RCR NXS Race Recap: Portland International Raceway

Jesse Love and the No. 2 Whelen Chevrolet Team Rebound from Mid-Race Damage to Capture Top-10 Result at Portland International Raceway

Finish: 10th
Start: 10th
Points: 4th

“The Whelen team never gave up today. Portland wasn’t a great race for us last year, so we basically did a 180 coming back here. I thought it was better for sure, and we learned a lot throughout the day. Our No. 2 Chevrolet struggled to get the power down in Turns 2 and 12, but overall, we showed a lot of speed in the first half. We got contact from the No. 18 which damaged our right rear fender. After that, the car was loose on the backstretch and draggy down the frontstretch. The guys fixed it the best they could under the last stage break, and we restarted deep in the field. Just kept our heads down and made up ground to finish inside the top-10. I’ve worked really hard on the road courses the last couple of seasons and I think that helped when it mattered most.” -Jesse Love

Austin Hill and the No. 21 Bennett Transportation & Logistics Chevrolet Team Lead Closing Laps and Earn Fifth-Place Finish at Portland International Raceway

Finish: 5th
Start: 3rd
Points: 5th

“One of these days, this No. 21 team is going to win a road course race. We have come close so many times and today was no different. Our Bennett Transportation & Logistics Chevrolet had speed and was one of the top two cars. During the first stage, we needed more turn in the right handers, and I was willing to give up a little on the lefts to get more on the rights. Chad (Haney, crew chief) made good adjustments in the break, and we definitely made gains during Stage 2. The car was still tight in the right handers in the closing laps, but we were in the hunt. The No. 88 was obviously the best car, but we were able to hang with him on the final restarts. The overtime one didn’t go as planned and I’m frustrated to not get the job done, but I’m still extremely proud of this team. We are gaining momentum at the right time of the season, and we’ll be ready for the Playoffs in a couple weeks.” -Austin Hill

PORTLAND, Ore. (August 30, 2025) – Joe Gibbs Racing driver William Sawalich finished a career-best second in the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Portland International Raceway on Saturday evening. Sawalich had a solid weekend overall as he also won the ARCA West race at the track on Friday.

With one race remaining, Taylor Gray remains in a solid position to make the NASCAR Xfinity Series Playoffs as he holds a 60-point advantage heading into the final race of the regular season – World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway, just outside of St. Louis – next weekend.

Finishing Position: 2nd

What is the emotion like being as close as you were to your first win?

“Not too bad. It is a career-best and the team had a good day. We had a good SoundGear GR Supra – it was as fast as Xfinity Mobile. Just kind back-and-forth all day. We didn’t have the fire off speed that we wanted, but our long run speed was on par with the 88 (Connor Zilisch) – from what I know. I’m not sure if he was taking it easy or what, but we had a good day. We finished P2, so I’m pretty happy.”

Cooper Shipman Continues Win Streak, Taking Race 2 at CTMP

#14 Cooper Shipman, Kiwi Motorsport, winner

BOWMANVILLE, Ontario, Canada (August 30, 2025) – Cooper Shipman extended his Formula 4 United States Championship presented by Mosport Karting Centre (F4 U.S.) win streak, taking the victory in Race 2 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP) on Saturday afternoon. In one of the most action-packed races this season, the top four engaged in tight racing and close battles all afternoon, with Shipman (No. 14 Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F422) having to overcome the charges of his championship rivals to eventually emerge with the victory.

Clemente Huerta Raab (No. 17 Velox USA / Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F422) led the field to green after setting the fastest lap in Race 1. Shipman lined up to his outside, but Kekai Hauanio (No. 29 N-E-Where Transport / Crosslink Motorsports Ligier JS F422) and Alex Popow (No. 55 Dr. Michael Thompson MS DDS PPLS / MLT Motorsports Ligier JS F422) put on an early charge, with Hauanio moving to second and Popow to third on the opening lap, while Shipman fell to fourth.

Keeping a level head, it only took Shipman five minutes to restart his forward progress, moving back into third and then setting his sights forward. Meanwhile, Hauanio looked toward Huerta Raab, closing in on the Chilean to take the point. His lead, however, was short lived, as side-by-side racing between Hauanio and Huerta Raab allowed Shipman to reach their gearboxes. Shipman made his way around both drivers to pace the field and begin opening a gap as the clock ticked down.

