so it has quite a decent amount of grip. It’s just a really fun track, the first track I ran a TA2 car at, too. There are some decent passing zones, a long front straightaway and a long back straightaway. And then great braking zones in turn seven and turn 10, as well. The track is just amazing, it’s so cool. We’ll have 39 cars out there this weekend. It’s going to be just like COTA with tons of cars, so we’ll have to qualify well.”

Carson Brown, Driver, No. 8 PayCafe/Ebb Logistics/SLR-M1Racecars Chevrolet Camaro:

You’ll be competing in TA2 for the first time in your relatively young career, which started in Legend cars and has taken you to primarily oval events on dirt and asphalt. What brings you to Trans Am and TeamSLR?

“Well, I kind of like bouncing around from car to car and surface to surface. I like doing asphalt, and then dirt, and now road courses. I’m still young and I’m trying to develop and just get better. I know a lot of young guys going road-course racing in Trans Am, and I know that’s kind of a big part of the Chevy program. I’ve never really raced road courses since my Legend car days, so we reached out and talked to Lorin Rainier at Chevrolet and he said that TeamSLR was the place to go. We talked to the team and ended up having a really, really good conversation. Now we’re here, we’ve tested twice, and I feel like we’ve got a lot of momentum going into Sebring looking for a good race, just some clean laps, run every lap and hopefully it ends up with a good finish, too.”

What have been your impressions of working with TeamSLR so far, and what do you think of the track at Sebring?

“Working with the Lagasses and the crew, I mean, they’re really good people and really cool. They rely heavily on reading data, and talking me around the track on the radio. One of the things that I want to get better at is learning how to read data. The team has just has a really strong atmosphere and gets stuff done. It’s been really good so far. Sebring has a lot of character, I figured that out really quickly. Sebring’s really the first true road course that I’ve ever driven on. I learned that it was an airfield from a long time ago, so it’s pretty rough. I don’t really have much to compare it to, so it’s definitely a unique track to start out at, but the place is really cool.”

What will have to happen for you to consider it a successful weekend at Sebring?

“A successful weekend will be just to get all the laps in, first of all, and just have a good, clean race, bring the car home in one piece, and just run and qualify well. One thing I’ve never truly done is qualify on a road course, so that’s going to be a lot different than how you qualify on asphalt or dirt. It’ll be interesting to learn. Overall, it’ll be about getting in the groove of things as far as how Trans Am goes about their ways and just trying and get a good finish in the process.”

Corey Day, Driver, No. 17 Hendrickcars.com/SLR-M1 Racecars Chevrolet Camaro:

You had a chance to take part in the January Trans Am test days at Sebring. What are your impressions of TeamSLR’s M1 Racecars, and navigating a road course, in general?

“I think the cars are awesome. They’re a blast. Sebring’s pretty tough, but the road-course stuff is fun. I get the sense I’m driving the car hard, like I do a dirt car, which makes it fun, whereas with the oval stuff, you lift a lot. The cars are cool. I was surprised the first time I drove it, how well it changes directions and that sort of thing. I mean, it’s a lot different because I’m not used to turning right, so that’s a change. I’m glad to be able to do it.”

How would you describe working with the Lagasses for the first time?

“It was good. Scott Sr., did a really good job helping me at Sebring. I mean, that’s just a really tough place and I’m used to four corners, not 17, so he did a good job at just helping me put it all together. Scotty’s run some dirt stuff, so he can really relate everything in my terms, better than me just trying to figure out the pavement terms. I’ve had a good time with both of them, for sure. I’m not up to speed as much as I want to be, yet, but I’m a racecar driver and I want to win, of course, in whatever I do. So it’s going to take a lot of work for me to get there because it’s just way different than what I’m used to. But I’ve got faith that I’m in the best place to get to where I want to be with the Lagasses.”

You’ll be one of 39 cars entered in Saturday’s TA2 race, your first. Your thoughts on that?

“It’s going to be big chaos (laughs). I don’t think there’s any race in the world that could start 39 cars and not have some sort of chaos if everyone’s trying to win, you know? If everyone’s out there riding around, it’d be a different story, but everyone’s trying to win, so I’m sure it’ll be chaos for me. It’ll be figuring out what’s going on for probably the first half of the race, but I’m excited. Qualifying is definitely going to be important.”

Mike Skeen, Driver, No. 48 Cube 3 Architecture/Guthrie’s Garage/Franklin Road Apparel SLR-M1 Racecars Chevrolet Camaro:

What are your overall thoughts as you head to Sebring this weekend for your second outing with TeamSLR? You had a strong debut with the team at Road America last June and help make up a stout, five-car entry this time around.

“I am really looking forward to getting back to racing this year in the Trans-Am TA2 category. It offers some of the best battles, and I know that TeamSLR will provide a top-level car to compete at the pointy end of the field. Many people have come together to make this race happen – Cube 3 Architecture, Guthrie’s Garage, and Franklin Road Apparel – and I’m thankful to have them on board. Just hope that we can build enough interest to stay on the grid all season.”

What do you feel will be the key to surviving this weekend’s race on such a grueling track and part of a large field of 39 TA2 entries?

“The size of the field really doesn’t matter if you’re able to keep most or all of it behind you (laughs). But it’s great to start the new TA2 season with such a strong field. It demonstrates the strength of the series, and there’s no more challenging circuit around to test everyone’s skill and equipment.”
