After an incredibly eventful Speedweeks, here is what was surprising and not surprising from NASCAR’s first and one of the biggest races of the season, the 57th annual Daytona 500.
Following a restart with 19 laps to go, Joey Logano was able to put himself in position to challenge for the lead in the Daytona 500. He would then take charge of the top lane, bringing it to the front, taking the lead with nine laps to go. The caution would fly five laps later for an incident between Justin Allgaier and Ty Dillon. Logano would then hold off the field in the final charge to the flag, leading the field into turn three as the caution waved for a big wreck on the backstretch.
Looking to contend for the championship this season in the XFINITY Series, Ty Dillon would start off his season on a strong note by finishing third in the Alert Today Florida 300.
Kurt Busch’s latest attempt to overturn his suspension by NASCAR was denied Saturday evening. His appeal was heard by Bryan Moss, the National Motorsports Finals Appeals officer. Moss’s decision is final and cannot be appealed within NASCAR.
Following a crash during the Alert Today Florida 300, Kyle Busch will miss the Daytona 500. The crash saw Busch hit a wall that was not protected by a SAFER barrier.
The 2023 Cup Series champion from High Point, North Carolina, led a race-high 171 of 263 over-scheduled laps and capped off a dominant run from pole position by sweeping all stages and surviving an overtime attempt for his second Cup victory of 2026 at EchoPark Speedway.
Bobby Gossett (No. 44 BSI Racing) might have thought lady luck was not on his side at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park on Saturday when his provisional pole time was disallowed, but she made herself known in the race.