Behind him, Hauanio, Huerta Raab and Popow continued to dice it up. The trio raced three-wide down the front straight, with Popow racing wide to claim second, and Huerta Raab using the inside line for an overtake. Hauanio was able to slingshot past Huerta Raab in the following corner, and the three raced nose to stern toward the checkered flag. With the white flag in sight, Huerta Raab got loose entering Turn 1, losing control and sailing into the tire barrier. As a result, the safety car brought the field to the checkered flag, with Shipman taking the win, Popow following in second, and Hauanio in third.

Notes of Interest:

  • Cooper Shipman won his sixth race of the 2026 season while extending his championship points lead.
  • With six-consecutive victories, Cooper Shipman is now tied with 2017 F4 U.S. Champion and current INDYCAR Driver Kyle Kirkwood for the second-longest win streak in F4 U.S. history. Cameron Das holds the record with eight-consecutive victories.
  • Alex Popow finished second to record his seventh podium of 2025. The Venezuelan American finished on the podium in both of today’s events.
  • With a third-place result, Kekai Hauanio secured his ninth podium of the year. Hauanio remains second in the point standings, now trailing Cooper Shipman by 40 points.
  • Luke Powers (No. 51 Corporate Commercial Group / Toney Driver Development Ligier JS F422) earned a career-best finish with his fourth-place result.
  • Three teams were represented on today’s podium, with Kiwi Motorsport securing the victory, MLT Motorsports taking second, and Crosslink Motorsports finishing third.

“It was a bit of a chaotic start,” said Shipman after climbing from the car. “I knew the guys behind me were going to be aggressive with me and try and shuffle me back, but I stayed calm, stayed consistent and made my way back through the field. Then, I controlled my race from the front. I have to thank all of Kiwi Motorsport, Teena [Larsen], Garry [Orton], and both my parents for supporting me and getting me this far.”

F4 U.S. will finish out their weekend at the Labour Day Weekend Sprints tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. ET. The race will stream live on SpeedTour.TV, and live timing and scoring will be available on the Race Monitor app. Additional news and updates from the weekend will be posted on the series’ Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Paul Menard Earns Second Canadian Tire Motorsport Park Victory

Canadian Drivers James Beaton and Roberto Sabato Claim Wins in XGT and Pro/Am Challenge

BOWMANVILLE, Ontario (August 30, 2025) ― The Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli returned to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP) and was once again met with exciting battles and results affecting championship hunts. In the TA class, defending champion Paul Menard scored his second-consecutive win at the Bowmanville, Ontario track, while rookie Tristan McKee tallied his third CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series victory in four races. Toronto-born Roberto Sabato found vindication at his home track, winning in the CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series Pro/Am Challenge after an early crash took him out of contention last season. Finally, Ontario native James Beaton earned the win in the XGT class with his second-consecutive victory in the class.

Notes of Interest:

  • Paul Menard earned his fifth victory of the 2025 season and his second-consecutive CTMP win, extending his points lead in the TA class.
  • Tristan McKee padded his points lead with his third victory of 2025. McKee also tops the Rookie of the Year and Young Gun Award standings.
  • With 15-year-old McKee, 17-year-old Sam Corry and 21-year-old Tyler Gonzalez in the top three, the average age of the CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series podium was 17.6.
  • Nitro Motorsports claimed second through fifth in TA2.
  • Roberto Sabato scored his second-consecutive victory after taking the checkered flag at Watkins Glen International last month. Sabato was born in Toronto and his team, 6th Gear Garage, is based in the area.
  • James Beaton, who hails from Manotick, Ontario, claimed the victory in XGT, and also earned his second checkered flag in a row after winning at Watkins Glen.
  • Many competitors on the podium paid their respects to Pro/Am Challenge competitor Barry Boes, who passed away last week in an aviation accident.

