Joey Logano won the NASCAR Cup Series pole Saturday with a 168.521 mph lap at Darlington Raceway. He will lead the field to green for the Cook Out Southern 500 Sunday evening in the first race of the Playoffs.
The 32-year-old Dillon from Welcome, North Carolina, became the 15th different competitor of the 2022 season to win and clinch a spot for the Cup Series Playoffs.
The reigning NASCAR Cup Series champion overtook teammate Chase Elliott and led the final five laps en route to his second victory of 2022 at The Glen.
Chase Elliott finished third in the M&M's Fan Appreciation 400 at Pocono, but was awarded the win when first and second place winners Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch were disqualified.
Elliott started on the pole and swept all the stages, taking the win with a pass for the lead on Corey LaJoie with two laps to go. It was Elliott's third win of the season, and he leads the points standings.
The two-time Xfinity Series champion from Corning, California, led the final 16 laps and muscled away from Elliott en route to his first win in his 92nd start in NASCAR's premier series.