Polesitter Chris Dyson controlled the start of the race in his No. 16 GYM WEED Ford Mustang and showed incredible speed as he led the first six laps. Unfortunately, a tire issue required a pit stop the following lap, and he relinquished the lead and dropped to the back of the TA class. From there, last year’s winner Paul Menard (No. 31 Pittsburgh Paints/Menards Ford Mustang) took over the point position. Behind him, Adam Andretti (No. 17 TOP LINER Chevrolet Camaro) remained tight on his bumper, closing in to attempt the pass multiple times, but he was unable to close the deal. A late-race restart caused commotion for the TA competitors in the front of the field, as a miscue resulted in both Dyson and Tomy Drissi (No. 8 Trench Shoring Co./Motul Chevrolet Camaro) getting penalized for jumping the start. As the race reached its conclusion, the running order sorted out, and when the checkered flag waved, Menard led Andretti and Drissi over the finish line. Amy Ruman in the No. 23 McNichols Co./Valley Automotive Group Chevrolet Corvette was scored fourth and Dyson finished fifth.

“It was an eventful race,” said Menard. “It’s always great to come back up here to Canada. There’s great race fans, and seeing the crowd all the way around the track and the support that we get with the series is amazing. I had a great car all weekend. We didn’t have to adjust on the car much, just little tweaks here and there. You know, [Chris] Dyson got us in qualifying, and he kind of set sail at the start. I thought I had a tire rub, but I was smelling the smoke coming from his car. Once he had his issue, it cleared up for us. We had a little power steering issue and the restart was crazy. We’re chipping away. Adam [Andretti]’s keeping us honest week in and week out. 3GT just does an amazing job every week. On to Virginia.”

TA Results:

  1. Paul Menard, No. 31 Pittsburgh Paints/Menards Ford Mustang
  2. Adam Andretti, No. 17 TOP LINER Chevrolet Camaro

  4. Amy Ruman, No. 23 McNichols Co./Valley Automotive Group Chevrolet Corvette

After securing the pole in yesterday’s qualifying session, Tyler Gonzalez led the field to green in his No. 10 Nitro Motorsports Toyota Camry. Gonzalez controlled the race for the first five laps, but a tire issue required the leader to drop to pit road before the beginning of lap six. From there, second-place starter Tristan McKee (No. 28 Spire/Gainbridge/SLR-M1 Chevrolet Camaro) took over the point position and remained unchallenged for the remainder of the race. Sam Corry (No. 70 Nitro Motorsports Toyota Camry) had advanced from his fourth-place starting position to follow McKee across the finish line. Remarkably, Gonzalez, who had dropped to the very back of the field when he went to pit road but remained on the lead lap, was able to take advantage of the late-race caution bunching the field and picked his way through his competitors, ultimately rising to

claim the third podium spot. Julian DaCosta (No. 30 Nitro Motorsports Toyota Camry) crossed the finish line fourth, and Gian Buffomante (No. 95 Nitro Motorsports Toyota Camry) finished fifth.

“It was a really good race,” said McKee atop the podium. “Obviously, the No. 10 had some issues there, so it’s unfortunate for them, but once we got past them, we controlled the race and just maintained. Everyone was kind of worried about some tire issues there throughout the whole race, and throughout practice, we knew some people had some issues, so that was all a thought in the back of our minds. My TeamSLR guys brought me a really fast Chevy, so props to them. They worked hard this weekend getting this car dialed in. Had a lot of changes since the past race, so it feels really good to be just as fast as we were after the changes. Thank you to Gainbridge, HendrickCars.com, Franklin Road Apparel and everyone at Spire. They prepared me really well to come to this race, and I’m thankful to all of them.”

CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series Top Five:

  1. Tristan McKee, No. 28 Spire/Gainbridge/SLR-M1 Chevrolet Camaro
  2. Sam Corry, No. 70 Nitro Motorsports Toyota Camry
  3. Tyler Gonzalez, No. 10 Nitro Motorsports Toyota Camry
  4. Julian DaCosta, No. 30 Nitro Motorsports Toyota Camry
  5. Gian Buffomante, No. 95 Nitro Motorsports Toyota Camry

Hometown driver Roberto Sabato (No. 61 6th Gear Garage Ford Mustang) led from flag to flag in the CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series Pro/Am Challenge, but he was not without challenge from Jared Odrick (No. 00 Black Underwear/CoolBoxx Chevrolet Camaro), who remained on his tail throughout the race. Odrick made a move in the final corner of the final lap, but it was not enough. Sabato captured his second-consecutive win of 2025, followed by Odrick and Keith Prociuk (No. 9 HP Tuners/Cope Race Cars Ford Mustang).

“First, I’d like to thank CUBE 3, Trans Am, and Mosport for having us back,” said Sabato. “My team, guys, you were unbelievable. Thank you. To my competitors, unbelievable. This is a humble win, because if Barry [Boes] was here, the podium might look a little bit different. It was a great race, such a clean drive. It’s great redemption from last year, getting bumped in the third lap, to come back here again this year and actually be able to finish and win. Thank you.”

TA2 Pro/Am Podium:

  1. Roberto Sabato, No. 61 6th Gear Garage Ford Mustang
  2. Jared Odrick, No. 00 Black Underwear/CoolBoxx Chevrolet Camaro
  3. Keith Prociuk, No. 9 HP Tuners/Cope Race Cars Ford Mustang

As the only competitor in the XGT class, James Beaton (No. 82 Playtime Hot Rods & Motorsports Chevrolet Corvette) stood atop the podium in today’s event. He recovered from a mid-race off in which he nosed into the wall, and then recovered from a late mechanical issue to still finish the race, earning his second-career Trans Am victory.

“Well, it started off pretty good, and then we sort of overheated the tires after about 10 laps,” said Beaton. “From then, we just tried to make sure we didn’t mess with too many other people’s races, and hopefully, I didn’t. So, after that, it was just surviving to the end. I’ve got to thank my wife at home; for 38 years, she has been letting me do this. We have two beautiful kids and two beautiful grandkids. And of course, thanks to the crew.”

XGT Results:

KALITTA, TODD, ANDERSON & GADSON WIN MISSION #2FAST2TASTY CHALLENGE AT INDY

Force, Beckman, Anderson and Herrera remain No. 1 qualifiers at Cornwell Quality Tools NHRA U.S. Nationals

INDIANAPOLIS (August 30, 2025) – Top Fuel veteran Doug Kalitta won the Mission #2Fast2Tasty Challenge for the fifth time this season on Saturday at a packed Lucas Oil Raceway Indianapolis Raceway Park, defeating Clay Millican in the final round of the specialty race as part of this weekend’s prestigious Cornwell Quality Tools NHRA U.S. Nationals.

J.R. Todd (Funny Car), Greg Anderson (Pro Stock) and Richard Gadson (Pro Stock Motorcycle) also won the Mission #2Fast2Tasty Challenge, while Brittany Force (Top Fuel), Jack Beckman (Funny Car), Anderson and Gaige Herrera (Pro Stock Motorcycle) remained the provisional No. 1 qualifiers at the 14th of 20 races during the 2025 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series season.

Selections were made for the first round of Sunday’s PlayNHRA Funny Car All-Star Callout. No. 1 seed Austin Prock selected Cruz Pedregon, while Beckman picked Bob Tasca III. Ron Capps chose Daniel Wilkerson, leaving Matt Hagan and J.R. Todd as the other matchup.

Kalitta’s dominance continued in the bonus race, running a Saturday-best 3.730-seconds at 332.92 mph in his 12,000-horsepower Mac Tools dragster to power past Millican in the finals. The former world champion had already clinched the season crown in the Mission #2Fast2Tasty Challenge entering the weekend, but Kalitta added a little icing on the cake with Saturday’s triumph.

Between Kalitta and teammate Shawn Langdon, the duo won 10 of the 13 bonus races in 2025, an impressive performance in the regular-season specialty race capped off by Kalitta’s dominant win on Saturday.

“That was really cool, especially down at the end. Mr. [Juan] Gonzalez [of Mission Foods] was down there, so that was very cool,” Kalitta said. “We definitely appreciate what Mission Foods does for the NHRA, and the cool part is being able to race before race day and it’s good for the drivers too, to have an opportunity to race.

“It didn’t seem like a lot of cars were getting down the track, and I was thinking, ‘If anybody can get my car down the track, it’s Alan [Johnson] and Mac [Savage] and all these Mac Tools/Toyota guys on my car.’ It went straight down through there, so I was very, very happy to see that.”

Force’s blast of 3.666 at a track-record 339.79 from Friday easily held up in her 12,000-horsepower Cornwell Quality Tools dragster, as the two-time champion stayed in line to earn her fourth No. 1 qualifier of the season and the 56th in her career. Jordan Vandergriff stayed in second with his 3.683 at 333.33 and T.J. Zizzo remains third thanks to his 3.695 at 333.08.

In Funny Car, J.R. Todd made it a Kalitta Motorsports sweep for the Mission #2Fast2Tasty Challenge on Saturday, defeating Austin Prock in a wild final round when the points leader and reigning world champion went red.

That handed the victory to Todd, who earned his second specialty race win of the year in his 12,000-horsepower DHL Toyota GR Supra. It’s also the second straight bonus race win at Indy for Todd, who can make it a historic weekend with a Callout victory tomorrow and a U.S. Nationals win on Monday.

Todd defeated Jack Beckman earlier in the day with a strong run and will now get focused on trying to take down Hagan in the opening round of the Callout on Sunday.

“I heard him go, and I was about to go at the same time, and caught myself, and then thought, ‘I think he red-lit, and saw my win light come on,” Todd said. “We’re definitely having some luck on our side, racing two JFR cars and neither of them make it to the finish under power. That’s pretty wild. I wish this was Monday and this happened.

“It’s our goal to win three races in one week, so that was a step one. Dickie [Venables, crew chief] said he was just trying to find the limit, and I like his approach, being aggressive. He wants to be aggressive, and the car is responding to the changes he’s making.”

Matt Hagan finished the regular season as the Mission #2Fast2Tasty Challenge winner, earning 16 bonus points for the Countdown to the Championship.

Beckman stayed at the top in his “Brute Force” tribute car thanks to Friday’s 3.865 at 332.26 in his 12,000-horsepower Peak Chevrolet SS. He is looking for his fifth No. 1 qualifier this season. Ron Capps is second thanks to a run of 3.877 at 331.69 and Alexis DeJoria stayed third after going 3.891 at 329.02.

Pro Stock’s Greg Anderson enjoyed a stellar Saturday, winning his second straight Mission #2Fast2Tasty Challenge and taking the overall specialty race championship in the process, defeating Erica Enders in the final round with a run of 6.523 at 210.14 in his HendrickCars.com Chevrolet Camaro.

He stayed as the No. 1 qualifier thanks to Friday’s track-record run of 6.491 at 210.44 and followed it up with a pair of spectacular runs on Saturday. The victory over Enders gave him the overall Mission #2Fast2Tasty Challenge crown by one point over Matt Hartford. Next up is trying to wrap up the regular-season championship and picking up a U.S. Nationals victory on Monday.

“Obviously, the drag race with my old nemesis, they’re certainly knocking on the door again,” Anderson said. “They’re capable of winning again and hopefully that drives me even harder to try and do something special. It turned out right for me at that time. We’ll see what happens on Monday, but after today, I’m pretty damn happy.

“As I said last night, my plan coming in here was to try and have a perfect weekend for the Black family, for Judy and Kent Black. And so far, we’re right on schedule. I’m doing all I can to try and lighten her heart a little bit and give her something to smile at this weekend.”

Glenn is second with a 6.523 at 209.59 and Erica Enders is third after going 6.528 at 211.26.

Richard Gadson got the best of Matt Smith in the final round of the Mission #2Fast2Tasty Challenge in Pro Stock Motorcycle, going an impressive 6.744 at 201.01 on his RevZilla/Motul/Vance & Hines Suzuki.

It’s his second victory in the specialty race and sent the young standout to second in qualifying. Gadson was thrilled with the opportunity to take on Smith after a disappointing loss to him in the Callout in Sonoma.

“This was my first shot at him [Smith] since Sonoma, so I wanted to win that a little bit more than normal. I knew he’d probably do something at the start line. I didn’t know what it was going to be. I didn’t care what he did, so this one that one was all business,” Herrera said.

“It’s always a pleasure to race Matt. I’ve got a lot of respect for him. We have a lot of back-and-forth banter, but he’s not a six-time champ for no reason. You’ve got to kind of savor it because it can go the other way at any moment.”

Gaige Herrera stayed No. 1 with Friday’s run of 6.739 at 200.98, while Brayden Davis is third with a 6.762 at 199.64.

Qualifying continues at 12 p.m. ET on Sunday at the Cornwell Quality Tools NHRA U.S. Nationals at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park.

Corey Heim wins the Truck Series Playoff-Opener at Darlington

Photo by John Knittel for SpeedwayMedia.com

Corey Heim won the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series playoff-opening race, Sober or Slammer 200, at Darlington Raceway. After a restart on Lap 134, He pulled away by 0.766 seconds ahead of fellow playoff driver Daniel Hemric for his first victory at the “Lady in Black.” It marked his 19th career victory and his eighth win of the 2025 season.

With the win, Heim also earned automatic advancement to the Round of 8 in the Playoffs.

“We had that tire going down at the end of stage two. I felt it swing tight quick. Luckily, it wasn’t a blowout, or obviously, we would have been in trouble. We held with it. I felt like the 34 (Layne Riggs) and the 38 (Chandler Smith) were really good all day. I could make a little speed on the wall, but it was such a high-risk play.

“If you screw up – I mean, you saw so many people have those right front issues. If you scrub the wall, you are in bad shape. So proud of these guys. It feels like I’m in a dream. Eight wins is phenomenal. Crazy to look back on, but so much to look forward to. Just really speechless as far as effort. Them, and Toyota and Safelite – it’s been an awesome ride and we are going to keep going.” Heim said.

Hemric finished second, Grant Enfinger third, Ty Majeski fourth, and Trevor Bayne, in his first NASCAR Truck Series race since 2020, rounded out the top-5 finishers.

Majeski spoke about the obstacles they overcame to grab a top-5 finish.

“It happened with about five to go left in the stage, so we obviously came down pit road and did a green flag pit stop and put those tires on. We took the wave around and stayed out on those old tires in stage two. A five-lap deficit is a big deal here, so I was just trying to get what I could get track position-wise,” He also noted that he “had to come back down at the end of stage two and fix some damage, so we lost some more spots.

“We basically restarted 17th in that last stage and got up to 10th, and then the caution came out, and we made up a few spots on the restart. We had a good truck all day, but just nothing to show for it with no track position. I’m proud of the effort today. It could have been disastrous for sure, and glad we recovered as a team. The pit stops were great. Good execution today.” Majeski said.

This was Bayne’s first Truck Series start

“I didn’t know for sure on Saturday that I was going to be in this No. 1 Victory Junction TRICON Toyota,” Bayne said, “but I found out on Sunday for sure. Came to Charlotte on Monday, got fitted in the truck. I have a suit that I think came off the rack from somewhere in Mooresville that they threw some logos on, but to get a top-five – that’s all we can ask for coming back cold turkey.

“We weren’t great to start the weekend either, even to start the race, this thing was a handful – we kept adjusting every stop and making it better and better. If we could have started where we ended, I think we maybe would have been able to stay side-by-side with Corey (Heim) for a lap. I don’t know if I would have lasted much longer than that, but congrats to the 11 guys, Tanner (Gray) with a top-six. I’ll take it.”

The race featured three caution flags for 19 laps, and nine lead changes among four drivers.

After Darlington, Corey Heim leads the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series standings over Layne Riggs by 59 points, 64 over Daniel Hemric, 67 over Grant Enfinger, and 75 points over Tyler Ankrum.

Denny Hamlin on the pole for the Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway

Photo by John Knittel for SpeedwayMedia.com

Denny Hamlin claimed the pole for Sunday’s Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway with a 171.381 mph lap. It’s his second Cup Series pole at Darlington, his second this season, and the 45th of his career.

He was pleased with the progress the team made on his No. 11 Toyota after adjustments following practice.

“We struggled with balance all through race practice, but we made some good adjustments to run one lap.”

His Joe Gibbs Racing teammate, Chase Briscoe, the defending race winner, will start beside Hamlin on the front row.

“That one stings,” Briscoe said. “My 1 and 2 were really good, and I didn’t want to go into (Turn) 3 and hit the wall or something, so I under-drove it.”Playoff drivers Josh Berry, Tyler Reddick, Kyle Larson, Ross Chastain, Christopher Bell, Bubba Wallace, Austin Dillon, William Byron, Ryan Blaney and Austin Cindric completed the top-12 fastest drivers of the qualifying session.

The remaining four playoff drivers qualified outside the top 12. Joey Logano will start 14th, followed by Shane van Gisbergen (20th), Chase Elliott (21st) and Alex Bowman (29th).

Titus Sherlock Gets Back-To-Back Wins at CTMP

BOWMANVILLE, Ontario, Canada (August 30, 2025) – For the second time this weekend, Titus Sherlock won in Formula Regional Americas Championship presented by Mosport Karting Centre (FR Americas) competition at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP). Marking his sixth win of the 2025 season, and 10th of his career, Sherlock (No. 31 Rayne Nutrition / Ronald McDonald House Charities / Crosslink Motorsports Ligier JS F3) overtook the lead on the opening lap and never looked back.

Nicolas Ambiado (No. 55 Velox USA / Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F3) led the field down the starting grid after setting the fastest lap in yesterday’s race, with Sherlock to his outside. A stalled car during the formation lap led to an aborted standing start, and instead required the field to roll side by side to a waving green flag to start the race. With pole position on the outside, second-place starter Sherlock had the preferred line as the field raced toward Turn 1. With Sherlock moving to the lead, Ambiado settled into second, with Jett Bowling (No. 22 Bullhorn / Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F3) following in third. A rare mistake by Ambiado resulted in him dropping a wheel off the racing surface, which gave Bowling the opportunity to overtake second, and also allowed Connor Roberts (No. 46 Apexspeed.com / Entropy Cellars / Atlantic Racing Team with Team Roberts Ligier JS F3) to drive by. The trio endured a late-race restart, but still crossed the finish line in the same order—Sherlock, followed by Bowling and Roberts.

Notes of Interest:

  • With today’s victory, Titus Sherlock scored his sixth win of the 2025, and 10th of his career.
  • Jett Bowling earned his eighth podium of the season with his runner-up finish in Race 2.
  • Connor Roberts earned his second podium of the weekend, and third of 2025, with a third-place result.
  • Three teams were represented on the podium, with Crosslink Motorsports winning the race, Kiwi Motorsport finishing second and Atlantic Racing Team with Team Roberts finishing third.

“It was a good race,” said Sherlock after climbing from the car. “We got the lead on the first lap with a close move with Nicolas [Ambiado], and then just had the pace. We were really fast, so we just had to manage that one restart, but other than that, the car was really good. I’m really thankful for all the guys at Crosslink Motorsports for giving me such a good car.”

FR Americas is back on track tomorrow for their third and final race from CTMP. The lights go out at 11:40 a.m. ET, and the race will be streamed live on SpeedTour.TV. Live timing and scoring available on the Race Monitor app. Additional news and updates from the weekend will be posted on the series’ Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Darlington Raceway NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series Race Report
Sober or Slammer 200
Date: Saturday, August 30, 2025
Event: Race 19 of 25
Series: NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series
Location: Darlington Raceway (1.3-miles)
Length of Race: 147 laps over one hour, 39 minutes, nine seconds

FRM Finish:

Layne Riggs (Started 1st, Finished 17th / Running, completed 147 of 147 laps)
Chandler Smith (Started 2nd, Finished 30th / DNF-Accident, completed 14 of 147 laps)

FRM Points Standings:

Layne Riggs (2nd)
Chandler Smith (9th)

Layne Riggs Key Takeaways

Stage One: 2nd / Stage Two: 1st / Race Result: 17th

“I’m just disappointed in myself with the way I didn’t really manage the race good enough,” said Riggs. “I thought we had a great No. 34 Clew F-150 all day. I felt like I was out of control in the first stage, and we still finished second. I think we had a really good piece. We were leading and I ran the bottom in three and four a lot, and then it was time to move back to the top and I just didn’t anticipate the lack of grip that I had after running on the bottom for five, six, seven laps in a row. I drove it in just like I did five laps earlier and it just wasn’t enough. I just hate it for my team. They deserve a lot better. They deserved a trophy today in all honesty. These days will make us stronger. I feel like we’re still in a really great spot heading into these next few races. I’m just so happy with the speed that we have every weekend. I’ve just got to do better at a track like this that can come up and bite you so fast.”

Chandler Smith Key Takeaways

Stage One: 30th / Stage Two: 30th / Race Result: 30th

“Honestly, I’m not too worried about it. I’m not sure where the points are going to rack up after this race, but going back to Bristol, we were really strong there earlier this year,” said Smith. “Then New Hampshire as well, so I’m not really worried about the point situation. I’m just a little disappointed in myself. I had a really fast Ford F-150 today and just barely got the wall and then throttled up and got out of it, and then my right-front tire kind of got stuck and got stuck right back in it and suckered me in. We run steel bodies, so you can’t really run the fence like you can in a Xfinity car or a Cup car without killing your day like that.” HOW DO YOU PROCESS THIS ONE? “It stings, but right now it looks like we’re plus-one, but we’ve still got two races left going back to Bristol, where we won earlier this year and then New Hampshire for the last race of this round, where I’ve been really strong in the past as well. I’m not really discouraged or anything about that. I think our pace in our trucks and our trucks here recently have been really good. Everybody at Front Row Motorsports has been giving be a truck capable of going out there and winning, but I just made a mistake on my end today. I just got a little too greedy trying to run the fence a little bit too hard.”

O’Ward Closes In on Elusive Goal after Winning Nashville Pole

LEBANON, Tenn. (Saturday, Aug. 30, 2025) – With second place secured in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES standings this season, Pato O’Ward has a new goal Sunday in the season-ending Borchetta Bourbon Music City Grand Prix presented by WillScot.

“I’ve never won a race from pole,” O’Ward said. “That’s on my to-do list this weekend.”

The Mexican is off to a great start on that quest after winning the NTT P1 Award on Saturday with a two-lap average speed of 202.621 mph in the No. 5 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet. It is his second pole this season, joining his top spot in March at The Thermal Club. This is O’Ward’s seventh career pole but first on an oval.

O’Ward has nine career victories, including two this season, but they have come from someplace besides the No. 1 starting spot. O’Ward, who led practice this morning, won from the second starting position in 2022 at Barber Motorsports Park and in 2024 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

“The car was great,” O’Ward said. “Felt really comfortable in practice and didn’t give me any scares or anything. I was happy with that. Very good.”

David Malukas qualified second at 201.922 in the No. 4 Clarience Technologies Chevrolet fielded by A.J. Foyt Enterprises as he fell just short of his first career pole for the second straight week. Malukas was the 17th of 27 drivers to qualify, and he held the provisional pole until O’Ward made his run as the second-to-last driver in line.

Last weekend at the Milwaukee Mile oval, Malukas was on pole until four-time series champion Alex Palou snatched it from him on the last qualifying attempt of the event.

O’Ward’s teammate Christian Lundgaard qualified third at 201.713 in the No. 7 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet. It was his career-best oval qualifying effort, topping his eighth-place grid spot from the 109th Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge in May.

Reigning series champion Palou qualified fourth at 201.603 in the No. 10 DHL Chip Ganassi Racing Honda, falling short as the last qualifier and the only driver who could topple O’Ward from the top spot.

Six-time series champion Scott Dixon ended up fifth at 201.437 in the No. 9 PNC Bank Chip Ganassi Racing Honda. Dixon won three consecutive races on this 1.33-mile concrete oval from 2006-08.

Two-time series champion and Nashville native Josef Newgarden will join Dixon on the third row of the starting grid Sunday after qualifying sixth at 201.390 in the No. 2 Astemo Team Penske Chevrolet.

Coverage of the 225-lap race starts at 2 p.m. ET Sunday (FOX, FOX Deportes, FOX One, FOX Sports app, INDYCAR Radio Network).
